So i'm in Hohenfels, Germany for the next few weeks with the Military. So far I landed at the airport and got a bus ride to the base. I'm already lovin this place, and havent even seen much of it. The roads are REALLY nice over here and the few german chicks i've seen are gorgeous!!!

Well i'm a getting a 24 hr. pass pretty soon. I wanted to know if anyone can recomend any good places to eat, check/hang out, grab a beer and so forth? Dont have much time so just trying to see what I can get accomplished in these 24 hrs. besides drinking a few good beers at the end of the night.

So if you know a spot and what to throw in your own :2c:, i would appreciate it.

Enjoy your time there bro!

Tell me about it. I have a friend that lives here in Germany. She is gorgeous!!! She visits So Cal every summer and every other New Years. Hope fully we can meet up. Only bad thing is its a 12 hour round trip from where I'm at and I only have 24hrs to be out and about. I might have her come down to my location instead.:w00t:

I was stationed at Sembach Air Base long ago and I loved it. It was a great starting point to go explore castles and soak in the rich heritage of what Germany had to offer.

Try the local brews. Just about every town has their own brewery. The beer is made in small batches and thus it will taste better that way.

Austria was rad too. The women in the Alps are fucking hot!

another thing about Germany...

the country itself is very beautiful.

take pictures, lots of pictures

of architecture, landscapes, etc.

you will rarely find such a mix of old world and new world feel.

hope you have fun!

I live in Germany.

Where you're going, the closest "big" city is Nürnberg (Nuremberg).

Transportation: Public transportation is very comprehensive in Germany and relatively cheap. The only thing is that some bus/train lines don't run really late at night. Make sure you check the routes before you end up in BFE with no way back to base.

Weather: you're looking at a lot of rain and overcast skies...which sucks.

Food: Döner kebaps and pizza are your best bet if your out on town. Expect to pay 3-7 Euros for a typical meal. Remember, drinks are usually served in 0,33 L bottles and most restaurants don't not have a refill policy. Also, most places charge extra if you want to take the drink with you.

Communication: The majority of Germans speak English so you shouldn't have too many problems getting around.

Since you're in the military you'll be given more specific info during your arrival briefing.

One last thing, emergency numbers. Dial 110 for police and 112 for the fire dept./paramedics.

If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me via PM.

Good luck and have fun!

As soon as its hot outside try the "Italian" ice cream. You'll never want to buy american ice cream again.

Germany has interesting food. mostly it's a love it or hate it affair. IIRC, you can usually get decent german fare at the beer halls "Beer-garten" or something like that. Some of my favs include roasted pig's knuckle, weiner-schnitzel (breaded pork cutlets), spatzel (dumplings). For the sausages, try the bockwurst (pork & veal sausages). it's not the most refined fare, but its goes great with beer!

Try to ask around the base, websites, and/or locales about good food in town. Really have to visit there again sometime.

FRIES - Are you referring to Gelato?
