These were all shot at the abandoned Michigan Central Station (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_Central_Station) in Detroit Michigan. All shots taken with at rebel XTi and either sigma 10-20 f4-5.6 lens or canon 70-200L f4

Oh I'm good. I've been using PS for like 10 years. I just wanted to know how much of it was actually the camera. I love those high contrast images. There was an awesome one of a battle beaten silvia running around here. I tried to get a copy for my desktop. Never got a response back.

I'm not sure. I can't remember the name on it. I'm at work right now, but I think I have the image bookmarked at home. I'll check when I get there. It was in one of the picture threads, either in the premie section or off topic. I think it was in that thread with all the high res high contrast photography from members. It was basically a front view pic of a red silvia (I say Silvia, but it was likely a sil40) with a beat up body kit and no hood. It was really contrasty like your pics and had one of those "I'm killing it" stickers across the windshield.

My flickr still has the EXIF data on it, but i use the flickr uploader app, maybe it strips it if you do it through the site?
Also, it only seems to work on the full size (or whatever the original size on the site was)

It's a shame that architecture like that is dead.

How dangerous is it out there doing urban exploration in a big city? I hear there are some amazing locations near me (i live within driving distance of Gary, Indiana) but I'm nervous about the neighborhoods.

Yeah Ive heard some stuff about gary. I'm not to sure about how under budget their police force is there and thats what it comes down to. The top things I worry about are the cops and falling through a bad floor.

shit, I know alot of guys in here would take you up on it...I myself would be one of those guys. If I can take pictures 1/4 of awesome of how yours turned out, i'd be fucking happy...

I just got a question, what lense did you use that caused some of the shots to seem a bit distorted? Im referring to the first pix more than anything else...

Daniel.

He was found by an "urban explorer" taking pics...in the building next door to where these were taken.

Anything you'd like to share with the class...hehe. :)

Ha...

I missed that thread, but just went looking for it.

I saw that on my local news last night here in Florida...they did a quick ~10-second spot on it.

I Google'd "body detroit frozen", and found that link...same one you posted.

hehe...sorry for the repost here, thought I was adding new content.

I'm going to have to disagree. I think it's a damn powerful picture, sort of a sign of the times thing. It was strange in the article too when the reporter mentioned "the ruins of Detroit."

I totally understand your point but imo everyone knows detroit is in shambles this story just seems over the top for personal gain of the reporter not for the dignity of a person frozen in ice. Had that person not been thought of as a bum looking for some copper to steal and had been like a white kid in the wrong place at the wrong time, you would have never seen the picture.

i just dont think its all that shocking. hell, they found a body next door in the train station a couple years ago. they find bodies all over the city. alot of them are homeless people.

Str8 Rippin
01-31-2009, 10:15 AM
Also I'm not above this game of self promotion myself. I profit from takeing pictures of the "ruins of Detroit" but since this is a story about the maintance of human dignity and reaching out and doing what's right I am just pointing something out.
