So I started this in September of 08 and am almost finished with the build. I rushed into buying the best deal I could find on an sr swapped s13 chassis, and make it to VD07 and got the car a week before the event. Unfortunately it had a R32 front end on it, but It made it through the first even easily. It's not quite up to the caliber of some of the builds on here, but my main goal with this build was to do one event every month and work on the car between events. So far I have gone once a month since Sept 08, haven't missed one month!!!

here is the car as i picked it up, I rushed into buying it cause I had registered for VegasDrift 007 with no car and a week out I had to make a choice, the cheapest SR'ed 240 I could find, I was brand new to drifting and looking int eh wrong places, lol. found it on Autotrader.com

What the hell is up with the fenders on that one pix???

which?

if u mean the action shot from Primm, those fenders have already been replaced with wide body ones. When I swapped to the stock s13 front end, Andys Auto sport sent me the wrong over fenders so I had to snag two super fast to make the primm VD event with a front end, and the passenger side one I got was dented in, from the previous owner's door hitting it. If you mean the first pic, its the r32 fenrders. other than that I dunno...

I'm glad you went back to the original front end. I believe this car was for sale in Socal at one point. I remember seeing the R32 front, or maybe it was another car. Keep it coming!

Yeah this is the same car I bought it in San Diego about a year ago. Next thing is changing everything over to AN fittings under the hood. I will post some updates and more pictures after this weekends VegasDrift event. The blue is just my own expression of individuality and I much more concerned with how the car performs that how it looks. Its the 10 foot rule, a drift car should look good from about 10 feet away. I did sand and primer almost everything I painted, and also lots of layers. The whole car is rattle can inside and out.

i know its a track car but i think you could have made it look a lil better or better taste in its appearance lol, or kept the r32 front end since it makes the car unique compared to the sea of s13s lol
i mean you spent some $$$ for a sick ass cage and all, just to half ass on the spray can choice

02-22-2009, 04:56 AM
if you're brand new to drifting and only doing one event a month....I wouldnt be spending so much money....get a feel for the car...drifting isnt all about power. But at least you got an S15 turbo and didnt do like I've seen people do and slap 2871R .86(why i donno) or gt30's on and go drifting. Either way, you got a good basis to build from and you're almost where I tihnk you should be. Good suspension, fresh chassis and not an overkill in power.

P.S. If you were boosting less than 6psi with the sidemount, its cuz your turbo was trash, my sidemount is awesom at 7psi and works great til a about 11 then it heat soaks

I think the paint on the cage looks phenomenal, especially in person. The anodized blue is very nice. Most importantly, the cage is not for looks, but function.

I have only been at it for a year, but trust me I am better than some who have been doing it for 3-5 years. I am a really fast learner and have been driving and flying my whole life. I will actually be entering the Formula D Pro event qualifier in Vegas this year in July, so the work I have done is completely within reason to my driving ability. I needed to get the car Formula D legal and fairly competitive. In fact, I already have an engine rebuild and larger turbo planned for next year.

here are a few more pics and a video link form this past weekend.

New part to be installed this weeked:
http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/upload/240SX/New3/normal_PICT3473.JPG

Full Race Manifold!!! I have to pull the turbo because I forgot to install the oil restrictor on my turbo oil lines, and since i have to pull the whole thing I decided to get the mani as I got a really good deal on it. Brand new it is $949 i paid much less from Forrest so I had to scoop it up. I also just ordered a Greddy 3" turbo elbow since that was stock too and the exhaust is 3". I decided to go with the Trust/Greddy one cause of the flange to separate the wastegate form the exhaust which I am told helps to reduce turbulence and increase flow, plus I ahve a lot of other Greddy stuff so why not.

Right now I am sourcing some black braided lines to install my new Sard FPR with AN fittings. I also got the pressure sensor for my sbc i-color boost gauge so I can read the fuel pressure in the cabin, and will still use the one under the hood for adjustments.

Last, I need to put in the steering rack bushings. I wish I would have opened the box for them sooner and saw that they are slotted and slide right over. for some reason I thought the tie rods had to be disconnected and then they went on. I wuold have done this much easier a few weeks ago when the motor was out. Live and learn.

I will post pics of all this as the work gets done.

that was even before I painted the car, i really do like anodized blue...

I am going to redo the valve cover, so it looks more anodized

her eis my new turbo elbow and Sard FPR The FPR also has a sensor attached to read pressure in the cabin on my boost controller.

I also have black braided hose for all of my fuel lines now, that will be going on this weekend as soon as i figure out my new manifold clearing the outlet pipe

so work from 8-6 but got out late and got home bout 7 started working on car. Pulled the mani again and re clocked it. I was really surprised but I was able to rotate it enough and still get the actuator to reach the waste gate. Luckily that little bend in it allowed me to twist it upside down and it reached the the waste gate. Put everything back on and it all fit! I was super stoked.

http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/PICT3499.JPG

I tried to turn the compressor as much as possible and still get the actuator to reach so that the coupler wouldnt touch the manifold and just melt away, and surprisingly the intake still fit fine.

here everything is mocked up, still need to bolt the manifold all the way on and hook up everything else, power steering and intake and what not.

I tell ya though that manifold is a work of art!

and the new turbo elbow:
http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/PICT3502.JPG

at least I am 3" from turbo back now.

tomorrow I will finish putting everything back together and also install the Sard Fuel Pressure regulator and convert all of the fuel delivery lines to black braided hose and AN fittings. If I have time I am going to do the steering rack bushings. That is the last thing I am doing before the 626 drift comp at Balcony on the 15th, then I got invited to represent VegasDrift at Collinf Frost's Spirit Drift in LA April 15th and the week after that VegasDrift at Buffalo Bill's in Primm on the 25th. I won't be doing any work until after the 25th. Then I will be going to z23 brakes and converting the oil catch can and power steering lines to black braided hose and AN fittings. I will also do the changes to the LCA and spindles for the increased steering angle.

Still looking good.

Funny how people are freaking out about how much money you've spent, though you've just got all the basic goods (besides sick full-race mani) and are buying quality parts.

I'm glad you know what you're doing. So many people don't.

yeah I do have more pics of the install I will post them up in a few, I love the hydro ebrake, it works amazing. I just need to upgrade to Z32's in the rear, well all the way around really, to be most effective. What I really like is the placement. It only takes a fraction of a second to grab the handle and initiate the ebrake, with very minimal hadn travel.

Last night I finally was able to install the new fuel pressure regulator and new pro lite black braided lines with AN fittings. I am absolutely in love with the pro lite lines, and will convert everything to them!

I put a T in the line and attached the old Greddy FPR gauge into it, so I can read the pressure in the engine bay for adjustments.

also threw on the Blitz radiator 1.3 bar cap

and Greddy anodized blue oil filler cap. Need to anodize the valve cover.

yeah i will, i need to cover all of the holes in the fire wall with metal tape anway for FD compliance.

My rear bumper came off at Horse Thief Mile this Saturday, and even though it was about six feet off the course, 3 people managed to hit it! I repaired it with the trusty zip tie stitching method, but i need to get a new body kit. Most likely an Origin Aggressive type 1 or 2 and then I will repaint the whole car. Still deciding what color to go with. Either a nice blue or even possibly black. When I go to 5 lug and get new wheels I might go with polished or white wheels to again be compliant with the new change in FD judging rules which wnat you to have light colored wheels.

wow how eloquent...

no updates as of yet. I need to fix my turbo/manifold. During practice for last weeks So Cal Drift comp, my turbo separated slightly from the mani causing a serious boost leak. It was like driving a KA! or worse...Apparently I made another mistake and didn;t use locking plates when installing the full race maifold and two of the screw backed themselves out. I did a bumper tap on the wall and it cuased the exhaust to swing out and seperate the two. I always learn the hard way. I have two locking plates coming in and will replace them in time for Vegasdrift on the 25th. The rear bumper is shot too so I am ordering a Origin Aggressive II full kit. I will paint the whole car very soon, and yes probably blue! I am consideing the Z33 daytona blue or something similar. I just bought a 2004 YZF450S and dropped some money into that, so no car parts for a few weeks.

http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/upload/YZF450/1.jpg

Just put on new bars, AVS unbreakable levers, and grips. Need to replace the crankcase cover, and do a oil change/filter change this weekend, and then I am doing Hot Cams. That thing has some balls! I am riding every weekend that I am not drifting, makes the time between events go faster!

The to do list for the car over the next few months:

First fix the manifold then

1.) Five lug swap
2.) RPF1 17x9 front and 17x10 rear
3.) Z32 breaks
4.) Origin Aggressive II Full Kit
5.) full paint job exterior only
6.) Bride or Sparco FIA approved seat
7.) Battery relocation
8.) External Kill Switch
9.) Tow hooks
10.) Cover all holes in firewall

I will post updates iof all, thanks for looking and all of the support, positive feedback. Zilvia is a great community.

So its been a while since I posted updates. I didn't do much work lately because I have spent so much time riding moto X. I have been getting in a lot of track time and jumping a lot. If I am not drifting I Want to be riding!. I did the So Cal drift competition two months ago and was killing it in practice, laying down some of the better runs along with Josh G and had a really good chance of placing well until my manifold separated from the turbo! Apparently I missed the memo on locking plates! SO I took off the mani and installed longer turbo studs I found at Ace hardware, put on the locking plates and two nuts on each stud.

Vegasdift 11 at Buffalo Bills was great, car running perfect and got in some great tandem action with Forrest Wang and some great drivers from AZ.

http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu58/LV_AE86/VD076.jpg
I let Josh drive my car a bit in the middle of the day because his car was out of commission. He wasn't used to my car, although after a few laps he said it drove great, and he accidentally spun on a wide line and hit a curb on the passenger side. The damage was pretty decent, and put me out of commission.
http://thirdeyephotography.smugmug.com/photos/531024108_t2KmA-L.jpg
you can see some of th damage here:
http://thirdeyephotography.smugmug.com/photos/531024152_zJKj7-L.jpg

and here you can really see the positive camber instantly added to the rear right wheel.
http://thirdeyephotography.smugmug.com/photos/531024211_sZ6Hu-L.jpg
here you cant se the tears in my eyes but they were ther, well almost.
http://thirdeyephotography.smugmug.com/photos/531024255_y8NBU-L.jpg

So it was time to go five lug and get new wheels, and I bought the five lugs from CFinch along with some z32 brakes and a nismo power brace. I picked them up form him at the VD11 event. Since Josh broke my car he offered to help fix it and was true to his word, he is a good guy thats why I didn't mind letting him drive my car. The worst part of the whole thing was the loss fo seat time.
We pulled the whole rear subframe off as the toe rod and rear lca were totally bent:
http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/upload/240SX/050909/SNC00042.jpg
here you can see the lca bent but it is a blurry
http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/upload/240SX/050909/SNC00043.jpg
Josh ordered a new battle version toe arm for me, and pulled a s13 sub frame form a shell at Spring Mountain Auto Body and was extremely helpful in the swap. HE did a lot of the work when I had to leave to get a tap and die kit to fix a bolt that the thread got trashed at the bottom. Of course it was the last bolt to get the sub frame in.

I also got my RPF1's!!!!!

http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10002/SNC00036.jpg

So now I have the five lugs on the rear, along with the new sub frame and z32 brakes. I also got some 20mm H & R 5 lug spacers with Muteki light weight lugs in guess what...anodized blue!

http://www.teahnshawn.com/gallery/albums/upload/240SX/050909/SNC00044.jpg

I wasn't able to get many pics due to the time constraints. I had to much to get the repairs dne as Van and Tom were nice enough to let Josh and I use there facilities and stayed late for us to finish, but I didn't want to keep them too late.
Next week I am going to install Tein s14 inner tie rods with SPL v5 outer tie rods, the front 5 lugs, spacers and z32 brakes. I have Hawk brake pads and stainless steel brake lines coming in tomorrow. We will also put in a rebuilt steering rack and the nismo power brace. I will try to get more pics of these and the car with all four wheels on.

I love the RPF1's, simply a great lightweight wheel for the price. I have 8 and am getting 4 more soon. After the May 31st RAD Experience at HTM, its time for body kit and paint! I can;
't wait. I will also powder coat the intercooler piping and valve cover.

Thanks for reading! and happy drifting.

So this past weekend I was able to get some more things done. I was going to get a Hicas rack, but I decided just to pull my rack and swap it with a rebuilt rack from ARE here in Vegas, so I could get the car back together as quick as possible.

Be careful using all the bumpsteer adjustment in the tie rod ends, you can snap the shank. Drifting is harsh on those, especially when hitting the bump stop.

awsome build!!!

but can an s13 ever really be done?

Volchok
06-17-2009, 03:07 PM
yeah thats very true, in fact I realized that I still need to do the power steering cooler, they were out of the one I wanted when I ordered from Summitt the other day. I still have to do that and I need more gauges and replace the existing non functioning cluster with a custom one that does work. So that would be a fuel gauge, tach, E.G.T and maybe speedo.

But it will be almost complete! I am really excited about all of the parts that are on order. I seriuosly can;t wait!!!! The pain job is going to be great, make the whole car look completely different.

Well I just killed my motor last night doing a drift demo with Forrest Wang at the Bulling, Las Vegas Motor Speedway to a super modified/midget crowd of about 3500 people. I had the throttle pinned for about 5 mins straight temps soared and fucked up my motor. Going to try to swap in a built motor before the Pro ams next week. Wish me luck!

when you have a twin scroll manifold, it takes advantage of the divided pulse of an inline four's firing sequence to increase the spool time of the turbo.

The old design put the wastegate in between the two divided chambers releasing some from both chambers, the new design puts one waste gate per chamber, allowing for a much smoother and faster release.

plus it looks badass

im actually somewhat impressed by the 3rd page of this thread, at the 1st i was a little weary on how much of a "track car" it was going to be and its turned out great. Starting off simple and moving forward the more you drive it is the way a lot of guys should do it instead of trying to have it all done at once.

Again, keep up the good work.

HOLY MOLY, I have to say I love the white, overall style is legit, I like the v-mount, never seen it like that before. Any info on the wiring? Cost and how you did it? Are lights and horn, wipers, functional? SICK build dude, Mine is on its way, I got every part I need but its -30 here and the garage my 240 is stored in has no heat or electricity lol.

the wiring is a painless 8 circuits extreme conditions fuse block and a 6 switch non fused panel to go with it. I also bought weatherpack connectors for all of the connections, all bought from summittracing.com. The headlights and turn signals work, but I have no wipers, high beams, pop up lights horn or anything I don't need from a track car. They make ones with 12 and 18 circuits for all fo that stuff if you need it.
i do have a stereo though. LOL subs and amp coming later.

Yes it is a stock bottom end. Just s15 pistons. I like it, no issues, plus it is so easy to pick up another long block and swap everything over.

Because that would usually be the heater system, and he's blocked it all off.

Volchok
01-04-2010, 02:47 AM
^^^ yeah that goes to heater core, one of the spots you can block off but the head and block have to be looped. This is the best way, AN fittings and a short loop, it will also be cushion clamped to the motor. You don't wan t to be in the middle of an event and tear a heat hose line, and the stock piece for this has about 5 sections any one of which could leak.

I've had the same debate with a couple people. Despite how much more functional the front mount really is with such shorter piping and position (with proper hood venting of course) of Vmount, who honestly doesn't love looking in the rear view mirror to see a big dirty mean ass intercooler scream up behind you?

I know my ricer side does. LOL.

On a side note...I restarted from the first page again on this thread just to actually take in and grasp what you've done in such a short time while managing your money properly. Truly a great build here! I'm continuously loving it.

Don't quote me on it as I've yet to see it in the thread, but I'm going to guess that they're 17x9 +20, seeing as how that's a very commonly good size for those rims.

Keep up the good work! Oh yeah the Vmount is sick and more functional, I don't care what anyone says!

i am surprised at the lack of blue in the last batch of pics.

The cross member, spindles, power brace, tension rods and some other under body stuff is blue now. Not much in the engine bay painted blue, but there is a lot of anodized blue stuff now. It should look sick when all put back together, should be really soon Volchok's cranking on this car..

Why are the springs white on your coils? Just painted them, or different rates?

Volchok

they are painted and then clear coated with the silver flake, looks good in person. same coils.

It's looking good, loving the color. The only question that I have is, are you worried about how the paint is going to hold up on the springs?

with the stiffness of the dampener the coils barley compress under load. The paint will crack but it will hold. If you look at it closely you will see a lot of cracks all over it over time, but it still looks good, you rarely get that close.
