Hey what's up guys. I just turned 16, and I'll be getting a car in about a year or two. I know it seems a bit far off, but I'd like to plan ahead on what I'm getting. I know I want a 240SX and make it into a Silvia, most likely the S13. I was wondering, does anyone know where I could get the JDM Conversion kit for this Silvia? I've searched online for a while, but I could only find used ones. I'm looking to get a brand new one. Also, how much should the body work cost on it? I'm thinking about getting a SR20DET engine, since the car I buy will probably have too much mileage on it anyway. I've seen this engine for $1800 on Ebay a few times, is there anywhere else I could get for cheaper? How much would the labor roughly cost also? Well, thanks for all and any help, I really appreciate it.
Sincerely,
Paul Le of Dallas, Texas.

i figure i'll reply before any sucky people reply and tell you that you how dumb you are without even trying to educate you. It's not your fault.

You can't get a new silvia conversion for goodnessakes...it's like a 10 year old car. You can get a NEW aftermarket hood and new aftermarket(mostly widebody) fenders, and new aftermarket bumpers. i'll reply later when i find some links.

As for the SR....ebay usually isn't your best bet. Reputable sellers are plentiful now. It costs a bit more but it's reasonable considering the peace of mind and such. oh...labor and all parts from a good sr swapping shop should be around 5k. www.srswap.com

good luck. Prepare yourself...

Thanks, I really have no clue about the S13 as of yet. As a matter a fact, I don't know much about cars. I'm only 16, and sure there's kids my age who know more about cars, but never late than never, right? Anyways, I just got interested in it recently, a friend of mine showed me, he used to have one and I thought I'd do a little research. Are there dealers who get the parts from junkyards in Japan and ship them over? If not, where could I get my hands on the lights and all the other crap I would need for it? Thanks again, I appreciate the help.
Sincerely,
Paul Le of Dallas, TX

Get the car first....you never know, you might end up getting a S14 or a RPS13 (fastback).

Might not find a brand spanking new one...but you can checkout http://www.wholehyper.com Since you have the time, once in awhile parts will show up on e-bay.

Depends on whatever you can do it yourself or what body shop you take it to.

NEVER BUY ENGINES FROM E-BAY your wasting your time and money.

If you want cheap...well...you can check out http://www.flashoptions.com

I depends on where you go for the swap. Sometimes you can find a good deal in your area and sometimes you might have to go out of state or ghetto rig the swap.

So you want an SR20 becuase the mileage might be high. The KA, DOHC or not, is an exceptional motor and should not be underminded simply because of the high mileage. I also don't understand why you are planning mods for a car that you know nothing about..but better yet, own. Give the KA a chance...even if it isn't part of the trend.

Well seeing as you are only 16 you probably dont have much driving experience. Buy the car and learn how to drive safely before you get more power. A silvia front end, sr20det and bodywork dont come cheap. I hope you have a good amount of $ at 16 to buy all this. Silvia body parts dont come new. 1800 seems dirt cheap for an sr, but i would never buy it from ebay. Your probably gonna be missing alot of parts and wiring. You probably read that scc article on building a silvia for 3000:rolleyes:

Well, I DID say i wasn't getting the car for another year or two...and that's cause I'm gunna be working my ass off to get the money. My parents'll are helping me pay for it too...i think. By the way, I don't think i clarified this but, I was going to get all the under the engine mods AFTER the stock engine was out...I planned on doing all the rice first. :-D alright well i'm out, later.

wow, everyone else pretty much said everything I would have... so I just wanted to add this:

Why aren't more newbies like this guy?

I mean, he's got some ideas what he wants, but is ignorant of the detail of what it all entails; and that's not a bad thing at all, were were all newbies at somepoint. We learned the ropes as we went, and people were more than willing to help as long as you, the newbie, was respectful, and completely open to the advice given.

So props to you Phokingphosho, you're going about things the right way so far. RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH! Don't be afraid to ask about things you're unclear about, you're at the ideal age to learn important lessons BEFORE they become expensive and/or life threatening mistakes. Make good use of the search tool, and read all you can. Admittedly a lot of BS flies around here ;) but it won't take u long to tell what's what. Best of luck to you man :)
