I have my car completely srtipped and i was thinking about seam welding it before putting my cage in. is there any reason i should stich weld or can i just weld the seams? i dont wanna have to drill through the top layer of steel inbetween all the factory welds. thank you

yes looking for people who know what these are for input though. basically for seam welding you clean up the unibody seams and just weld them, no drilling required. for stitch/spot welding as some people call it, you drill through the top layer of sheet metal between the factory spot welds and weld that.

Either way is gonna be a pain in the ass, but the seam welding will work fine.
have fun removing seam filler haha.

haha yeah it will be easier to just remove the sealer then to have to drill a million holes also. thanks for the input

seam welding works better IMO, its just a PITA to remove all filler / seam glue.

just do the cage, if its properly done you wont need to do the seam welding. Its a huge headache.

to remove the seam sealer, use a cupped wire wheel on a grinder. Both types of welding you described in effect do the same thing.

The ones we did we did the seams. Just make sure the seams are clean and the car is on leval ground. You will be happy you did it. It is one of those things that you have the car torn down...why not.

Yup, huge pain in the ass. never heard of just drilling holes though. I just did my s14 and it took forever. What took the most time was actually taking the glue off. The car is 98% stich welded.....never took the dash out. I will do that once the cage is in. Might be over kill on welding/cage but you can def feel the difference.
Its totaly up to you homie.

its not that hard of a job, the worst part is pulling all the OEM seam sealer out and then hammering the pieces back in to position.
here are some pics of my stitch welding...
(I'm a awful welder.)
