Well, I just got my 1998 240. I don't know if it's an SE or an LE. It's got really stiff springs and a pinstripe though. Any thoughts?

If you have 16" five spoke dubs (like the ones you see below), a spoiler, and it has an "SE" emblem on the back...chances are you've got an SE.
This should help: http://www.socal240sx.org/faq/1998.html

Does it have a rear wing? Does it say LE or SE on the trunklid directly above the passenger's side taillight (or is it on the driver's side above the taillight---ARGGG can't remember on the '97-'98s). Does it have 5-lug rims or hubcaps?

It doesn't say LE or SE on the back. It has multispoke wheels 195 mm in width, but they're obviously not stock. It doesn't have a rear spoiler. It has the dual chrome tip exhaust. It doesn't have white faced gauges.

Actually, here's a really bad pic.

Those are stock 15" inch rims that were an option on the base model. No white faced gauges either...you have a base model.

I agree--it seems that you have a base model. That's not a bad thing though. It's still an awesome car--I've never seen those rims on a 240 before.

I know a guy who bought a '98 (or '97) that had those 4 luggies, but sported an SE badge. Some dealer duped him, I guess. He's 5 lug with R33 GTR dubs now. Lucky him!

It doesn't really even matter if it's an SE. There aren't any great differences.
SEs have five lug wheels (no big deal, easy to swap if you get the urge), white face guages, slightly better suspension (non-issue if you are going to upgrade anyhow), spoiler (meh), and a badge. Did I miss anything?
Regardless. You are looking at the same motor and drivetrain.

Hey blatch, I go to Purdue but live in Carmel. That pic was on cars.com for Butler Toyota. Did you end up getting that car yet? If not, I've got a 1998 240 SE!!! with 33,5k miles, auto, all the bells, whistles, yadda yadda as that car but with better wheels and that stuff for like the same price.
Lemme know.

Apparantley, from what I hear, rumors have told me:
Those wheels that were an option for the base model S14 are the same or very similar to the Type X S13. Is this true or false??

not similar, identical to the kouki 180SX stock wheels.

The sure fire way is:
Get the VIN number and input it in www.carfax.com they will be able to tell you [year, make, model, trim] for free but if you want to know more you have to buy the report.

I've never seen those rims on a 240 before.
those were base options on 97-98 . they are also Kouki 180sx type X wheels. Same casting . someone mentioned earlier they were identical . to make it more proper they are the same wheels.
they are 6.5 width and there offset is pretty stock.
they also came on the Infiniti G20 with a different offset due to front wheel drive.
