alot of people in sd swear by pbm stuff. alot of good things.
i ran stance gr= pros in my 13. loved them. firm not harsh yet still smooth enough for
daily driver.
don't really know too much about d-max stuff, but it looks nice.

Add me to the pbm list, make it 2. People complain that they are two stiff for daily but I think they bareable and friends have rode in my car and don't think they are bad at all. I love my PBM!

A friend of mine had Powered By Max and really got me looking into them.
They were stupid stiff compared to my KSports**.
Daily driving I'd prefer my KSports due to the mostly pissy roads around here. But if it was my every now and then car, I'd jump for the PBM. They really are awsome.
Another one of my friends has Stance and his car keeps getting coolant leaks. Relevant, probably not, but it's true.

if the car is primarily a daily driver go with Stance
if the car is for the track go with MAX.
MAX's on full soft feel stiffer than Stance on full stiff.

Aren't Zeal's coilovers like at least $2k? I'm in this same dilemma, planning on getting coilovers at first I was for PBM, I still love PBM, but I think DMAX won me over with their blue and white. So I'm now planning on getting DMAX for my S13. PBM I hear is super stiff so my opinion would be PBM for track car, DMAX for daily/track.

pbm are really good, but they are out of stock of s13 coilovers(called on friday) so i got kts because kts are in the same price range
brndck
02-10-2009, 12:42 AM
kts ftw. great price and they offer the z32 lower mount for if you switch to 300zx rear uprights.
i have no expirence with Dmax's suspension but their aero is complete shit
wickedjester
02-10-2009, 01:27 AM
so my basic conclusion from this thread is
*dmax's look cool
*pbm good and local but super stiff for street driving
*zeals are ballin
*stance sounds all around to be good
*spl kts are coo;
so basically all this did was eliminate dmax and add stance and spl kts in to my equation.
lol

well pbm does also offer softer springs (6kg rear 8kg front) for cheap. well worth it. you can have track and street setups. ultimately its up to you. i used to have JICs. they were awesome too. but more expensive.
weigh out your budget/wants and make your decision from there.

You live in San Diego County and are comparing Parts Shop MAX to others?
Blasphemy!
I've ridden on Stance, APEX'i, and Teins and if I had to choose agian, I'd still go with MAX.
Track tested & proven. Support a local shop and rock the coils.
I'm just playin. Get whatever you want, but it'd be nice if you supported a local business. They have the best prices.

see, the thing with stepping down the spring rates on MAX coils is that the dampening is designed for 10/8kg. I've heard that going with a softer spring rate doesn't make much difference.
One good thing about the MAX's is the ability to replace the dampers for cheap. i think it was $400 for brand new equipment last time i checked... cheaper than stance i believe.
After having MAX's for 2 years or so, I have to say i'm impressed with the bang for your buck. They are proven to be durable, but fuck, on long trips or driving on anything other than smooth as glass tarmac, they get annoying. You WILL feel EVERY inconsistency on the road. Road paint feels like speedbumps.
On the other hand, they give great feedback-- the car is completely predictable sideways and they offer a ride height that can be lower than practical. They were designed to be good coils for drifting and that is what they do best.
We get a lot of questions from S-Chassis owners looking to buy our competition coilovers for street use like this...
"Is there a way to order a set with 8kg/6kg spring rates? I am going to be using them on my daily driver so I don't want them to be super stiff."
The short answer is yes, you can order them with 8/6 for no additional charge, it will be about 8 weeks till they come in.
My advice is that you should not buy our coilover if you are looking for a plush ride.
I would however recommend buying them at the original specification if you desire an aggressive coilover that is streetable, just adjust it to full soft. Most of our customers daily drive these competition coilovers, and they all say the same thing over and over in reviews: "Its not as bad as you'd think on the street". They are not as harsh with 8/10kg's as say a GP sport coilover with 9/7kg's because of our unique damper. Our damper has relatively little compression damping allowing the larger rate spring to compress more easily upon impact, yet they have an extraordinary amount of rebound damping to control the bounce you may expect with a conventional damper.
For your peace of mind, nobody has ever replaced a damper due to high mileage daily driving or track abuse other than crashing. If for some reason you should encounter a problem with your damper, we sell 100% brand new replacements for $100 each which costs less than other brand's rebuild, and boasts the advantage almost no down time. -Dan at MAX USA

I liket the Dmax cuz they they ahve the sleeve that allows you to convert your front knuckle to an S14 which is thicker. Personal oppinion. I also know that they run an Inverted monotube in the front and regular monotube in the rear. Much better than a twin tube setup. I'm not sure what the PBM is.
Jic flt-tar.
But I would def put the $ down for those ^

I've had Powered by Max coils on both a s13 and s14 and Stance GR+Pros on my 350z. Also have had Tein HEs, the PBM coils are stiff and good for track use and the stances were good all around. You can go super low with both sets. It just depends on what you are going to do but which ever one you choose, you cant go wrong!

PBM mutli-links ftw, would of gone with PBM but when I went to there shop they ran out of s13 suspension and would have had to wait till the next container came in. instead went with stance GR+ and love them.
I have PBM ruca's and sub-frame spacers, saving up for the tension rods next or something for the rear.
