I have tried searching on this and looked through my FSM, but it does not give the information I was looking for. I am trying to figure out how to install a new clutch and flywheel in my car. The main thing that I am trying to figure out though is how does the flywheel come off? Is it bolted in there? If so, is it 1 bolt or multiple bolts? When installing a new flywheel if it is being held on by bolt(s), is there a recommended torque to set it to? How about a recommended procedure for installing the new flywheel?

Basically I am trying to find out EXACTLY how to remove the old clutch/flywheel and install the new clutch/flywheel. My buddy has done this on his RX-7 and he said it is not that difficult, but I am trying to figure out if I really want to do this or just take it to a shop. BTW, does anybody know of any shops that will install Performance Clutchs and Flywheels WITH a guarantee of there work (i.e. if it does chatter, I can take it back and they will fix it for me)? OR do you have any shops in the S.F. BAY AREA that you recommend to do this kind of installation? What kind of pricing should I be looking at for installation of these?

6 bolts...unbolting and rebolting are a pain, because the flywheel wants to turn. Torque specs are in the FSM, in one of the expanded diagrams.

No one will guarantee that a performance clutch won't chatter, that's what they do.

Its actually very easy, I did it myself on jackstands in my garage.
Remove the center console and shift boot and shift knob, and remove the C clip that holds the shifter in.
Remove the electrical connections below the car, remove the crossmember (2 bolts), stick a big screwdriver or something in the driveshaft to keep it from turning and unbolt it from the rear differential. Pull it out of the tranny, the fluid will drain out.
Support the engine block and transmission with jacks.
lower the back of the engine to allow for clearance, un bolt all the bolts around the tranmission, go into the engine bay and un bolt the starter, use a real big prybar and a friend to get the tranmission off the back of the engine. then just undo the bolts (there are several) and take the clutch off. They say you have to press the throwout bearing in but I just used a socket the same size as the bearing shaft and we tapped it in place with a mallet. Grease it all up after you change parts, and install it back in the reverse order. Replace the slave cylinder too, and bleed the clutch. Fill the transmission back up, and you are good to go.
