no offense to anyone on here....... i was just wondering, what makes you guys put so much money into your 240s...... when you could just by a 350z. i just asked this question because i love both 240s and the z33....and im having a hard time trying to decide on.......... trading in my ep3 hatch for a z or just saving up for a s14 with my extra money and trading my si for a luxury sedan as a daily beater hince 2000 gs300. im caught in the crosshairs and im wondering which would be more rewarding.........what do you guys think, any input on why you guys choose the 240sx over the 350z

Do you have down syndrome or did you just own a honda before?
The car is up to you, I own a SUburu Sti and have a 240 as my play car.
I can build a INCREDIBLE 240sx that can rape almost anything for the least amount compared to any other car.
240 - CHEAP, RWD, Stylish Body, Good Aftermarket Backup, and did I say CHEAP?
10,000 into a 1,500 dollar 240sx versus 30,000 for a 350z.
240sx wins. I just saved myself 20,000 dollars.

Most of us are poor and can only afford a 240sx. :naw:

you make it seem as though 350z are as easy to come by as a thousand dollar 240.

to a lot of people, the prices 240s go for is pretty high.
and i totally agree with sti guy, its really easy to out perform an expensive car with only a fraction of the money.

I can crash my 240 into a wall and be like O WELL time to buy a new one.
If I crashed a 350z I would be a DUMBASS and would surely end my life shortly after.

Because 240sx's have back seats....
yup, they are useful if you have friend who is a midget with no legs...
people buy 240sx cause we dont spend more than 20k AT ONE SHOT, at least not most of us... we buy them "cheap" and start upgrading everytime we can save up for what we want... not like a 350z which is a monthly payment most of the times... not many of us can afford a monthly payment on a car, and the ones who can prefer most of the time to buy something they can dailydrive(like a pickup or a sedan for work or people who have a family) with no problem while upgrading slowly theyre 240sx...
that's the most common reason i have seen myself...

I personally like the look of the 240SX (S13/S14) better then the 350Z (z33). And as Driven08 said, I couldn't afford it even if i wanted to.

wait a minute............... your screen name is drifta_z but you drive a honda?
its all on what you like best. i love my 240 and i always wanted one since an uncle bought one new in 93. i like the Z33 and can now afford one but i'll just stick to my 240 and dump money into it. i know that i wont get what i put into it but that doesnt matter to me. i'm only doing it because i love my car. some people might think its dumb but i could care less. they should worry about what they do. do what you want. if you dont think its smart to put money into a 240 than dont do it.

240:
Good - CHEAP, stylish, lots aftermarket parts, fun to drive, and again CHEAP!!
Bad - Old, KA are slow (stock), hard to find for now
350Z:
Good - Girl likes it, better handle, faster
Bad - insurance are high, gas money, has transmission porblem, no back seats, and everyone has one
Me.. I'm thinking about selling my 240sx and get a 06 EVO GSR...

its a relativley easy car to find , dirt cheap in some cases , if your on a budget you have few options , ...... in the case of a track car (drifting) your gonna crash ....its only a matter of time ..... 350 wouldnt be my first choice , plus its got a goofy looking interior , .... g35 ... my personal weapon of choice..... if i had the cash.

im on my 8th 240 now. since i was about 15 i have always wanted one. something about the car just did it for me. i didnt know too much about it till i was about 17 when i bought my first. i had an 89 sohc 5 speed fastback 2 years ago. BONE STOCK, i was the 2nd owner of that car, low mileage clean as hell. i use to straight up cruise that car everywhere. i go so many compliments on that car even with the stock tear drop wheels haha

i didnt buy it because it looked cool, or because it was a hot car, i only wanted a cheap rwd car that i could track for pretty cheap. now i cant afford anything else haha. plus all ive done to it hasn't cost the price of a 350z. if you really want one, though, i'd wait for a few months for people to start picking up the 370z, the 350 will drop in value pretty soon.

I know with my 240, i can take out most cars on the track, from BMW Ms, to 350zs to poorly driven vettes. lol. its also fun, reliable, and cheap to fix if it does go down.
Z = usually driven by cocks. Z33 owners are better then Z32, but sometimes not by much.
If you want to be a cock and drive a car, get an M3, does better on the track

There wasn't a 350Z in 1995, simple. The 300ZX back then wasn't affordable, was heavy, and was an absolute fuck to work on. The 240SX was none of those.
That's like asking why didn't you bang a supermodel in kindergarten, she was probably ugly back then and you had no way of knowing she'd grow up to look hot and make millions.
Another stupid, pointless thread.

Z33 = $19,000+ for a decent used one
S13/S14= less than $3,000 stock, and you can put another $10k into it have a car that is better than a 350z and will out run one as well, cheap car to insure because it isn't new

because you cant have sex in a 350z. and they're ugly little shits too. on the other hand, 240s are sexy beasts. if you build a 240 its a cheap way to learn a little about cars and engines and suspension and mad driving skillz.

Are you prepared to bust knuckels turning wrenches on the 240. Or are you going to pay someone to work on it? People spend money and TIME on these cars because there is a strange attraction to them, not becuase there cool. Buy a 240 because you need one not becuase you want one.

do you think you be able to get a new 350z shell like 240sx?

Ep3... seriously? you cant get shit for a trade on that egg. 240's are a more logical choice. $30 g's on a Z and then spend more on expensive ass parts that you cant afford cause you bought a Z hhmmmm or get a fun, lighter weight car, more gas mileage, less common then a Z so you wont look like every over 40 mid-life crisis guy on the street, and parts are cheaper so you will be able to drive a moded car and still be able to pay for dates LOL oh I love Z's but I dont want to pay it off for the rest of my life. Just my :2c:

Ah your talking down to one of the more respected members here on the forum. A person that if you did buy a 240 and you asked nicely would dispense more information about it in his pinky than you could possibly have in a lifetime.
In effect your question was not very well thought out on your part. People buy cars especially sports cars because they have a passion around them or desire them for a specific reason. In a sense you could have studied the community and come to the answer for your question without even asking it.
Most of this thread is peppered with answers from new schoolers. I do not think a lot of new schoolers really answer the question properly.
For instance the person that claimed 350Z's have transmission problems. That is completely hearsay based on a problem that only happened in early 2003 350's. Oh and 2007's had a slave clyinder issue that became a tech bulletin and warrantied. As did the 2003 issue.
Any used 350Z bought today will not have those issues as the previous owner will already have dealt with them.
Back to 240's though. A majority of us bought these because they were affordable RWD sports cars not recent but even back in 90's. There were not many options MR2? handled well but was unforgiving also not nearly as inexpensive. RX7's handled well but were not inexpensive. Miata's handled great, but were underpowered pretty much are kinda impratical beyond driving just like the MR2. 240's handled great from the factory in fact had a .89 skidpad rating just 2 points under the C5 and C6 Corvette. Had room to put stuff in back if need be i.e. extra set of tires and wheels for going to the track.
Had the spirit of the 240Z, but with modern qualities. Looks weren't bad either.
Oh did mention some of us are life long NIssan fans? Some of the assholes here will rip on you for being a life fan of Nissan vehicles but the fact is the company builds great cars and has so on and off for over 50 years.
240's today? Its the broke kid getting into cars dream. he can lowball people for parts and due to the economy probably get them. In the end to do it right though he winds up spending more than he ever thought he would and builds a nice car. Or he stays broke and drives a primered piece of shit with shitty $500 coilovers and sportcrap wheels and a welded diff.
Honestly a lot of the older 240 owners are or have moved on to 350Z's some buy G35's but those are bigger and heavier than the 350Z imo. A g35 lover will probably come and say I am full of shit. Tell that to all the tuners in Japan where the 350 is huge vs the G.
You should be asking yourself, how much money do I have to devote or spend on a car. This will determine if you should buy a Z over a 240. Its all subjective.

you know its all about personal preference. what you like, what you are looking for. what you want to get out of it. etc.
I know that i enjoy my car, its fun, its not brand new. its for me to enjoy not for other people. i worked at nissan, drove the 350z, in auto and manual. I thought yeah its a nice car, but my car feels damn well faster, quicker, and handles alot better. sure i might not of spend 30k nor do i have a new car, but seriously who are you trying to impress? once you get past all those outside insecurities, and make decisions based on what you want, then, and only then can you feel good about what you do.
don't listen to anybody on here. before you buy something make sure it is what YOU want/need. look up maslow's law..

hahahahahaha, wow that shit was funny....
1. cheap insurance
2. cheap aftermarket
3. cheap initial cost
4. cheap engines
5. cheap repairs
6. cheap performance
7. cheap tires (sizes)
8. cheap bodywork (fenders, bumpers)
9. Cheap tickets (got a ticket for 110 in a 60, told the DA i drove an 11 yr old nissan 4cyl economy car that couldnt possibly go that fast, she dismissed it)
Need any more reasons?
