View Full Version : People at junkyards.

You guys ever have problems when you hit the junk yards? Besides the guys working the front gate going through my socket set thinking I'm sneaking parts INTO the junk yard, I've never had any issues with people. The occasional guy borrowing a certain size socket aside, I usually never even have people speak to me there.

Today was different. Vegas only has one pick-your-part style junk yard left as the other one "forgot" to pay for it's license. The last surviving one is usually pretty crowded and it's usually pretty hard to find parking.

Well, a buddy and I were after some random Z31 and S-chassis parts. I always leave empty handed as there's usually only 1-3 SOHC S13 at any time in there. We get everything we can find from Z31s that he needs and I get a IATS off the only S13 there today. We are headed for the exit when I spot a Q45 that had not been raped yet. I grab a tire tool from the Z31 next to it and bust the wheels off the thing so I could get the brakes.

Looking back, I should have had him go to the other side and start on the other front, but I figured if someone saw me after the brakes, they would leave well enough alone. Wrong. Some guy started removing the driver side front while my buddy and I were getting the passenger side brakes off. I told him we were after the whole brake setup and all I got was Spanish in return. I finished the front passenger side, went to the rear driver side and started there and the guy gets an attitude with me, starts yelling at me. This guy can go to hell. I ask a guy walking passed if he speaks english and I get him to tell this guy that he's not getting the parts I already pulled and he can get lost, with or without the caliper he already pulled.

This fucking guy had the balls to go get security and told them we were taking parts he already picked! Think the two hispanic security guys that came back believed an italian guy or a filipino? Hell no. When they told us we had to give this guy our Q45 brakes, I told em to eat a dick.

Not only did we get escorted out, we had to give our brakes up. Then, to make matters worse, I get outside to find Metro waiting for us. They say they have a report of two men trying to intimidate other customers out of parts. A half hour conversation/lecture from two asshat cops later, we get to leave.

Sorry for venting, just wanted to know if anyone else gets this, expecially in Vegas.

I haven't had too much of an issue before. Sometimes I find ppl searching for the same parts but they usually let me get it and I help them find it from another car. I only saw one 240 hatch yesterday when I went for the front side marker sockets. Shit was gone. Selection sucks ass in that junkyard. I'm about to start going to cali and raping theirs.

For the record, my first thought was to toss em, but there were just too many people there. I would have definetly hit someone with at least one of them.

Amen. A few of us might have to get together and take weekend trips to Cali for parts runs lol.

if you're doing the whole buddy system you have to make sure one's the lookout on scavengers. people are ruthless at yards so this doesn't surprise me. not worth getting confrontational about in my opinion though.

A few years ago when I was 17 or 18, this old guy working at one of the local junkyards was always really nice to me and even gave me discounts. I just assumed he was a cool guy, until one day as I was already in the parking lot getting ready to leave, he ran out after me and handed me a really creepy letter he wrote to me.

After that, I haven't gone back there for at least a year. Luckily I don't think he works there anymore.

that all most qualifies for a required ass beating. That kind of bullshit would never fly on the east coast. I would have flipped the fuck out if some body pulled that. English speaking or not, blood would have been spilled

I've only had one McAsshole try to pull a stunt like that.

I was pulling off a driver headlight assembly when all of a sudden this guy come out of nowhere and starts pulling off the passenger. I tell him what they hell and he acts like he couldn't hear me and just takes off with the part.

Isn't it junkyard etiquette that if someone is working on a car they basically have dibs on it?

Never happen to me
but then I again I'm Latin and speak the language,
am 5'11" with a decent build
and usually go with friends
People usually ask what else I'm taking when I'm on a car
Most annoying thing that happens
is people with radios blasting Rancheras and
sometimes being asked if X part will work with X car.
Lately I've been meeting more 240 people at the yards
and having a decent chats with them.

^ Dude, same here. Recently I keep meeting 240 owners left and right at the yards I goto. Funny thing is when I see them leave they're usually always in a CRX or an EG hatch lol.

I see that happen in yards here once in a while but personally I've never experienced it. Ours usually are flooded with South Africans more so that Mexicans, and they're all really small guys. I'm 6'2", 210, and I always have a pry bar in one hand no matter what I'm doing. If you come off as being a sonbitch they usually get the point and steer clear of that entire row until you're done. It's common etiquette to wait if someone is on a car but people get so ramped up over that one part they need they forget, being a dick about what you're doing always cements the message that you were there first.

you guys are lucky you even have pick a part type junkyards, over here in ct there arent any i know of. everything is done on computers and they never have what youre looking for. the shitty attitude is usually free though.

You just have to stay on top of things at the yard.
Its like being in a shitty neighborhood.
Your safe, but keep your eyes open.
Make sure you can see your tools at all times.

And the mexican guys are there everyday and make a living selling or recycling parts or whatever the fuck they do with all that shit they pull.
so they will always win an argument.

That metro part is fucking rediculous though.
i would have had my authority issues arise and told metro to cuff me or fuck themsleves cause I am not listening to there bullshit.
"go get your fucking home life together and stop lecturing me you fucking hipocite" lol
yeah, I can loose it with the 5-0. :)

lmao thats funny man.^^ i personally never had any issues around where i live. IN matter in fact, all the yards are low key and first come first serve. I dont like the ones that are computer based. One yard wont let me take parts without paying first.(over priced) I have like 3 yards that i can pull things like crazy and is so cheap! maybe i never get hassled becuase i myself am a mexican...

On a good note i once lost my wallet at a yard and somebody found it and gave it to the owner and got it back. Sooo a good experience for me...great ppl around my area. Oh btw everything was there and i never carry cash unless i am going out somewhere that only accepts cash.

damn that's jacked up what a bunch of assholes. I've never had anything like that happen usually if people see that I'm grabbing some parts they will come up to me and ask if I intend on taking a part they are interested in.

never had any problems at the yards here in LA most of the time people respect you if your already on a particular part on the car. In fact when I see people on a car already I usually move on to other cars and come back later. Sometimes they may be going after stuff and not even realize they are missing things. Do not need to alert them to stuff they are missing then they will want to claim it.

i get that shit all the time here. i was at pick your part a few months ago and i saw a nice set of 17's. so i show up early the next day to get them. im just busting off the wheel locks when i see some other guy trying to take off the other side. being pretty fluent and removeing wheels locks with now key..i get 3 off and he is still on his one. he stops and looks at me and hes like "uhhh i kinjda had my name a number on these" he had actually written his name on them.... so i say tough luck buddy. and he fucks off. but before he left he took a center cap with him so i guess he could really stick it to me. some people really need to grow up.

i was at a junkyard today. came across a 99 maxima, spanish guy pulling stuff from the interior.

i checked out the brakes and started pulling them and we both just went about our business. not even a glance. looking back maybe i shouldve asked but he didnt say or do anything when i started popping calipers off so ohwell.

then i went back across the yard to get the altima rotors i was tired of carrying out of a trunk i stashed them in.

Never had a run in with a person like that. That shits lame..........

Junkyard I still go to fucked me back in the day. I used to go there to get turbos (back in 98-00) T3, T3 super 60s T25 and whatever else I could sell. I used to sell them on ebay and make 50 to 200 profit on them. I used to walk out of there with 4 to 5 turbos a month then one day went in and found every new car coming in the lot that was turbo had the manifolds torched off and turbos were gone. Never saw a turbo in there for another year or so so I stopped looking. Now I just try to find goofy shit I can use or shit I know im going to need in the future.

Never had a problem like that around here. Usually, if someone's already at the car, I'll make some small talk and get around to seeing if they're picking a part I want. Sometimes I wont. People will speak up you you're trying to get something they wanted. No problem, they were there first.

One rule that I always stick to when I'm at the 'yard: Never let anyone borrow tools. I'm a nice dude that used to let people borrow some tools until one time when some guy didn't return a good pair of vicegrips. Ever since then, I never loan out tools. I usually say I'm using them or I don't have them. I learned my lesson.

Never had any problems, i usually do a walk around the lot to see what they have before taking parts off a car.. If someone is already at a car, usually the walk around will give them enough time to be done with that car.

Just sucks when people break shit just to get to a part. esp interior plastics and trim pieces..

always watch your tools, always use the buddy system, and you won't have problems.

oh and one time a dude kept trying to sell me a gold chain in the parking lot. also some guy borrowed my duct tape on the way in, and said he'd put it under my car. no duct tape when i came back. mother FUCKER.
