Isn't it kinda crazy to think that in just 6 years, an 89 240SX will be considered a classic car?!... its just gonna be weird when 240's are OLD, and kids are like..... weren't those things made way back in the 90's?

6 years is not a short time.

I know! Sometimes I wonder if I'm just crazy investing so much money into a soon to be 20yr old car, it's a scary thought.
Sometimes I just think about forgetting the whole thing and just buying a new car, but I dunno... my heart tells me no *sigh*... alas, the conflict

seriously though, does it make much sense to you guys to pay 20 grand on a brand new four cylinder, when you could spend 20 grand on an older BMW or Supra?.... just any much nicer car thats just a few years old

I agree. A lot of my non-car-enthusiast friends can't believe that I paid $11k for my car when it was 5 years old, because I could have had a '99-ish Grand Am or something like that for the same money. They just don't understand that some people really care what kind of car they drive--the performance, looks, reliability (most of the time), and the potential. A girl I work with says she doesn't care about the performance of a car--she only cares about what it looks like (this girl didn't even know how to check the oil before she started working with me). She drives a '00 Mazda 626 (which isn't a bad car at all, but it's a FWD automatic sedan) and she's criticized me quite a few times about the fact that she bought her car last year for $13k--and that's what I could have bought instead of my car. I keep telling her--I WANTED my car so badly, I searched for over a year for my car until I found the exact one that I wanted. ARGGGGGGG!!!!!!!!

until now there hasnt been many performance cars worth modifying in the import market, it was late 90's when all the best cars were taken away from us, 240sx 98', eclipse gsx 99', supra tt 98', mr2 turbo 96', rx7 tt 95' so when you actually look at it, the best looking and performing imports were made in the 90's, its been just recently that good imports like the 350z, evo viii, and wrx have been released with decent motors and chassis...

well, you could look at it another way...People invest tons in classics and muscle cars. Just like they did when they were 5-10 years-old. So, we're not much different......plus its fun!! :D

also one more thing, most of the fastest and best handling imports have been made from late 80's to late 90's with exception to datsun's which were made earlier, but the point is is that we love a car for the way it performs, not for how new or old

heh... lately I've been wondering how many 240's are left of the amount made total. looking for junked 240's during my search for an engine made me wonder when we're gonna run out, and parts will no longer be available :p

parst will always be availible, just maybe at a price you might not want to pay, because you can get any part from the nissan dealer, also i read something about 6 months ago about a little over 5k 240sx's were made between 97-98 and only 2k were 5 speed not including the ones that have been junked already, so if you like kouki style then grab one up before there gone, i dont know about other years

I dont think that our parts will be parted out anytime in the near future. Years and years. Except mabey MCS14 body panels. Newb drifters will probably kill off all 3,600 or however many were made in a couple years.

yeah, well I think these old Nissan are holding up pretty well, take a good look at the late '80s and early '90 fords and GM cars, most of them are falling apart, and they wonder why imports sell so well.

Well.. consider how many domestic cars there are compared to imports in the US, so for every 2 broken domestics you see, there are a good thousand running perfectly well. (except for Mercury Sables... those things are big POS's, and all my friends drive em... but guess who's stuck fixin' them?)

well i think s 13 will be classics ... though maybe not ones that demand high money, they were good priced rwd sports cars of the time .... but i dont see civics being really anything special unless it is SI

I bought mine because it was the best bang for the buck in the areas I wanted.
And in keeping with the spirit of those early thoughts.

I'm going back to domestics, 1980's f-bodys. I can't take anymore of this SR bullcrap and concerns. I'll just fix the Suspension(Rake, bushings, coilovers) and swap the 305 out and put in a 6 speed LT1 or LT4 or whatever. Ditch some steel for fiberglass, lose some other useless crap. Brake upgrades, SS camaro alloys and Voila, I'm in buisness. 3000 pounds 350 hp 350 ft/lb Front Engine Rear Wheel Drive. I will definitely have a cage in something like that.

I have had my 240 since '95. It was always the second car and lived in NY for a while until I had a place to put it in VA. Then I started doing all the work.

I paid $5400 for her back then and it has been good to me the whole time;)

also, if you get classic tags for your car, you have nooo restrictions. you can do whatever mods you want without being hassled... at least in maryland

i've always heard registering as a classic meant lower insurance and had a mileage limit though?

in iowa anyway my dad has a 38 chevy coupe and a 41 chevy 4 door wagon looking thing, and he pays exactly 38$ a year for insurance total on both, but there is a 7k mile limit and only he cn drive it..so yea.. its pretty sweet deal i believe!

haha, 7000 is less than I drive my daily car in a year.

Historic and Street Rod registrations get HUGE breaks in Maryland. $27 for the tags every 2 years vs. $72 for a normal car.

There's no special insurance requirement here, other states do require special collector car insurance though. If I could get collector car insurance that was ultra-cheap, I would gladly.

Hopefully in 2015 I'll be submitting my request for Street Rod plates :D

The weirdest part of it all... When I started my quest for the under 50k mile kouki S14 SE (Black 5 speed) I was warry of the fact of losing my girl sleepy. I named her sleepy, but not because shes stock on the outside and a beast on the inside. Because shes all stock, but one of my pop up head lights is almost all the way down and looks like shes falling asleep...

Its made me want to cry at the thought of losing her, although I cant wait to have my kouki s-14. But we have had soooooo much fun together and we have this little bond...called the seat belt.

Its a seat belt of love, and recipricol fondeling... I fondle her sexxy smooth steering wheel, and shes all over my butt checks...

did I go too far?

Anyway, im keepin sleepy as a track only car....and well spend the rest of our lives together...cause Ill die on the track... because thats how I want it... :-D

At what point in time do cars become completly exempt from emmisions?? Do "classic cars" have to pass smog in my state??(MN) I don't think so. This is why so many 280z owners do crazy things to their cars like put Individual Throttle Bodies on and so on. It is no longer regulated for them. I personally look forward to the day my car is a "classic," I'll have a bit more freedom in tuning it.:)
