Are you trying to do this yourself? DO you have a compressor and an hvlp gun?

What kind of paint are your pillars and roof?
I hope its not rattlecan.
You are going to need to prep the roof for paint.
Sand it down with 600grit.
make sure you get out any irregularities
[such as clearcoat flaking off]
You can take it a step further and wetsand with 700 or 800 grit.
wash it with dish washing detergent.
dry with something clean and lint-free.
prep the surface with surface prep.
[just go to a paint shop and buy a can]
theres other things you can use to prep it but thats easier.
spray with hlvp spray gun, gravity feed if you can get one.
done.
take a picture of your car and what you want to get painted.

i dont understand why you would do your roof unless it is a different color. what color is your car and what color is the roof?

heres the deal the car was just painted oem nissan purple ..i really like flakes in paint , but i think that the whole car is a little too much and i will be trying too get a super-made kit in the coming months...reason why i want too do it is because my painter is just too busy too do this and hook my up with a good price ..plus he needs the whole car too do it ..when i get the kit all i have too do is drop it off and wait ..i have the compresser and the gun ..the flake that i seen is from this web site ...paintwithpearl.com it is the purple flakes ..the whole car is the same color..i just want too prep the clear on the roof and go right over that and the pillars ..what is the name of a goood clear ..too ask for when i go too the paint shop ...and after i do this is there and wet sanding too do and with what grit..thanks alot

I would put the flakes in some clear base coat , then clear it . If you put flake in clear coat some times the flakes don't lay down flat and if ones close to the surface and you wet sand , then buff it wont polish back out correctly.
So get a quart of clear base coat mix flakes in it , spray it, wait for the recomended flash time , then clear coat it that way you build material on top of the flakes.
I'm a painter by trade 10+ years.
you cant go wrong with dupont, PPG , sikens, Diamont, Standox is my favorite by far!

So what are you going to do about the hard line that will show up on the C pillar?

I second that hard line question, what are u going to do about that? U would have to end up clearing the whole back half minus trunk lid and rear bumper. I seen people try to blend old clear with new and thats even hard for experienced dudes. Tried it a few times myself didnt like the results. Just do the whole back half over wet sand and buff, done. As far as clears go there are alot of different ones out there like the one guy posted earlier. If your strap for cash ppg and dupont make some lower line stuff that lays down nice and wont hit u over the head with price.
