any pics?

imma say this, with the popularity of s13s now, esp with some mods like yours, its gotta be tough to daily em, mine was pretty built up simular and i traded it because of said reasons.

you will feel "homesick" for a lil bit, but will be too busy enjoying your new car... But if your friends/peers are all 240s, you will feel somewhat left out lol

Most friends are honda heads so yeah i wont be able to clown on them but im looking to head in a different direction based on not being to afford the hobby in these times. I dont have pics but the body is super clean one fender had to be bondo'd up but no serious damage.... much much cleaner than most cosmetically.

gc8 2.5RS's are nice fun dailies, but over-priced imo.
a model with 80k mi usually runs in the $10k range.
It's essentially more or less the same price as an early model GD8 wrx.
comparable base trim imprezas are like $3-5k.
If you plan to swap out a bunch of parts, not much reason to choose the RS over a cheaper trim.
If you plan to keep the car stock, I think there are a lot better cars for cheaper, unless you absolutely have to have an older awd car.

If I were you, Id just sell the S13, put a dp on a new wrx, and call it a day.

Yeah, you're going to be going from a pretty quick turbo car to n/a.

Agreed, get a WRX.

Well the thing is that im trying to avoid putting money into a car other than maintenance from now on, i just want a nice reliable daily driver and that style impreza has always tickled my fancy.

Keep your car and buy some sort of four cylinder Toyota. They last forever.

i think you should keep the 240. the subaru is nice but you'd be starting from square 1 with mods where as the 240 is ready to go

I love the GC8's!!! I would look for a 2000-2001. IIRC that is the year that they had the new interior and exterior.

When I sold my Jeep and DD 240sx, I did so to buy a CG8 2.5rs. Around here clean ones sell for 7500+. After my buddy let me drive his stage 2 WRX and multiple times riding with him at auto-x/road race events I just knew I would not be happy with a 2.5rs when a WRX was around 1k more. I bought my WRX and have not looked back since. It is almost as fun as my 240 to drive.

they are very nice cars and good for his purpose, but so is the coupe. just have to not modify it till you get some loot. the pwr diff will def leave you bored for lack of better word. i traded my sr hatch for a b5 a4 and regretted it so much. def helped in the snow though lol

Don't get deceived by the youth of the 2.5 RS, the interior will still feel as cheap as your 9-year-older 13. The only thing that might make it feel nicer is that it'll probably be cleaner than your car right now (maybe).

And it's gonna cost a ton of cashola to make the 2.5 RS go anywhere near as quick as your 13 can go right now.

If you're really over your 13, going with a WRX would make a lot more sense financially if you care about driving a nicer and faster car.

I was contemplating the same a few years, but with a usdm wrx swap (to hopefully pass smog).
I just don't see the merit of spending so much $ to buy a 2.5RS, if you're only going to use it as a shell.
The premium you spend on a RS over a base model impreza, would probably give you enough extra to spend on at least a WRX swap.

I'd love to own a GC8 wagon w/ a wrx swap, if I had the $ and patience.
If looks are important, you can always swap over 2.5rs, and/or jdm wrx exterior parts.

With a STi swap, I'm not so sure how compatible the whole dccd diff's would work out on a gc8 chassis.
Also, if you're willing to spend that much, might as well just go pick up a used STi.

Nope just when you do the swap you need all the Driveline parts(shaft, axles, rear diff)

I've seen so many of them done...

quite pricey but well worth it..

i have a 98 2.5rs. Best car buying decision I have ever made.

It handles really well and power is fine for just driving around. Adding decent power is expensive. Legal swaps can get really pricey. The only downside as a daily is the short gearing imo, and that is not that big of deal. Good luck finding one in decent condition and price. :2f2f: Just be sure and do your research first!

Word, I DD a Black 2 dr 99 gc8 and cant stand driving it. The cons- They feel small, boring to drive, slow. The Pro's- Girls like it, and its an absolute beast in the snow.

I would MUCH rather be in my S13 if it werent for the snow.

Seriously make sure you dont want a Light, Quick, FR chassis. Because the impreza is definatly nothing like it what-so-ever.

they are excellent cars handle well, very reliable, and pretty rare

id say go for it

edit: but if your going to make it a track project I'd say get a type L or Brighton

they are a lot lighter because the eliminate all the electronic luxuries

Cause Imprezas are pieces of shit. I can catch RA and Type R GC8s in the turns in my stock B16 EG6. Only reason they pull away from me in the straights is because they have more power.

Dude i wouldnt say that the ej25 is that reliable....Headgasket problems, timing belt issues. Go on rs25.com and Fully research one before making your purchase. If i could go back in time i would have bought something different. Any rs above 100k is scary.

I guess I got lucky. Bought mine at 89k...it now has 118k. AND i have a DOHC which are supposedly the worst. :wiggle:

Those engines are really not all that hard to work on. Thay may not be as reliable as most Nissans or Hondas but they are still great cars if the maintenence is kept up. They resolved the headgasket issue in 2004 iirc. Timing belts are a cake to and so are the axles.

Known problems as far as I know
- the passengerside inner cv leaks due to the cat being right next to it
- wheel bearings go out at about 130k (a bitch to do if there's a lot of rust)
- valve covers tend to leak
- bad oxygen and knock sensors
- cats go out roughly at 130k or more
- headgaskets leak on 2004 and older(don't quote me on this)
- exhaust leaks at manifold to head

That's about it from what I've seen at work...

I would never trade my S14 for any AWD car. :D

awd > fr

i actually really like the way the rs looks and the back seats are actually functional unlike in my s14. Plus Garage Tuning (http://www.garagetuning.com/) will swap in a SMOG LEGAL 2.0 liter wrx motor for about 5k that will mate to mate to the GC's tranny (which by the way has a gear ratio that is very close to what the JDM tranny had) The usdm tranny for the early year wrx's were pure trash.

2800lbs + awd = my broken dreams

http://img380.imageshack.us/img380/672/gc8ix4.th.jpg (http://img380.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gc8ix4.jpg)

350whp out of a 2005 STI Engine
RA STI Gears
20G turbo
etc.

Love it. No problems whatsoever.

I still love my 330rwhp s13 more, but the GC8 RSTI is my daily and I would take it over an evo or newer sti anyday.

If you want something reliable, get a Honda. My Accord had 307,000 on the odometer. They're over-engineered and last for forever.

And I woudn't trade a 240 for a Subie. At all.

MissShiftS13

But if i buy a honda the issue is it being stolen just because its a honda and i dunno what dumbass probably abused the motor thinking its a race car stock. Plus then i have all the high school kids in their EF's revving me at every light. Which i get anyways because they swear their "single slams" are fast, lol.
