Difference between manual and auto driveshaft

i dont know the difference between a manual or a auto driveshaft although i've heard one is short than the other. i bought a driveshaft off the forums and when i installed it i had to pull it a inch or more out of the tranny to get it to match up with the diff. is that normal?

Spline depth and size is different, if it fits into the transmission it's correct. There's no way for an auto driveshaft to fit into a manual transmission and vice versa.

Hey Russ I hate to second guess you but are you sure. I think I was running an auto driveshaft for a minute. I had more than half my yoke hanging out. I ended up replacing it a little while later with a one piece, 5 speed intended, shaft; which was about 2" longer. If the splines are different what would that shaft have been?
