I know a couple of guys on here have Cressidas.
Does anyone know what parts are interchangeable or where I can get some shit for cheap for it?
I'm in Norcal btw.
Post up your Cressidas! :wavey:

This isnt going to help one bit. But i wish cressidas didnt have such ugly seats!
Damn living up north and not being able to find a rust free one locally.

did you just get a cressida?
enjuku racing has a cressida section and offers parts.
did some research about them a while back when i was thinking of getting one in some cressida forums. i think people were trying to adapt z32 brakes on those cars and 5lug has to be custom drilled/weld studs in.

cressidas have been super bandwagon lately since old toyotas have became cool lol
still pretty ugly and cheap imo but thats why people like em
but they got potential .. like 5 spd swaps, coilovers etc

My seats look nice man... what kinda Cressy are you talking about? 73 or 83?

Yeah 5 lug shit is up and ready. They got conversion brackets and shit.
I don't have to worry about converting to 5 lug. ;)
5 speed is another story, I'm not sure I really wanna start on working on cars again.

Naw Cressida scene is just getting bigger, just like the 240SX scene. I liked them like 3 years ago, but I couldn't get myself to buy another shitty car. I kinda just walked into this one.
The more people that become enthusiasts with the car the larger the market gets and more development of shit.

I did indeed get one.
I got it for cheaps.
I think I'm gonna take my coilovers off my S13 and do the coilover mod.
I'm just gonna keep parting the S13 til its just sold for hella cheap.
Anyone want some Kouki tails or a CF hood with Aerocatch hood pins?

There were something like 40 cars. There were probably like 20 Subies, 10 Evos, 2 S2000s, the Cress and a couple other random Audis and whatnot.

I wouldn't say the shit is READILY available because there are companies making NEW parts for S13.
But a lot of Toyota parts are interchangeable.
If you need a cool car, that can be lowered, put some wheels and an LSD in, than yes, Cressida has some parts you can get pretty easily.

Cressidas are dope and ive always found them to be unique. sadly it is slowly turning into a trend. I never had a reason to build one until i crashed my corolla a couple of years ago. It takes some research and a lot of dedication to build these cars and stick with it. Its definitely something different and you get a crap load of attention. I know whenever i go cruising the bay i get looks everywhere i go. I get loads of compliments on my "sick ass camry."lol. my main goal for building a cressida was to be able to fit all 4 of my sisters and still look mad Gangsta at the same time. I wanted a luxury car, but obviously couldnt afford a lexus or infinity. and the cressida has a shit load of features that modern day cars have. I also have mad love for old schol. I got everything i want in one car. The cressida forum is cool for tech info, but other than that its pretty dead.lol
Falkon240 - I believe you and Gio have been talking back and forth about trading cars ? his x8 for your s13? i know he reposted that shit on craigs now, since he just got a s13. hit me up if you need some info. all the work we did on his x8 took place at my house. fun times..

dude i definitely feel you on that. i got lucky with my x7 n found a factory 5 speed chassis. used it as a parts car and converted another auto chassis into 5 speed(long story). i would definitely say his car pretty much knocks everything out of the way, but the motor might not be in the best condition. the 240 he got is pretty much a paper weight for the time being.lol.

I just picked up an '85 factory 5spd MX73 today, w00t! Super nice shell, some paint oxidization but otherwise 100% mint. A wetsand/polish should make it look good as new.
Might need a clutch in the near future, leaks some oil, CEL, but runs/idles peachy. Exhaust leak, AC needs recharged, but still factory 5spd MX73!!
*MIGHT* be for sale for anyone near DC, for the right offer, but unless I get a really compelling offer I'll sell my Miata and keep this thing. 80's dope.

hey hang onto that x7 5sp. ive got a 3" exhaust for you. i had it on my x7 for like 2 weeks before i threw 2 rods out the side of the block. its got a megan canister on it...if i were to put it on a car id ditch the canister, add a perforated core silencer, a 3" to 2x2" Y, and run it super tight to the body all the way out. its been hangin out in my garage since like 2004. very light sparatic surface rust at most. im in philly pa suburbs. ill let it go for cheap too.

The 5 speed swap my friend is gonna do for me and weld the diff and do some other trick shit to it while he's doing the swap, that's why I'm waiting to do it, plus I don't have all the necessary parts to do it all.

Well, if I sell it, it'll most likely go to a close friend, and he'd probably want your exhaust since the exhaust on the car is jacked up, and MX73 exhausts probably aren't easy to find.
Anyway, here are some pics of the car I picked up. Aside from oxidized paint, it's in REMARKABLE aesthetic condition. Pics were taken at seller's apartment building. Car is now safely home in my garage.

Eh, 5MGE > KA24DE
The 5MGE sounds so great naturally aspirated with decent pipes. Probably more parts out there for the KA, but if you're going to boost in a Cressy, you're probably more likely to just go 7MGTE or 1JZ anyway.

I looked into getting a Cressida daily a couple years ago.
Even with the 91/92, its still alot of money to drop a 2J in. the Cressida forum talks about how easy it is, but its not so simple.
And sourcing parts for older/better looking cressidas is a pain in the but.
i would hate to have to "MOD" every fucking performance part.

Eh, 7MGTE goes into a 73 or 83 easily enough, and you can make a lot of power with a 7MGTE.
Getting suspension for an MX73 can be interesting, but the following has gotten big enough that it's a lot easier than it was a couple years ago.

Eh, 7MGTE goes into a 73 or 83 easily enough, and you can make a lot of power with a 7MGTE.
Getting suspension for an MX73 can be interesting, but the following has gotten big enough that it's a lot easier than it was a couple years ago.
But dont the head gaskets go after about 60K plus. Or you need to tighten them down again??
Thats always why i figured i would just engine swap right away, with a rebuild, and be done.
wow on auto trader the are a couple going for 3-5k it's ridiculous ...
yeah, usually i see them for 1500 and under here in LA.
ALOT of head gasket issues.
Some really clean ones pop up once in awhile.

AFAIK the reason 7MGTE head gaskets go is because the bolts are under-tightened from the factory, which seems like it'd be easy enough to fix. A lot of people get metal HG's also.
I know a couple people that are running considerable boost on 7MGTEs and they haven't had any HG problems, they just tightened to 75ft/lb.
I'm far from an expert on 7Ms though.

You're right.
The 7m was just undertorqued from the factory.
Tighten up the head and you're golden.

This thread hits a big sensitive spot. After going through so much crap w/ my s13 i wanted an mx83 for a nice simple daily. So i found myself a MINT 91 cressida, original owner, 88k miles ! Had a bhg and the old suffolk county cop wanted $700...i trailored it home, $100 later on a hg and i had myself a mint cressida, for a week, until the worst motor on earth, the 7m developed rod knock. So i got myself a 2j and attempted to swap it in, got my mx90 mounts, aristo oil pan and threw it in, motor was in, all was well, and i was stuck on wiring. Did the best i could, got the car to crank but wouldnt start and through everything and anything i tried my best but godamnit it wouldnt start. Got pissed and sold that car for 1200 bux to this cressida whizz and he got it started and is now selling it for 2500. W/e, here's some pix

http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/1927/029ych.jpg (http://img14.imageshack.us/my.php?image=029ych.jpg)
Was a great car to drive for the week that it drove, really comfy, not that horrible on gas, and just felt like a new stock car that was practical which i could trust taking a road trip in. But it was much harder to work on that car in comparison to my s13, made me appretiate my s13 alot more. But i do hope to get another one someday as a daily. Hope i dont fail that time around

the wheels are currently at 18x 9.5 +15 in front
and 18x9.5 +12 in the back
both have stretched 215/40R18
still gotta add more camber the rear to get the procise fitment.

I did some stuff to the car today, and noticed that one of the endlinks completely lost a nut holding it to the car! Not good, thankfully I had my trusty box of S13 bolts to solve that problem and I tightened it right up.
I lowered the rear, noticed that I didn't have any spanner wrenches, thank fully I had a long flat head screwdriver and my favorite tool "one-hand sledge hammer"
Added some 8 or 10mm spacers in the front to get rid of that sunken look.
I also removed the shitty broken ass mudguards and I think it makes the car look way better and make the wheel fitment more aggressive.

Oh yeah, them hating the S chassis is a blatant immaturity of the forum.
The S chassis is popular because it was fairly cheap, easy to mod, with an extensive aftermarket.
Them hating it is like us hating cavemen, they helped us become what we are now.

agreed, i would rather roll on those stockers. that x8 is hella clean as it is; inside and out. why ruin the looks by slapping on wheels that dont fit yet? what are the offsets on those wheels? depending on the tire size you run plan to run you're going to need more than an insane fender roll/pull. you can only pull so much, until it starts to looks like shit. cant wait to see it bagged though.

Someone say my name? hahahaha. so Scott, i have an idea. ditch the idea of getting a lip and get SerialNine Aero. if only i could source a kit for my chassis( at an affordable price) i would've been rockin that shit.
if i ever see a x8 with s9 aero ( hopefully its yours) in Norcal i will shit myself. lol. If Gio still had his shit it would've rockin that kit already. booooo.

You're in Canada, you should be able to find a 1J pretty easily.
Contact G, at Serialnine.com. He can point you the right way for swaps, coils, and any other custom stuff you might need. He's built up a pretty sick x7.

You have to cut off the lower brackets to the spindle, and weld the bottom of tube to the steering arm of the Cressida.
If you know anyone with an 86, its that style front suspension.
For the rear, you have to get a smaller insert and put it into the rubber mount on the bottom, and I believe drill new holes for the top mount.
I didn't do my coil install so I can't really give you any details.

my bad .. 5 lugs - 5x114.3 to be exact. I thought all cressida were 5lugs. One pair has no tires one pair have 22in drag slicks. I ran these on my 240sx and rx7. always hit a 1.6 0-60 so they still good for a few more runs.

alot more to do later, body/ paint, full sexy style copy aero and more.
then...

Don't waste your time with a 1.5J. It has been proven that they 1J head doesn't flow better than than a 2J. Just swap in a 2J if you are considering a swap (or a 1J).

My bro got a mx73 and has a 7mgte. He spent a good amount of money trying to get it to run still in the process but almost done. Defiantly go 1J or 2J to save you the trouble of the dreadful 7m. Also as previous discussed the aftermarket for the x73 is very slim and x83 almost the same. But he uses driftmotion.com they have there own set of parts for cressidas like serial nine. And also try socalautohub a new fourm but a lot of supra/ cressy guys.
kalypso123
02-14-2011, 12:19 AM
BUT I have met a guy with a 9 second 7m
so I think its more about the engine builder then the engine.
if I was committed to getting a Cressida I would go all the way with a 2jzgte,
and also the 2jzge-t (na-t) is a good motor combo also.
Here's a parts list I saved for a great NA-T 2j build... much smarter cost wise if your staying under 400hp.
Na-t
NEW TT HG $120
New Turbo $700
NEW Manifold $150
WG $300
BOV $100
BINBOil feed and return $100
BINBFMIC with piping $300
BNIB ARP head studs if you choose to $120
Aristo ECU $150
Injetcors $150 RX7 550cc
Map sensor and AIT sensor $130
3" DP $80 brand new
IS300 Ignitor $50
Coils $100
AEM WB $150 used
MBC $50
SAFC if you don't wanna run stock Aristo boost $150
So for $3k i can have 100% reliable na-t setup without going EMS and it will make more power than your stock gte at this point all i need is a trans.
I can delete the distributor and not worry about my Turbo not clearing the cap.
I can do EMS for extra $1100 - aristo ECu -map and AIT sensor.

Damn I don't understand why so many cressida threads get created on this forum. Seeing as the majority of the people on here hate them. If you want to talk sedans you should go on a forum dedicated to them.
X chassis is definitely the next bandwagon for S chassis guys. its funny seeing so many people hop the bandwagon and give up. Since there aren't a shit ton of off the shelf parts for them.
just do your research and build it right.
not sure if you're on jzxproject. but they hate s chassis' as much as the people on here hate Cressidas.

I got a question that'll probably be flamed on,
but what is so good about these cars?
is it because of the RWD feature on the car?
ericcastro

yeah, its the RWD and the cheap factor.
Then, some people, like myself, prefer more of a boxy square look and I also like 4 doors.
Prolly cause I owned a lot of these,

I was thinking the same thing, the "Zilvia Toyota Cressida Thread" is a bit rediculous. If you want a Cressida, go on a Toyota forum, if all you want is zilvias approval for you to get an 80's sedan I think its a bit stupid. Let me go start an EVO thread so I can get your approval before I buy it guys:cj:
I understand this is off-topic and whatever goes for the most part, but if you aren't looking for/don't currently own an s-z-r chassis then why come on here? I find it pointless that people go to a car specific forum like zilvia, then ask what bmw they should get.

also the drifting is built in

well for fanboy bandwagon kids who don't truly appreciate old school rides, they just see it as a cheap drift platform. then they eventually find out the hard way its not easy to build one.
What appeals to me, is that its an Old School Luxury car. which to me is the perfect combination, and makes for a dope car to cruise in. I've been into these sedans for 6+ years and still haven't tried to slide any of them. although my friends feel differently. haha.
Yes I'm getting new wheels. Just waiting for them to get their new shipment :)

I love those, and fwd isn't bad once you get use to it. The only thing I don't get is how this car keeps getting generalized as cheap. I know most people on here are from cali or florida, but come to the northeast, you won't find one of these regardless of asking price. I would love to build one, but the pure ease of parts, knowledge, and sexiness of an s14 just makes that a more affordable, easier, just as rewarding build.

Its almost not worth it for most of the states to talk about pricing in your threads and vice versa.

People need to stop hating on the Cressida and get off that 240 bandwagon. It's the next civic IMO I have a x7 and I love that car. Don't get me wrong my S13 is cool but I like my x7 way more. The majority of the fan bois bail on this car considering they have no skills to build one and want to be able to buy shit off the shelf. Then you have the Cressida with almost no aftermarket support and scavenge and research the parts to build it.
OP IMO The Cressida is amazing car with lots of potential if you got the skill to build one. Good luck on choosing YOUR next project.
Here's mine... I have Watanabes on it now BTW...

Yes, because we all want ugly ass 80's sedans. How is the Cressida not a bandwagon car? Until all you drift fanboi's found out it was rwd none of you would've even considered owning one. Custom fab pshhh the reason you have to make everything for it is because noone thought it was worth investing money into the stupid thing. Well here is my take on cresidas. #1 ,the chassis is dirt cheap/sometimes free!!. Wich makes it disposable
#2- 1J/2J is just about a bolt in deal if you know what your doing using OEM Yota parts
#3- The old school factor combined with the stretched & flush look is well, you knooooww.
So in a nut shell if you got some wrenching skills you can have a daily driver with a modest 400-500HP, full intirior, AC,and not look like your typical rice rocket/a lil less popo action. .

It's funny once you post something about a Cressida on Zilvia everyone goes ape shit over it. I never said the S Chassis is a shitty car. I just prefer my Cress, I still drive my 13 though but handling wise my x7 has it beat already. It's like anything really when it comes to cars you build whatever the hell you want to build, some people will like it and some wont. I honestly like boxy looking cars I've owned cars from the 70s and 80s so I'm just stuck on that time frame all these new cars all look the same.
