Q: Why am I afraid of the accelerator?
A: because at 7psi on snowtires it's hard to keep the car straight in 2nd gear.

Rather than digging up the old DIY thread(s) I'm just starting this one. It's a different subject anyways really.

So, after drilling a hole in my head, blowing up my original turbo, and getting at most of the bugs in the system, I ran 7psi today.

First impression: wtf.... where'd 2nd gear go?

Second impression: wtf is the speedo doing at 100mph?

Third impression: i need to install the Q45 brakes asap.

Yeah, it's THAT fast, at just 7psi. How boosteds14 and d240t2 and whoever else has a turbocharged KA can deal above that is beyond me....
That said... next week I'll be resetting the wastegate for 8psi, and possibly getting a starion FMIC and see if my turbo will support 10psi. If not, I'll upgrade to a 14b for the 10psi runs untill I can get the fuel pump and FPR for the 4 bar fuel system.

Total cost including all the mishaps is probably around $1500. Hoping to be at 10psi "reliably" with a cost under $2000..... we'll see how it goes. Right now I've spent about the equivolent of intake ($200), header ($400), exhaust($500), pulley ($100), and cams ($500 at courtesy for a pair of 248's), with a lot more to show for it in my opinion.

So, after everything, and at the moment, it's all worth it.

Well...the problem is...it does feel fast as hell even at 5psi...at first. Eventually, you get used to it...and turn it up to 7, then you get used to that, and turn it up to 10, and so on. It never ends.

I had ~2yrs to get used to 5psi...so I planned for more the second time I built a turbo car...

Well, at like 4psi and 5psi it was nice but not really fast as hell.... maybe it's just my small ass turbo doing that. Hope I'm at least comfortable with the car by autoX season :P

Yeah, I messed up the old turbo when the compressor wheel nut came off. The new one is a just a new centersection with my old housings. I bought a good condition Starion turbo for $80 locally. Gonna get the intercooler from the same car I think :D

hey ace I got a question, your saying your going to autocross your car right? What class will you end up in? This is starting to concern me with the start of the season as well since this will be the first season for me with my 240 and Ill be boosting too. Other than that congrads man. Glad to see that your car is up and working agian. Heads working good and all?

I'll end up in SM. If it's your first season you'll be grouped with the modified novice cars (assuming you choose to run novice, which doesn't hurt) even though you might be running with the SM group.

The head is working awesome. Great response, no problems so far.

Nice to hear everything is going smoothly (well sort of), have fun with your car, you soon will get addicted to boost, just hopefully don't take it too far and mess up all that work. Good luck in street mod, how good do you think you are going to do, honestly? I ask becuase eventually (like +1 years) I will hopefully have some sort of boosted 240 and just want to know how they would do in SM.

lol, give it another month and 7psi is goin to be slow to you

before u know it, you will start getting prices on pistons and rods and a bigger fuel system

hell, i got tired of 10psi in about 3 weeks, then bought pistons and rods and fuel system and now i hit 26-28psi.

but ill be honest with you, once you hit 25psi, you dont want it goin any faster and you never get tired of romping on the gas in 3rd gear and the tires letting loose

dude, stop down at the store, i got to check out this KA-T
i mean com'on now, your family now since you got a KA-T

A friend of mine ran SM last season with an NA 240, since he was hoping to get the turbo in during the summer. Since the turbo didn't get done untill after the season, he ended up never running a turbo 240 in SM. Even so, he did pretty well. I'm guessing he'll do even better with a turbo.... I hope I can follow suit, too.

LoL... too late... already looked for some pistons and rods and an extra KA to build up on the side. Plus I'd do all the valve and port work myself, which would be something to do when I don't feel like studying (and uh... I almost never actually feel like studying). The end goal is really only to run 1bar on the car when I feel like more power, and 10psi daily. I'm almost there.... getting a starion IC soon!!

I'll definitely come down to the store. You've got an actual store front now right?? I need some gauges (oil press and water temp) for basic monitoring, and a friggin turbo timer!! If I can get the SMIC in next tuesday then I'll stop down while testing it out :D

Anyways, I did some heat sheilding work today. I TOLD you people I'd redo it!!

2 layers of thermo-tec header wrap on the down pipe with thermo-tec heat spray, and thermo-tec "cool-it" aluminized heat barrier. I think it looks a lot better... gotta see if it works any better too.
