Hi, So i am having a hard time narrowing down what is causing my car to overheat. I just installed a new alum. rad this weekend with two electric fans and a new thermostat. I figured it was the thermostat not opening but boiled some water and it opened just fine. Then I assumed it might be the waterpump(s14/s15) and took it off, but it wasn't leaking, no shaft play and spun fine. also when it was overheating today I felt both hoses for temp difference and the short side coming from the block to rad was hot while the long one from the rad back to the block was almost cold. So im thinkingt its not the rad, just the flow of water in the block. Any Ideas???

no heater core - heater hoses are looped from one to the other.

did you bleed all the air out?

ok this is my suggestion: bleed the 10mm bolt, then jack the front end of the car with the cap off watch for bubbles, start the car with out the cap make suere there is no bubles wait for the thermostat to open with cap off and contibue to add coolant as needed. then presto you should be good to go

those air fans suck compare to stock clutch fans...

When I installed my grifin aluminum radiator i had an overheating problem but it was because of the timing hahahaha... craaaazy, it's because I was messing with the timing chain and all that jazz (removing top and side chain guides). Once timing was tuned, no more overheating... coulda popped and been gone :(

im pretty sure my timing in on cause the car runs great until it overheats and I havent messed with tmy timing ever, it been where its at now from the date it was tuned. im going out right now to try and jack it up to get the bubbles out.
Thanks all, let you know how it goes.

Just got done getting all the bubbles out and still overheating. I checked the thermo again and it was open. Also can see water moving in the rad so pump is workings. I just took thermo out to keep it cool until I figure out the problem. Maybe coolant temp sensor???

Is it an S13 engine in an S14 chassis? I've heard the sensors are different. Can anyone confirm this?

It's an s13 sr in a s13 but yeah mine is the red one so it's the right one. I think s14 sr is blue.

Did you get a good amount of air out of your system by the parking on a hill method? I need to try this with my car tonight... it's having similar issues.

Beaverton/Portland and yeah I used a jack until my exhaust hit the ground and left the cap off. Got a good amount of bubbles from the bleeder bolt them a couple from the thermo opening. I wonder if I should take it to rad shop and have them try.

maybe your sensor is bad....

your fans are on full blast right?

unplug ur sensor to see if it goes to full cold then plug it back it and see if it raises.

just run no thermostat. haha u dont have a heater core ne ways. just takes longer to warm up.

I don't think it will warn up without a thermo anyways. Yeah the fans are good its not the rad or fans those are cold, the engines just not getting that cool water for some reason. I'll try the sensor tho.

The rad shop wanted to charge me 150 to reverse flush it with air and water so I'm going to make an end I can hook up to my hose and compressor and try thatz.
