the clutch in my Sentra blew out yesterday.  could smell it forever.  anyways, getting a new clutch put in right now.  how long do they last?  just curious because it was the original clutch that came with the car and she has 97k on her.  I'm thinking that's bad...right? haha, well I didn't do aynthing to it, it was just her time.  all the gears just burnt up and all it would do was rev, wouldn't stay into any gear at all.  and of course I have no tach in my car so that too doesn't help.  but question is...how long should they/do they usually last?

In a perfect world, you would never have to replace a clutch, but realistically, it all depends on how you treat the clutch. I would say replacing a clutch every 100k miles isn't that bad, but then again, some people drive 300k and the clutch is still good. YMMV.

How come you don't have a tach?  I put that message up there about adding one on internal coil versions, if that's the case with yours.  Just curious.  I couldn't live without one.

the life of the clutch is solely dependent on the driver.  i know someone who burnt out his clutch in 3 days.

3 days?!  How did he do that.  What did he try to start his car on a hill in 3rd until he got up to speed?

dang.  I just don't have a tach, it's not in my dash, came stock like that.  I usually go by sound anyways.  and I just got the car about a month ago, started driving it daily last week.  I mean I'll be honest I'm not the greatest stick driver, but I know i"m good enough that I didn't do it in 5 days lol.

One would think he knows the difference between his tires squeeling and the sound of his engine struggling to melt his clutch.

Oh, god that must smell.
