Import Tuna doing a serious tech article? Bestill my black heart!
Oh never mind, they riced it out before the end of the article, hahaha... nice kombat kit
Anyway a whole lot of that grip number is due to the tires. Toyo Proxes RA-1s are R-compound race tires. A bone stock Dodge Neon ACR on those tires will pull 1.01g.
The suspension work helped, though, and that's also what made it a more balanced car, yadda yadda.

yea, it would have been nice if they ran the tests with just tires, then tested again with all other work done to see where most of the improvement came from... and im with ya on the kombat kit  but hey, before that pic it was straight up, non-rice upgrades :)

yah I havnt bought an Import Tuner mag since... well... a long time... but yah if it is just the RA's(and those dodge numbers are factual) they spent a lot of money on other stuff =\ (JIC magic STB's, Coil-overs, and other goodies) it doesnt seem worth the price to me...

what does an s13 fastback pull on the skidpad? i know the s14 pulls 0.86 but i think i read it in MotorTrend that the s13 can pull a 0.88g . can someone quote me on this one?
0.88g is what I read before.

It's worth it in a car that transitions better and such. Tires make a lot of difference in ultimate grip.. if not the most difference when you consider that most cars these days have very low CG's and generally good suspension geometry.
My source for the Neon's number was a Car & Driver autocross test between the Mustang Cobra, Saturn SC2, Miata, and Neon, back in '97.

well if a AVCR is accurate at all, then a well tuned 240 can easily pull 1.06g with crappy tires on it cause I managed to do it in my brothers a few times.

Momentarily, yes. You weren't running a standard-size concrete skidpad, though, which is where the magazines get their numbers. They run the car in a circle faster and faster until the car breaks loose, measuring the maximum steady state cornering force.
Ever seen the Top Gear video with Jeremy Clarkson driving the R34 GT-R? He gets the GT-R's stock accelerometer to fly WAY off the scale in lateral G's.
