so three days ago my car all of a sudden died on me while i was driving. put it in nuetral and rpms went down to zero. popped 4th gear and ran again as if nothing had happened. then died again minutes later. long story short, got it towed home and now i cant start it.
background info: i lowered the car bout a week ago and found out that my wheel were rubbing against my body harness and got to two black wires that even showed the wire itself. i taped them up individualy and tucked them away clear from being touched by the tire again.
i searched and found this thread: http://zilvia.net/f/engine-tech/196827-89-ka24e-runs-fine-but-cuts-out-randomly.html
i thought that i had the same prob as the guy so i replaced my distributor cap and rotor, changed out the ignition coil, even replaced the fuel filter, and still wont start. it'll turn but wont start.
so my friend came over tonight and tried to help me out. we tested for spark but saw none. after i had replaced the distributor cap and rotor, we got the engine TDC and positioned the rotor where it should be (pointing straight up, slightly to the right). we tried starting it and still nothing. we even tried push starting it but wouldnt work.
any insight on this issue would be dandy
if it helps, its a 91 dohc coupe manual

and i forgot to add before: NTB checked the battery and alternator and they're both good. the batt. was actually changed 2 months ago so its def still good
im going to see if it'll work if i try someone elses ecu, i just think that theres nothing even coming to the ignition coil

I want to help you, but before i can, i will need to know the following information....
-does it crank?
-when you turn the ignition on, can you hear your fuel pump prime?
- if you have an volt meter, or test light, check to see if you are getting power at your mass air flow sensor (black wire w/white stripe).

yes it cranks and with my newly charged battery, it also backfired at me once.
yes, the pump primes
and yes, there's power to the MAF
anything else?

Stupid question but did you run out of gas?
LOL that happened to me once.

lol no im not out of gas, i had just filled it up like a day or two before this happened, its actualy nearly full
well to add on the list of stuff i did, i borrowed an ECU from my friend and plugged it in. it's doing the same but i feel like it helped a little. like when i turn it, its like it sparked once and then none after that..
cud it be a relay to the coil that went bad maybe??

Did you check your fuel pump relay?
I replaced mine on my car and that fixed my problem.
Or maybe the fuel pump is dying out? I dunno just throwing ideas out.

well i've checked all my relays and none of them are bad and i can hear my pump priming so im pretty sure its getting fuel to the engine. i'll hear it and then after a couple of seconds it'l stop
this is kinda random but cud it by any chance be my starter?? my friend had the same issue and it got solved by changing the starter. but my engine cranks so idk, just putting that out there cuz ive tried everything i know...

If its cranking thats not it. It really sounds like something shorted as a result ot your harness. even if you taped it up, all you had to do was drive through some water or something.
First thing i would do is see if your friends car will run with your ecu. if it does, switch ignitors with your friend and check that. if thats not it, its your harness.

ok, im really starting to think that it IS my harness cuz i just checked my ecu (with the LED light flashing a certain number of times for the corresponding digits) for what codes its throwing at me and it threw 55 which is "no malfunction recorded"
ugh... anyone happen to have one for me?

so to end this thread, my car works now
my dad had it towed to kwik car and found out that it wudnt start cuz the timing was off 180 degrees and it was flooded. so they took the injectors out and ran the motor till all the fuel was out of the engine and timed the distributor again and now it runs
the guys at kwik car cudnt find out what the problem was but said that i had probably fixed it and not knew cuz, u know, the engine wudnt start. but anyhow, glad my baby's working and it rocks!
thanks for all your help everyone!!!

congrats on fixing the vehicle. but i dont see how your car was even running in the first place considering it was 180 degrees off. did you smell gas in your oil?
sounds like the repair shop wanted to make some additional money
