so my timings never been right. s14 kade and s13 dizzy in a 89.

so i do the whole business, stab it right, warm it up, kill it, unplug tps, shoot timing light.

but whatever i do its always a tooth off.

like i turn the dizzy full retarded, and the pin is still a ways off on the advanced side from where it should be.

okay. pull the dizzy, turn it a tooth retarded.

do the whole spiel again, shooting the timing light. dizzy is on full advance but now the pin is a ways off on the retarded sign.

okay i mustve did it wrong. pull it out and turn it a tooth advanced.

timing light, full retard on dizzy, still like an inch off from the mark on the advance side.

ive done this going back and forth a tooth business like 5 times now, and i can never get it anywhere close to on the money. i just left it on the too advance side of it and its seems okay but it just bugs me knowing that it isnt right.

is it 180 out or something obvious that i've missed? i thought it wouldnt run 180 out but hell idk.

what do you think?

it spins a bit when you put it in. maybe you moving it + spinning = 2 teeth instead of 1.
try taking it out and then just stabbing it back in.

Leave the TPS plugged in and see what it does. Set it to 20 deg BTDC there. The ECU will adjust the timing in "blips" to maintain the target idle speed, but it will idle at the factory timing setpoint for 90% of the idle.

Looking at a consult readout makes more sense.

For some reason, I can never get my SR into "timing mode," so I just set it according to the consult readout, which is 15 deg BTDC at idle 90% of the time. You'll see little 4 and 8 deg advances as the ECU controls the timing, but it's super easy to set this way.
