I have never asked this question before, so I better get a fricken answer, or so help me, I won't help anyone else! J/k.
But I'd really like to know what rims these are.
If you know a price or dealer, let me know too.

Advan AVS Model 5, or a knockoff of the Advan AVS Model 5.

Awesome wheels.

Are ADR shitty rims?
I really am liking those 18x8 for the front and 18x9 in the back.
What offset should I be looking for (or close to)?
Oh.. I want the HMC Black (midnight chrome look) on my red s14.
Or.. am I way off and shouldn't waste anymore time on these?

Dude, people can think whatever they want about ADR. My buddy John, works for Golden Apple (the distributor of ADR rims) and let me tell you, the HMC black Kasai's is OFF THE HOOK. They are beautiful in person, (i.e. the pictures don't do it justice). The lowest offset you can get on the ADR's though is +35, so just run that front and rear. I was actually hoping to get those on my car, but they don't make the 17's in the proper offset (or wide enough, only 17x8 IIRC).

i say if you gonna buy rims. go all out and get the real deal but be prepared to spend at least 500 each for the AVS

dont you mean S15 Spec-R?? LoL, look at the tailights and the body and it's kinda obvious its an S15. now that i am typing this i realize you probably just hit a 4 instead of a 5 so this post is completely pointless.

Allright. Now tell me why. Only difference I can find is a +4mm offset for the Advans, and they are 2 pounds lighter. Does that justify a $280 difference per rim? Not to me!
Talk me into it.

The correct offset and -2lbs of rotating mass along with quality construction are well worth the extra $280/wheel to me. The way the spokes angle in on a low offset Advan is something to be admired. If you want the real Advans, PM me and I'll shoot you a price. Not going to be as cheap as the ADRs, but I'll do what I can to keep ghetto shiot off of your car.

those are tenzos..and tenzos are knock offs...think of the quality of ADR..which is even worse.

hit a pothole or a wall hard enough with ANY wheel and it will do that. i saw a pic of a magnesium ferrari wheel that had completely separated. the spokes were still on the hub, but the rim was gone.

that rim you show is COMPLETELY FUBAR. the advan would have smashed just the same. advan is better, but not unbreakable.

jeff, get what you can afford. i want better wheels too, but it's just not in the cards right now. hence, i'm getting my ****ty 17's powdercoated. yay

Magnesium is not aluminum. Magnesium wheels tend to stress fracture over time and should be x-rayed each year. Aluminum is much more durable if correctly formed/designed. Despite how heavy that crap Tenzo wheel is, it still didn't have enough "meat" at the seam where it broke at. A quality wheel would've either just bent at the lip, or been strong enough to soak up the hit. Also, crap suspension will make your wheels/tires do a lot of the bump absorption

If you can't justify spending 280 more per Advans then don't get em. Get whatever rims you want because IT IS YOUR CAR, YOU HAVE RIGHT TO DO WHATEVER THE HELL YOU WANT TO.

I wouldn't put some cheap knock- off wheels on my car- It's all about knowing that you have the real deal.:)

It's so funny how people who can't afford the real Advans whine about they are overpriced this and that. Don't put down Advans because you can't afford them.

He never knocked them. Jeff just said he can't justify spending the money. I can't either. So I am waiting for the once in a lifetime deal on used rims that I love.

Also for those of us that don't live in Cali we don't have the hookups for good rims for a good cost. You can walk into a rim shop pic what you want and go. I, on the other hand, have to search the internet and pay outragous shipping costs to get what you guys in Cali have easy access to.

Hell, no tuner shop in VA that I know of really even supports RWD imports. All +40 and up offsets

Edit: Also if your rims are stollen or you brake a rim you can replace a Rota Subzero a hell of a lot cheaper than a Racing Hart CP035

How much more do I need? I'll be running 15-18psi on a straight t4! More fuel... yea. I need that. Rims. Much later, unless I get a hookup from somewhere.

if it were my choice to make(wich it once was) i would either
a) choose the advans and find a way to get them
or
b) settle for a less expensive wheel thats not a knock off. there are other original wheels out there that aren't that $$.
rh evolutions come to mind but i don't think they offer much of an offset variety

I figure your spending so much money on the engine you might as well buy some knock off rims, let the engine speak for the car. Look at some of the people on this board, with thier junkyard unpainted parts, what do you need to worry about when it comes to rims.

I guess the real answer you were looking for was will they hold up as well as advans, Thurazor says he loves his, so its not like they break or anything like that.

You could save half the monye on some knockoffs and get something else done to the car, or you could juss get some Corvette ZR1 wheels (gotta love black with polished lip :D ). Look for some domestics with nice rims in junkyard and save up for the advans.

I know a few others besides me that have the Kasais and all of them were pleased just as much as I am. Just because it's a knockoff doesn't necassarily mean it's ****-poor quality. Granted, I'm not a 240 owner and neither are my friends who have the Kasais, but it's still the same rim and I wouldn't be recommending it if I thought it had quality issues. When and if you decide to get the rims, you'll fall in love with them just like I did :)

If I put a lot of time, effort and money into my engine, I must really care about my car. Why on EARTH would I put trash rims on it? My opinion, if you're going to be a cheapskate fine. If you are going to build a car CORRECTLY, then don't cut any corners. Or don't bother to put together a half-assed car.

Is is just me or are the front wheels of that s15 on the dyno, and the rear ones not? Maybe its just not in position yet.

Any how, get rims you like and will be happy with. Bottom line: if you end up replacing the rims with nicer ones in a year, youve just wasted your money, so buy something you will be happy with for the long haul.
And there is something to be said for getting cheaper rims, and spending more $ on nicer tires. Cuz the nices rims in the world dont help at all if they have cheap tires.

good point abut cheap tires. but then again, even cheap wheels should have quality tires. tires save your life and your cars. tires and brakes. most important part on anyones car
