Hi,
My friend is going to sell his Seibon CF Trunk....and he called me if i want it....
He will sell it for like 180-200 $ (brand new is 600+ $ )....So..i'm wondring does it worth it to buy it...or not...?
He says that the CF trunk is ~8-10 lbs lighter then the stock metal trunk..is the true...?
Thanks And Kind Regards,
Ali

you could pay yourself to hit the gym and lose 8lbs? good price but 200$ can go to something more useful

if you're into the carbon fiber look, then for $200, its a deal

go for it..its only 180-200. The weight will not be really noticeable but you can't go wrong with 180-200..they look good too. If you have most of the handling, performance mod done up to your standard, why not get the cf trunk!???

just go for it..you pretty much done most of the stuff you need anyways. Beside..its $200, you can't go wrong. I mean if you dont like it after you get it..sell it back out and you are not going to lose any money.

My car came with a VIS carbon fiber trunk, not something I would do myself. The trunk fit like hell and would not latch. I didn't think it was really worth it so I sold it and put the stock trunk back on from my wrecked car.

do this. as long as its on a car right now and you see how the fitment is. i wouldnt touch it if the fitment sucked, but for that price, the least you can do is flip it.

A color matched painted CF trunk might be neat.
Kind of pointless, but neat I guess.

why pointless? Im color matching my cf hood. I hate the look of CF on black cars so I will paint it. the extra weight from painting is minimal. When we painted one before I think it added almost 3 pounds. Not a bad price to pay if you want the weight reduction but not the flash.

Pointless because I'd be willing to bet 90% of the buyers will put it on their street car / weekend track wannabe car.
How much weight did the total thing save?
How much does one cost?
YES, pointless.
CrimsonRockett

You can shed off weight in different sections on the car to equal the savings from the CF trunk.
Hell, lose a couple pounds and that will equal the CF trunk AND you made a benefit to your own well being.
Color matched carbon fiber parts is cool, but it's still pointless.

Oh crap... I should clarify what I meant.
I think a CF trunk is pointless.
I think painting a carbon trunk is necessary.

Changing rear glass to lexan on stock hatch would be better than crappy seibon trunk.

flip that shit. talk your friend down to $150 and sell it to some fanboy for $500 saying that it's pretty much the most important mod for the proper drift setup
koguchi says so :keke:

you should buy and paint it the color of your car and show its off to honda guys and watch their jaw drop.Thats what i did with my old cf hood

buy it. flip it. and use that money for something important like school tuition or new tires?
If it was a CF hood I'd but it just bc the vert hood is hella heavy...

^^school tuition sucks..... definitely use your money for that. other wise, later on you'll have to sell your real goodies to make up for it when you run low on bank

wait a minute. painting your Carbon hood added 3lbs? LOL what did you paint it with lead based paint hahahhahhahhahha. Seriously two coats of paint should not weigh more than maybe a 1lb.
Oh and I am all about painting Carbon fiber hoods or trunks the Carbon Fiber look is so 90's.

no other trunk will fit more perfectly than the stock one. so i would say it's useless to painta cf trunk.
i have one myself. I bought it back when i was in high school and ditched it 2 weeks later.
But you can easily make money off it.
id say buy it and then flip it... why not? your friend wants to get rid of it, and im sure you could use an EXTRA 200 bucks... so you can spend 400 on something nice, like sway bars, or new tires, or better brakes.

evo ix brakes are pretty decent from what I hear ;)

Trunk= 24lb's
Generic CF skinned and glass reinforced trunk = approx 15 lb's.
My trunk = 4 lb's.
All that gel coated crap is almost as heavy as the oem.
but it looks pretty! lolol

I got my c/f trunk from Duffman in trade, and I like that it matches my carbon hood (which I got for free), and doesn't have a wing (or holes I need to fill).
Carbon looks cool on flat black cars.
I agree that they're not worth the money companies ask for them.

yea,
the thing is that there is only 3 S14 in this town :
Mine (95 US-Spec S14)
A Friend (the one who i'm gonna buy the trunk from ) -> (95 US-Spec S14 With LS7 Swap And Custom Wide body) (Yes LS SEVEN)
Another Friend (98 Euro-Spec S14 (Sr20DET Stock And Z32 Brakes From the factory))
So as you can see i can't buy it and "resell it"....b/c no one will buy it besides me !!!
I think i'm gonna do it...
Thanks guys,
Ali
cool! do it! but there are more people that would buy it than local unless you really don't want to ship... and you really are on an island like hawaii or guam... or the pi...
buy it and sell it for more
do this, or keep it
is it worth it? probably not, but you'd be spending a lot more than that to buy one later.
as for selling it, you don't have to do it locally post it up on Zilvia and ship it..

Just with hood pins. I do have a hatch mold, i just made the mold for the top skin. But i did plan to make the lower half when i had time. Time is something more elusive than money for me these days. Particularly when the baby came last October. :rimshot:

Eh, honestly i wouldn't, im not a big fan of cf really.
But as everyone else has been saying, you could make a pretty penny off it if you dont like it. Seems like a win/win situation imo.

I unfortunately cannot find any pics on my computer of the trunk itself. I have so much crap i need to organize on it. But this shows the back of the car with the wingstands going thru it to the floor. And the center garnish just has a carbon shell i made over it. http://www.kognitiondesign.com/cali-spdwy_08_2.jpg
