hey guys just thaught id throw my new build. i know its not a silvia, but most of the chasis and suspension is. :D. anyway here it is.

Europe's First V8 ae86. now some people will like the idea some will hate it, but ive always had a thing for the v8 engine and the ae86, so why not combine the two? this is my build over the last few months, getting ready for Prodrift/D-rift, and time attack, + hopefully a few rounds abroad!

basicaly starting off with a trueno ae86,
1uzfe 8cyl, 32v Quadcam, have to keep her toyota!
4 stud s13 rear axle, to keep same wheel fitment
s13 front lca's,hubs,brakes,coils.
supra w58 gearbox.

this is what i started off with.
http://i25.tinypic.com/2cx91zl.jpg%5B/IMG%5D
http://i30.tinypic.com/2rcre3a.jpg%5B/IMG%5D

started to trip her down back in january 08, to see what i have to work with?

http://i26.tinypic.com/10wt9fs.jpg%5B/IMG%5D

then cut up the back end, choped the floor and the chasis mount for the panhard rod!

http://i30.tinypic.com/nqbec3.jpg%5B/IMG%5D

the s13 rear axle.

recond the axle, and new pollybush kit

new custom belhousing for w58 to fit the 1uz.

http://i27.tinypic.com/256ahyt.jpg%5B/IMG%5D
http://i27.tinypic.com/1jxf8l.jpg%5B/IMG%5D

new custom flywheel. to fit 1uz, but to take a 3sgte clutch.
http://i32.tinypic.com/f3xo4g.jpg%5B/IMG%5D
new stage 4 racing clutch:
http://i31.tinypic.com/epkh88.jpg%5B/IMG%5D
new tension rods
http://i30.tinypic.com/2cr1qap.jpg%5B/IMG%5D

i havent worked on it since febuary 08, but i took it out there in september and got stuck in. so heres the update.

this is how I left it in febuary!
http://i35.tinypic.com/msdcet.jpg

starting to mount the s13 rear axle, just lining it up.
http://i35.tinypic.com/504nrq.jpg
http://i36.tinypic.com/2hggs9i.jpg

measured and set the front mounts and welded on the plates.
http://i35.tinypic.com/2wmdksm.jpg

started to measure rear end mounts.
http://i36.tinypic.com/wbf2nc.jpg

then fabricated rear u beam mount. And fixed to chasis
http://i38.tinypic.com/o77wh2.jpg
http://i36.tinypic.com/mt7a89.jpg

welded in gussets to chasis leg for extra strength.
http://i33.tinypic.com/2wmglko.jpg

new rose jointed rear arm set.

bolted up s13 rear axle, fits sweet.

http://i33.tinypic.com/23hmv54.jpg
http://i34.tinypic.com/abi446.jpg

turned her right way up and started on the engine.

the itb’s arrived
http://i33.tinypic.com/2ew389g.jpg
http://i37.tinypic.com/1zpk09c.jpg

the engine, what I started with, a old v8 out of a soarer.
http://i20.tinypic.com/r0bk1z.jpg

and what I made of it, built up on stock internals, new belts and gaskets,
ae101 itb’s, custom manifold adaptor, stainless exhaust manifolds, and I polished
the rocker covers, pretty standard but good for 300+bhp.

http://i38.tinypic.com/2z8cg0l.jpg
http://i35.tinypic.com/2quu7gx.jpg
http://i33.tinypic.com/dcswuo.jpg
http://i34.tinypic.com/20fxgs4.jpg

itb’s, pure sex,,,,,,
http://i35.tinypic.com/hx64qx.jpg

throttle linkage
http://i37.tinypic.com/9ftu1k.jpg

custom flywheel, with auto ring gear. Takes 3sgte clutch kit.
http://i35.tinypic.com/xmiil0.jpg
now to mount the engine, at first glance it doesn’t look like its gona fit
but when we measured her up, its pretty tidy. i didn’t cut the bulk head, we bet it back a few inches which was more than enuf, just cut the tunnel,

http://i33.tinypic.com/2lc5h0i.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/348ohhw.jpg
http://i34.tinypic.com/2epn494.jpg

The cut tunnel for the big supra box.
http://i34.tinypic.com/5otqw3.jpg

I then fabricated the cross member,
http://i35.tinypic.com/2mnmxwi.jpg
http://i34.tinypic.com/33c2051.jpg

test fit with lotus box, have a better box coming from England
http://i34.tinypic.com/2055wk9.jpg
http://i35.tinypic.com/2aj6vxh.jpg

new ls400 front mounted baffled sump.
http://i35.tinypic.com/28gqwxi.jpg
http://i35.tinypic.com/121cpk9.jpg

a few late nights but it’ll be worth it.

engine in, at last,
http://i37.tinypic.com/1z215pw.jpg
http://i36.tinypic.com/5xu82f.jpg
http://i36.tinypic.com/15yewsx.jpg

I used mounts similar to the mk2 escort, to make
things easyr and cheeper to replace, also stiffer,
http://i34.tinypic.com/2u7q78n.jpg
http://i36.tinypic.com/16oqbs.jpg

now to fabricate the tunnel. I decided to make it out of one piece sheet metal,
just to keep it looking neat
Tacked in place
http://i34.tinypic.com/adzu3a.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/21999on.jpg

and finished
http://i38.tinypic.com/t554wk.jpg
http://i37.tinypic.com/ot14dl.jpg

seem welded the whole shell, underneath, inside, and in the engine bay, also patched up any rust, and gusseted the chasis in a few places for strength,
http://i37.tinypic.com/125nk02.jpg
http://i34.tinypic.com/2rqh9jo.jpg

right, had big problems with the rear suspension, my original idea was to get ae86 coilovers so I wouldnt have to fabricate turrets in the rear, and I could change the end to suit the axle, so I bought a set, but when fittling them I relised they didnt fit???, it turns out they were for a turreted ae86.. Like ??? ???. Anyway, in the end if I was going to have to turret the rear end I was going to do it properly, so I orderd set of s13 rear coilovers, and got to work.
Big hole
http://i36.tinypic.com/2s0xt2s.jpg
http://i33.tinypic.com/2drsxtv.jpg

the finished product, my sexy new turrets,
http://i34.tinypic.com/205vcdf.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/14cw380.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/33fdx1c.jpg

coilovers bolted in, lookin sweet. Man the more I do on this the more I wana drive it,

Since I have the s13 rear end, which gives me about 30mm extra track each side,
I have decided to put the s13 front end in aswell. Lca’s, hubs, brakes, coilovers, and using the ae86 top mounts, and ae86 tension rods. Makes for about 40mm extra track each side on the front end, and a very big upgrade in brakes. Also the s13 steering arm is about an inch shorter, but with a ae86 manual rack and the extra track, you get a whole lot of lock.

Striped down the front end ready for new set up.
http://i38.tinypic.com/rk93cg.jpg

here you can see the difference in length between the two lca’s, and the length of the steering arm.
http://i33.tinypic.com/w018hz.jpg

massive difference between the brakes, huge vented rotors and much bigger callipers.
http://i34.tinypic.com/esjouw.jpg

mounting the s13 lca. And hub assembly.
http://i33.tinypic.com/rrnr87.jpg
http://i36.tinypic.com/f06ioy.jpg

New coilovers and new adj tension rods.
http://i35.tinypic.com/1zvrj87.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/9a1lzb.jpg

Steering lock first attempt.
http://i34.tinypic.com/k0fxqq.jpg
http://i38.tinypic.com/2pqvxh1.jpg

few minor adjustmens later

And now I am very happy with the angle of lock.

i got the k-sports for free, good for mocking it up and rolling it around the shop. ill get tein for it befor she hits the track, i put the s13 suspension in mainly to keep the wheel stud fitment for my ae86 wheels. all that stuff is just mocked up, i have new brakes, and arms, and i have to powder coat some of the stuff. ive just primed the chasis, and i wana get it to paint before the weekend. ill get more pics up soon.

Hell yes! I wanted to put a 1UZ in my S14 but I could not afford it (because of all the fab work that would be needed). Where did you get your bell housing and ITB set up from? I know there are a few places in Australia that make adapter plates, but I've haven't seen a full bell housing.

got the bellhousing and flywheel of damien in a1turbos in newzeland. top guy and good value too. its expensive for all the conversion gear as the 1uz only came auto, but i went with it cos its so damn light. its only a few lbs heavyer than a sr20. full alloy block and heads.

this one is stayin fairly stock, but i have a spare engine that im gona build up for next year. should be good for 500+ and about 8.5-9k rpm.

Yeah, the motors are engineered GREAT - much like the 2J but better because its a V8, haha.

I will eventually get one with ITBs into my S14.

The fabrication work looks pretty damn good, but I am worried that not enough engineering went behind the placement of the rear subframe and front suspension pivot points. The rear subframe looks to be too low in the chasis to me, which will throw the rear roll centre out of whack. The roll axis of the car will most likely be far off, lower in the back.

i know where your coming from, and i had taught about it, my original idea was to have the axle low, and for the rear lca's to be parallel to the ground when driving. to make the car squat like a gokart or track car. my thinking behind this was for wide track, and very hard rear setup. but i have since thaught about it several times and am indecisive. im going to leave it as is for the moment, and see what its like when i drive it im completely unsure how this whole car is going to handle as it hasnt realy been done or tested before . its no big deal to change and remount the axle, a good days work will fix the geometry.

Looks like the rear subframe is mounted a little low... if you mount it up higher into the chassis you'll be able to lower the car more without the alignment getting out of spec. While you're at it, I would raise the mounting points of the top of the coilovers.

that rollcage is very impressive. Especially having it extend to the turrets. Great work and nice update! Keep us posted!

since starting this project I have completely changed the car several times.
Was going to just run the v8. then I decided on a English s13 axle with welder, then I decide, on s13 front end, and s13 brakes, then I decided on s13 coilovers and turreted the rear end, then I decided to scrap the safety devices cage and do it properly, …. And even now im still chaging my mind. its taking ages, but a wise man ones said theres no short cuts in doing something right. im not going to spare any expense on this as its at such a stage it would ruin the rest of the car.im even going as far as replacing and painting each nut and bolt. I would still do somethings diffrent like axle placement, but I wana see how this set up works first. I can rectify things as I go as im unsure of what its going to be like as this setup hasn’t been done before all in one car.
Hopefull it will turn out like the picture in my head, lol J

Painted the shell in post office red. Its enamel paint, so its seriously tough.

Actually kyle the first definition for spit in Websters dictionary is a thin rod to hold things over the fire. So though it is a Rotisserie its also a spit. In fact Rotisserries are technically just fancy spits. LOL

Rocco your build is absolutely crazy and fucking awesome. Your car is going to sound like its at LeMans with that ITB setup. I wanna hear that thing.

I used s13 outers on my front swap, used the s13inners welded to half of AE86 outers that serves as the extension needed also and is very strong with seam welding and a few plugwelds through the center. Heres is the ruff units installed, I made another set that ill try to find my pics of the finished product ground smooth and powdercoated.

nothing new on this?!

Quick question. Sorry if its already been answered.. When you did the s13 subfram/rearend swap, did you have to shorten it (width wise)? Ive seen on a couple of threads on other forums, stating that the subframe needs to be thinner, due to the s13 being wider than an 86…

vas570sx
08-22-2011, 02:49 PM
He mentioned that this subframe has a 30mm wider track width. I'm assuming he stayed with it because he used s13 suspension up front too which widened the front track width.

jumpman2334
08-28-2011, 01:28 PM
thanks. after i dug a lil more in here, i found my answer too.. id really like a rolla w/ s13 stuff up front, but i dont want to increase my width, so it looks like if i get one, ill be making my own LCA's... not too much of a challenge.. the r31 LCA's also bolt right on.
