View Full Version : my car got impounded!!!

Here's what happened: So I'm driving home from work around 10 pm and there's a patrol car in the next lane next to me at a redlight. So it turns green and I start to go shifting at 2k rpm 'cuz my exhaust is kinda loud. so he switches lanes gets behind me and follows me for like a 1/2mile, he then lights me up.:( (i think about going on a high-speed chase for a second, but i then come to my senses and pull over.)
So he asks the usual lic., reg, and ins.(oh wait he didnt ask for ins., cool) It turns out it's some rookie cop in training. (Oh yea i forgot to mention my license is suspended until march)So i tell 'em i don't have a license and the rook searches me and the car. They tell me they pulled me over for a "modified exhaust", but since they got me with a susp. lic. they're gonna have to impound my car. ( i don't want to hear that i deserved it for driving with a suspended license, i have to go to work and don't have a ride, so there) It wasn't so bad after all, i mean it could've been worse I think it's jail time for driving with a suspended lic. which is the 3rd time i do, also he didn't give me a citation for no ins, so it coulda been worse. now im going to have to waste the money i was saving to take out my car from the impound and pay those damn fines $600 for the impound+$250-350 for the fines. oh well.
moral of this story is...don't drive with a suspended license i guess..., although i'll prolly continue to do it.:D
maybe i should have ran, I might have gotten away, maybe:p
oh well next time.

Yeah, but he's in Canada. They probably deal with it a bit different up there.
That sucks--what did you do to get your license suspended in the first place?

California, definitely.
Out of curiosity, why do people complain when they get caught for doing illegal stuff? ie dragging, donuts, driving without a license, driving without insurance, speeding, etc.?
Very rarely is it the cop who's hassling you (not never, because it definitely happens).
9/10ths of all cops out there are just trying to do their job and go home at the end of the day. That job includes citing illegal activity and keeping the streets (and vicariously, other people) safe. There's always going to be that 1/10th of asshole cops out there that are looking to bust your balls. I always make sure I'm not misbehaving (or if I am, i'm doing it in as safe a place as possible) and I'm completely legal to drive (ie, not intoxicated, in possession of my DL and insurance, with current regs on the car, etc), AND I always make sure that I have a valid answer for every question a cop has. I've only been stopped once since I got my license (the once before was while I was learning to drive at age 14), and it was for expired registration. (*slap*).
Finally, I recommend that you NEVER, EVER try to outrun the law. There is NO car faster than a Motorola. They eventually WILL get you, and in the end you're about 10x worse off than before. If you run and happen to get away, you've beat the odds, and will likely not be able to do so again.
This is my .02c. Take it for what it is.
To datkwikracer: see if you cant get a suspended license with restrictions (i.e. driving to/from work, etc. I know this can be done, and it'll save your ass, and your wallet.).

Better watchout when you go to court....Ive seen Judges ask if you had Insurance at the time of the citation...
Ive been in the courts one too many times to know theyll screw you in the end...
I had a cop the cited me for racing and he told the judge that he cited me for exibition, but on the ticket it said speed contest... conflit of stories...cop turned red and started to studder... should be a mistrial right? wrong judge looked at me smiled and changed the violation code to exibition of speed and sent me on my way....morale of the story: never give the cop a reason to pull you over....if that means losing 5 hp over that shiny new exhaust. leave it off.
"its like prison...that **it hurts!!!"
sorry for the loss losing the priviledge to drive hurts....bad...like prison...

That sucks, I know what its like to drive a car on suspended license, and getting my car impounded. There is really nothing you can do, suck it up, take the loss, pay the fines. What really sucks, if you lost your license cause your a drunk, you can get a temp, but if you lose it cause you tend to speed somewhat, the state is like **** you. :-/

My buddy got a ticket once in ontario, california...It was in my car and he didnt have time to go so I had to go to court and pretend I was him...The ticket was for no registration, modified exhaust and having a headlight out (my idiot friend couldnt find the registration in the glove box because he was so nervous, and didnt know that the headlight went out periodically and all he had to do was reflip the switch) So yah I went to court and the judge over there is awesome, all I had to do was show proof of correction and my fine went from about 2 bills to 10 bux. The trip to court was kind of weary though, I mean about 90% of the people in their were busted for drunk driving:rolleyes:

Well ppl have jobs, familys, bills, responsibilities, so you have to do what you have to do. Maybe some ppl should carry booze with them, so when they get pulled over they can slam down some vodka real quick, cause if your drunk you can get a restricted license, so fair

Flame me, I beg of you. This is one situation where I will bitch bug and complain and hope to be flammed.
My pops was a cop for 25 years, seven of which were as a Detective. There by he was a "flat foot" for 18 of those years busting my friends and their parents for stupid $hit. My friend comes up, "Dude your fu*kin Dad arrested me!! What the fu*k?!"
I said, "For what yo?," and he says, "Gettin bent in the woods"
What the fu*k? Why do stupid people complain about geting caught for $hit that is OBVIOUSLY agains the law?! I admit, I have met a fair share of asshole cops, because some people are like that. Imagine if you will John X gets pulled over for DUI. Cop Y pulls him over, but lets him go cause he knows him. Well John X tells all his boys about this crap cause he thinks its mad cool that he's got the Po Po on his side... well soon enough, $hit gets back to Capt. Z about Cop Y. And Cop Y looses his job. That is why they wont let you slide. Because it is THEIR job. If you are driving without insurance and hit someone; what happens to them? Do you know how much a visit to the local ER cost? X-rays? Med? Stitches, cast, re-visits?! All that $hit cost money, just to make that person whole again, because you drove drunk, lost your L's and dont have insurance cause your not suppose to be driving in the first place! What a chain of f*cking events?! Aint that some $hit?!
Its assholes that I am seein in this thread that make me respect cops more than anything. Cause I see what they go through. I get assholes in my face just fixing cars, I can only imagine what its like when he/she tells you to step out of the car. Or when you deny DUI while your still holding the f*cking beer!
What the f*ck kids? If it werent for retarded ass street racers and imature retarded assholes that do donuts in the day light in the macy's parking lot, we wouldnt have to worry about cops bustin you for illegal intakes, or motor swaps. You wouldnt have to swap that KA back in before inspection or tip that dude 200$ to pass.
This is moronic bull$hit, and could have been avoided EASILY. Number one; You could have gotten the RESDL, aka Restircted Drivers Liscence or Number two; dont DUI! How fu*king irresponsible is that $hit?? Who does that? Who can toss 30/40 to get hammered but not 20 to get a safe ride home?
Wanna bash cops, f*cking fine with me. But lets look at it this way, when your $hit got stolen, who'd you call?
The scariest part of it all, That woman that brought you into this world, your mom, gets raped. Are you alone going to find that cum guzzling gutter slut of a human being? Or are you going to call the police because they have a 75% better chance of finding him?
For those of you with kids, if any, what happens when little Zilvia get lost? Gonna call all yoru 20 friends? Riiiiiiight.....
Sure there are retarded laws, but when you break it down kids, they all have a point and serve a purpose. No matter how skewed the reality of your situation is, you know ultimately that you did wrong.

DUH, not really much to flame about, cause its true. People gettign busted in the woods for getting wasted, deserve what they get. I was watching cops the other week, and this guy gets busted for no license and a **** load of drugs, and then he is like "I never did anything wrong". My biggest problem is not with the cops, but the ****ty laws(specially in VA). I remember going to court for a wreckless driving, lossin my license, we tried to get a temporary and the judge said basically it wasnt a dui or alochol related so I had no chance of getting a temp, I asked my lawyer "So If I was a sobbing drunk when I got pulled over, I would of gotten a temp?" He was like ya. Its not the cops fault, they just do their job(and most quite well, except them overly cocky rookies), there job is to enforce the laws that are made. So my problem is not with the cops, but the law makers, for making such a stupid law.
DUIs should be a lost of license, since when drunk the your reactions are slower and your are less attentive and risk the chance of ruining many peoples lives.
I just see it as, you gotta go what you gotta do. ****ty laws like that cause for extreme measures, you cant risk losing your job, going broke and getting in debt because you were speeding alittle bit(and not drunk). Ya, its his fault that he got caught. Should he of done it? Its his call, what does he risk losing?
The judicial system is suppose to be fair, you think its fair for a drunk to keep get a restricted license during his suspension? But the average everyday speeder gets basically a big oh fuggin well. I have yet found a purpose in that, could someone point it out, I must be blind.
BTW, calm down, nothing to get all excitied about ;)

yup im in ontario, california (909), actually dousan36 weren't u at that one z32 meet at the denny's in ontario 'bout a month ago, i think i met u there i showed up in an s10(truck).
That sucks--what did you do to get your license suspended in the first place?
a while back i got a wreckless driving for an accident that wasn't my fault, unfortunately i didn't have witnesses they did. i got a public pretender but he didn't do ****. they supposedly cut a "deal" where i wouldn't be charged with racing (which i wasn't doing) and would be charged with a lesser charge of wreckless driving. it's a long story. but it was suspended for that initially, i got it back, got pulled over for my taillights being out at night even though my headlights were on( i got some electrical problem, hasn't happened in a while though) they got me for no ins on the 240 cuz i had just gotten it the week before. they suspended it again for that and doing 56 in a 45 with no traffic (cops are tough in chino) from september to march, which brings me where i am now.
and to all the haters talking ish, i gotta drive can u imagine not driving, i understand my actions have consequences. but they are my choice, and i choose to drive, i don't drink or speed all that often, i obey all traffic laws and i don't blame the police for doing their job. when i have been pulled over i am always courteous to them and i don't lie to them i understand where they are coming from. even though i've never been let off with a warning, I will continue to treat them like i want to be treated. WITH RESPECT. I'm real big on respect, and i'm not cool with ur reply Gladhatter. If u didn't mean any disrespect by your comment, then my fault i must have read it wrong.

You hit it right on the head. I see people get upset at the police all the time. An example I know of is when two kids wanted to drag race, so they called in a fake shooting at an address across the other end of town, so of coarse the whole police force rushes their and leaves Main Street open without cops. They drag down the street with a few others and a bike cop actually manages to get a few of their license plates. They get their licenses suspended and fines up the wooha, but one of them said, and I quote - "What the **** is their problem? Nobody got hurt"
I have got pulled over 3 times and since I've had my license and each time I have avoided a ticket just because I know you should treat the officers with respect. They're just trying to do their job and make a decent income like you.

I don't wanna flame you here bro, but I'll tell you something. When my audio system got jacked and I knew who did it, did the cops do sh*t when I told them? No. When my car got stolen, did the cops find the people who did it? No. You know why they didn't? Because most of them are too busy pulling people over for modified exhuasts. You may not know this, but those of us who drive (or in my case "drove") cars with as little as window tint and chrome rims know that cops are all over you pulling you over for no reason and trying to find one as they're holding your license and registration. I have nothing against the cops who do the work that we all hear about. But those of them who pull you over based on the fact that your car looks "suspicous" and want to measure the decibels of your exhaust deserve all the flaming we can dish out.
TrueSlide
02-26-2003, 09:14 PM
Well, what do you want them to do? Maybe they should go jack someone else's stereo and give it to you. Its really ****ing hard and near impossible to track down stolen stereo equipment, same with cars, guy in a stolen SUV hit my car, ran and ditched the SUV somewhere, how the hell are the cops gonna get that guy?!?! Magic mirror on the wall? I think not!!
Personally I like them pulling over ppl with modified exhausts and all them stupid little ricers in their DSMs and hondas, its annoying as **** hearing them rev up their stupid exhausts all ****ing day, they are cruizing go through the green light and rev up the motor for no damn reason. Iam sure the cops are just as annoyed as this million db exhaust trend. Most exhausts are not that loud if you drive right, keeping the motor all revved up while cruizing is soo damn annoying. BTW, they make silencers ;)

Did you miss the part where I TOLD THEM WHO DID IT and they still didn't do sh*t??? I don't like noisy ricer exhausts anymore than anyone else, but cops should have better things to do... correction, they DO have better things to do, it's just that most of them don't want to bother doing them. I've had enough run ins with cops where i hadn't done anything wrong to form an opinion which you will not change. How many times have you had cops on your ass for no reason?
TrueSlide
02-26-2003, 09:31 PM
Just telling them "who(or u think) did it" isnt really enough to work with.
And what better things to they have to do? Solve murders? Arrest bad guys? Well they do that, don't you ever have time for a break? Like when no one is ordering burgers or fries do you just stand their? or find something else to do? When the cops are not busy, would you rather them eat donuts and hang around in Sheetz or "harass" the threatning drivers that could indanger the life of you, your friends, family, whatever. And WE ALL KNOW, that when most of the parents of them highschool fairys buy them a exhaust they feel like they are john force and speed and try to play speed racer in traffic.
I have never had the cops on my ass for no reason, only on my ass when I broke the law. Iam not saying all cops are high and mighty, some Iam sure abuse their power.

For anyone else that might be interested, the people that stole my system are one of the most popular car audio shops in San Francisco and have ripped off HUNDREDS of cars that they worked on, some people have even been jacked TWICE after they went back after the first time to get it redone there (Yea, I know, that's pretty ignorant). The owner of the shop is also pretty deep in the asian mafia. The cops not only didn't catch anyone, they didn't even investigate. Hmm, not a big enough story for them I guess. I mean, it's just citizens losing thousands of dollars to a scam with ties to the mafia. That hardly compares to ILLEGAL WINDOW TINT

AARGGGG! COPS-- hahaaha
I like cops to an extent- but when it comes to them going on power trips pullin people over cuz they have nice cars or cuz your not white or because your young and have a nice car- thats ****in ridiculous-happens TOO OFTEN-- that ****es me off- and thats' how i've lost my license- I have never drink and drove- I don't do stupid **** like street race, or rev my car at other cars- I don't burnout-- but nooo- cuz I'm japanese- young- and have a nice car with a kit.. OMFG-- I get pulled over for every lil stinkin goddamn sh*t-- ****es me off to hell- and I've lost my license twice for it cuz in NJ any mod to ur car is illegal..and I can't get insurance anymore!!! and all that.. and if you live in jersey- you will kno how hard it is to get to work- friends and shoppin when you don't have a license- hate those cops-
yes- I have had cool cops that are nice enough to let me go when I have a suspended license since I do have to drive to work- because they look at my record(see all the stupid **** I've gotten tickets for)- listen and understand that I am trying to live a normal life and I have a nice car becuase it is my hobby-
But WAY TOO MANY COPS ARE DI*K HEADS.. yup-- sorry- its a fact to me now- no matter how nice and polite you are - they'll give you 5 tickets for improper lighting- wing on car- not enough tread on tires- car too low..etc.... all that stupid ****.. I'm so tired of it.. so for all you people that know what I'm talkin bout- I hear ya and know what your goin through...
arrrggg-- my insurance because of these cops was last at $8200 a year-- and I HAVE NO DUI's OR any drug related offenses-- RETARD SH*T!! - I have no more insurance- and now I'm trying to figure which state to get another license and insurance at too..

Okay, I know Iam too "n00bish" here to be starting arguements or conflicts or whatever, but I had a problem with your post blaqsilvia. You seem to only want to think within your circle and think nothing you do is wrong, lets for a moment step outta your world and examine your post:
but when it comes to them going on power trips pullin people over cuz they have nice cars or cuz your not white or because your young and have a nice car- thats ****in ridiculous-happens TOO OFTEN-- that ****es me off- and thats' how i've lost my license
You cannot loose your license for having a "nice car" and ethnic background hardly has anything to do with why they pulled you over. You loose your license by getting so many moving violations(speeding, illegal turns, etc.). So your "age" and "nice car" didnt loose your license.
have never drink and drove- I don't do stupid **** like street race, or rev my car at other cars- I don't burnout-- but nooo- cuz I'm japanese- young- and have a nice car with a kit..
Look at it this way: Its night, cop is sitting on the side of the road with his lazer on, scanning traffic, some car comes flying by him sets his laser into a frenzy, all he sees is a black nissan 240sx, its dark, the cop decides he needs to this person pulled cause that type of driving is not acceptable.
Do you honestly think they can see what color someone is at night, when a car flies by breaking the speed limit? I think not, or even when they are cruizing behind you, its hard to tell what color someone is by looking through the backwindow.
and I've lost my license twice for it cuz in NJ any mod to ur car is illegal..and I can't get insurance anymore!!!
This one, I just laughed at while reading. Well ****, ever thought about stop putting illegal mods on car? That might stop the tickets  and Iam sorry, Iam sure VA is more strict about insurance, and as far as I know, you cannot get in trouble for any type of non moving violations(exhaust, rims, springs, kits, etc) but only moving violations(speeding, wreckless driving, illegal turns).
Cops are only "cool" if they let you off for something you did wrong?
But WAY TOO MANY COPS ARE DI*K HEADS.. yup-- sorry- its a fact to me now- no matter how nice and polite you are - they'll give you 5 tickets for improper lighting- wing on car- not enough tread on tires- car too low..etc.... all that stupid ****.. I'm so tired of it..
Well GENIUS, stop putting illegal **** on your car!!!!!!
arrrggg-- my insurance because of these cops was last at $8200 a year
Its not to cops fault for your bad driving.
and I HAVE NO DUI's OR any drug related offenses
Speeding, wreckless driving, and a handful of other violations go against your record!!!!!
RETARD SH*T!!
Only your driving.
This is gonna sounds mean, why dont your get your head out your ass for a minute and realize it is YOU that is doing wrong and you are recieving the consequences for breaking the law.

but when it comes to them going on power trips pullin people over cuz they have nice cars or cuz your not white or because your young and have a nice car- thats ****in ridiculous-happens TOO OFTEN-- that ****es me off- and thats' how i've lost my license
<b>
couple of things trueslide-
1- obviously you don't live in NJ
2- so definitely you don't know all the laws in NJ(ask people in nj- the one state you can't legally modify your car at all)
3- yes you can lose your license from lots of lil stupid tickets because most of em come with 2 points- 6 times comes pretty quick within a few months if u have to drive everyday and cops pull u over once a week cuz a couple of them have a hardon for my car --
4- in nj- you can only have a ticket reduced or dropped twice in a 5 year period
5-I have no speeding tickets
6-in NJ- they give out careless drivin for stupid sh*t like - QUOTE " I saw you go around that yield sign just a lil too fast..." mind you- no radar and I went past the yeild sign like a rolling stop which is legal.. looked both ways and 5mphs.. too fast and careless? I don't think soo.. but the judge understood but legally could not have it reduced.. how messed up..
7-you are not me.. and also if you were picked on and profiled- you would prolly get p*ssed.. so think of that get your head outta ur ass.. heh

Hey there assclown, get off your high horse for a second. First of all, I DO HAVE EVIDENCE. Second of all, they didn't even investigate, much less actually arrest the guys. On the topic of the other guy and getting pulled over based on things other than what u'r doing wrong, you obviously are clueless. If you think for a second that cops don't pay way more attention to modified cars (and I don't mean illegally modified cars) you're ignorant as all hell. They actually follow you around running your plates and waiting for you to so much as stop at a red light two inches into the crosswalk. Now, since you know nothing of this topic, DON'T ARGUE IT. If you've been fortunate and never been "profiled" by cops due to the type of car you drive, then shut the hell up and count your lucky stars.

I have to agree. Some police departments spend way too much time pulling people over for "cosmetic offenses". Around me there is a cruise spot where people go, chill out, and hang in the parking lots (also give a lot of business to the local fast food places). It's a one mile stretch that the police have from 9-13 cars on at any one night!! Majority of the people get pulled over for things like windshield washer LEDs, tint, and exhaust. Come on, don't they have something better to do.. like stop the DUI that has killed quite a number of people I know.

Zero tolerance policy.
Why do some departments enforce a zero tolerance policy? It is because of illegal street racing. When certain cities have huge street racing gatherings two times a week, they get tired of being called out to control that isht...all the complaints from people regarding fixed up cars driving recklessly make them do it. If the complaints keep coming in, the city thinks the police are not doing their job. If the job isn't getting done and things aren't getting fixed, people get fired. Therefore, zero tolerance policies are adopted. It's their job to enforce the law...believe it or not, but many cops are motorheads too.
We can thank 'ricers' and people who participate in that isht for that.
In SoCal, it's best to stay out of Carson, Ontario, and San Diego. They have some of the strictest policies as far as modified cars go.
