is it out yet or is it still beta... if I can walk into a store and buy it then i'm down, if it's still beta i'm not fucking with it. My computer is 3 years old now, and granted it can shit on all of the new video games coming out.

I don't think it's ready for windows 7, plus i'm not sure any of my "ted nugent" software is compatible with it, so id rather not.

im rocking it.. upgraded from vista ultimate 64bit..

win 7 beta is a ultimate version, so it has the same extras as vista ultimate.. Its pretty good, really stable, alot faster than vista too, its basically a tweaked vista. I know alot of people dislike vista because they say its a resource hog etc, but vista is pretty fast and stable when you tweak it *turn some graphical features off*.. One thing thats great about vista was it doesnt get garbaged up over time like xp did.. 7 should be the same thing. Ive read on forums that some guys have installed 7 on older machines that couldnt run vista, and 7 runs pretty good on those systems.. its got all the right tweaks that Vista should have been when it was released.

Its got a new windows media player, media center and internet explorer, I dont use those though.

MS Paint has more features and what not, can probably do more stuff in that now.

Some apps may not work properly, but you just put them in vista or xp compatibility mode and they work.

Right now i cant get my zune software to work *ironically its a microsoft product* lol

Theres going to be a watermark on the background that says "Windows 7 beta, for testing only" , but theres a patch that will remove it so it looks legit. And i think theres some patches to remove the time limit on it too.

Don't worry it's safe, there are legit ones out there.

If you're still skurred :keke:....I can give you the link to the one I used.

I made a thread already on this: http://zilvia.net/f/off-topic-chat/231860-windows-7-beta-1-a.html

Even before removing the watermark, I must say I like it a lot and have no serious "cons". Lemme know if you have any questions.

I used it at a friend's house... I dig it. He's been testing it for over a month now, and it hasn't crashed at all. lol

Sounds promising.

Just gotta wait for all the developers to catch up and make everything work on Win7 now lol

Same shit, different GUI. Win 7 uses the Vista kernel. It's literally Vista with a make over. :barf:

So...

How does one get a Windows 7 key?

Duff: Did you try spelling out Seven?

IE on Windows 7 crashes when you go to nicoclub forums. Otherwise I really like it, and that you can get free internet security software from companies participating in the beta test.

yeah, and even when its spelled "Se7en" since ive seen that as well..didnt work...but if you have a hotmail or msn live id (or make one) and sign up on the microsoft website, it will send you a key when u apply for it for free...its just a matter of obtaining windows 7 itself right now since its no longer offered on the website as a direct download :(

IE on Windows 7 crashes when you go to nicoclub forums.

PERFECT!!!!!....now i MUST have it

so how did you guys update the drivers for your comp to work with WINDOWS 7? Like how companies have different drivers for XP, Vista and what not.

HyperTek

it uses vista drivers

and if you have problems.. right click on the file, properties and set to vista compatibility.

yea, except it isn't, it may have the same core but its been highly polished...and i'm not talking about just the GUI.

Try it out and put it under a load, I notice my computer is quicker in some tasks over when I boot into Vista. Also changing even layouts of some things can increase productivity...the new preview setup for example is very nice.

its like Windows 2000 and Win XP, both based on the "same" build of NT. (same goes for 95/98/ME)

Vista and 7 are both NT 6.x builds

Bumping this thread to let you guys know that another build is out there, rumored to be "RC1".

I have the x86 version and currently downloading the x64 version.

Surprisingly it comes with a quirky bug from the start (literally) :keke:

W7 is to Vista what Win98 was to Win95.

Still having issues with my firewall. Had to tweak my Audigy drivers to work, but so far the lower system requirements have been good. I got it running on a lower spec PC to evaluate for my dept at work.

WMe is a 9x based OS with NT's TCP/IP stack.

NT was the basis of Windows 2000 and Windows XP.
