Is the VLSD all that great? Or would just welding my spider gears in my differential be the way to go?

Have you done any research?

Do you know how a VLSD works?

Have you read through any of the MANY threads dealing with differentials on Zilvia?

If the answer to any of these is "No", then you should not have started a Thread.

NEW vlsd's are ok for mild performance driving

the problem is that all of them are OLD now

Well I have a good amount of positve & negative feedback on the vlsd & my friend has one but he doesn't really seem to like it so I would like to hear someones personal option that's all I want to know.... I'm not trying to get burned on it...

"not trying to get burned..." a bit late for that. there are a load of threads about this. read and add something constructive to the discussion before you start a new thread about an old topic.

To begin: As a Zilvian I have to bash you for starting a thread in which said topic has been covered maybe 500x in this Forum.

I will humor the question though:

Save tires and go with a VLSD. Just don't get one from too high mileage car and you should be fine. I got mine from a 95' Canadian Model S14 with like 90k on the odometer and it works great! :)

Ok well thanks for the positive feedback & next time I'll search a thread so I don't have to waste peoples time.....

Use this http://zilvia.net/f/chat/165576-new-240sx-bible-vol-2-unifinished.html, then ask questions later if it doesn't help.
What everyone is trying to tell you is don't be lazy!

Choosing a diff should be based on what YOU are going to use your car for. Track Slut, Grip, drift, daily driver, weekend track racer, garage paper weight/space user? What are you going to do with your car, only you know this!!

+1 for using the old diff as a garage paper weight, in my case i gutted it out and used the "pumpkin" as a pot for a plant :)
