I got you all beat,TRUE STORY: 6 or 7 years ago I had a 90 240x for sale that I just did a high quality total engine rebuild on and was asking like $2,200 or $2,400. This girl and guy looked at it and said they would like to take it to a mechanic for him to look at, said they need it for 1.5 to 2 hours, I said ok. They came back 6 FUCKING HOURS LATTER and offered $200!!!!!! WHAT FUCKERS!!!!!!!!:fawk2::mrmeph::smash::fawkd:, I sold it 2 days later for $2,150. Can you all top that one?

a friend of mine played the worst, and best, joke on me once. My car is decent, kouki, SR, suspension shit, whatever, anyway he posted it on craigslist with my cel number for $1500... literally in the 3 hrs it took to find out who did it and get him to delete it i got 90 phone calls and 35 txt msgs...

the thing that sucked was i had to answer all the calls cause it was my work number so who knows if its an actual client, I ended up saying " oh i forgot to add a zero to the end" just to see if i got any bites.

The best was when one dude said "Well its pretty clean but alot of em are green, and i'm sure its not legal with the motor and all so i'll give you 1k" i laughed my ass off, for like a minute into the phone, until he hung up. wow, just wow

But if you guys wanna get your friends goin, do some crap like this, i was hot for a while...

Haha we don't have the time or bandwidth to go through my list

I hate when people ask "what is the lowest you can go." Give me a price that you can freaking afford even if is a low ball sheesh.

Or better yet

When they say "hook me up man on a good deal"

Then you quote them, and they say

"Is that the best you can do?"

And it's like riiiight, ya got me, I actually quoted you with a fake high quote first, waiting for you to ask me "is that the best," then I was going to give you the ACTUAL real quote LOL

I mean, I understand why that person asked their question, cause it's an honest question, but why would a seller quote you, then 10 seconds later expose that they were giving you a higher price to begin with? Doesn't make sense right?

The thing is, I don't have issue with haggling, if its justified

People need to stop thinking that just because they ask, they are entitled to the lowest possible price

If you come up with a reason why it should be lower than the price I quoted, then sure I'll give it some thought

Keep in mind that as the buyer, you need to have some tact, and the more things you do to complicate/frustrate/irritate the situation, the harder it will be for you to get a good deal, and/or establish a positive rapport with the business (which may lead to better deals in the future)

Also, the biggest thing that motivates me to give a good deal is SERIOUS BUYERS

If I know the person is ready to buy and not kicking tires, then that's way more motivation to try to help you out

But if you're the "boy who cried wolf" aka the guy who hits me up every day on AIM but hasn't bought anything for 1 year while promising "ohhh mannnn i totally would do it but _______," then there's a good chance I won't be as believing when it comes time that you say you are ready to buy

Don't get me wrong though, I'm not saying don't shop around or do your research before purchasing...but there's a difference between doing research and window shopping...even a "hey man I'm just price shopping before I make a purchase in a couple months" goes a long way, versus a "oh if I buy this tomorrow how much would it be" (knowing full well you aren't going to make the purchase)

"Ill trade you a ae86 its worth alot" or "Trade for cressida?"
sorry those cars are not valued at alot, unless the ae86 has alot of jdm brand name goodies with jdm bumpers in my opinion.

You get alot of low balls when they ask you if your car is street legal or "will require special smog"... supposedly street terms, people think that knocks 1k off your price lol

Where i used to work, always got cocky people calling in for cheap deals.. "Austin come on, you can do better then that. I know you got a cheaper deal".. that shit used to piss me off when im already giving them the special lol

In retail ,its bad when people come back a week or month later to see something on sale, and be like "how come this is now on sale?" and "I want to be reimbursed" ..

I quoted someone $250 for clutch work on a p10. Motherf*cker had to the nerve to say $100 and I'm towing it to you already. WTF?!?!?! Just Recently someone lowballed me on an RSR downpipe more than half off. His reasoning "come on man I really need this downpipe my current one is leaking bad. I have a 4 year old and can't drive them in the car with the fumes seeping into the car". Seriously!!?!? I guess that's why I'm reluctant to take a potential sale/ sidework seriously I guess its just something we all have to deal with...

Just cause you mod a car, doesn't mean they go up in much actual value.

In 1996, i bought my 89 240 for $4200 cash. Full HKS exhaust and rims, in WA state too.
thats 13 years ago.
And you guys want that for a 240 with some suspention , exhaust, rims and matbe a swap, over 12 years later. lol!!!!

I think the best is when you are selling something for $30 and they tell you they will give you $15 shipped, cause usually the item will cost $15 to ship. so its like your just giving it to them.

i was selling a staggered set of sportmax, the wheels were less than a year old. i bought them new from my previous employer and got them at like, 10% over cost, so i paid around 600ish for them. anyways, i curbed one of them, but the damage was cosmetic only and the wheel wasnt affected in anyway. i put em up for sale for 200 bucks. super super good deal as i really just wanted them gone. some mother fucker had the nerve to tell me that the wheel was "totally fucked up and that i'm smoking crack for trying to sell it" and then proceded to offer me 5 dollars for the set. i ended up selling them 2 weeks later to a buddy for my full asking price.

Freaking NICE man!!!

I put my 89 two-tone up and said I was open to trades, it has blacktop sr, coils, S15 turbo, fmic bolt ons etc. A guy offered me a 1996 Mercury Sable with "a new starter and fresh oil" lmao it was hilarious. I give some of these guys credit for having the balls to say such things. I'm not going to lie, I've thrown out a lowball or two in my life, I'm sure 99.9% of us have. As it goes in big ticket item sales, you won't get something you don't ask for, the worst they can do is say no and you can usually shoot a realistic offer from there. Every once in a while, you get what you ask for, or pretty darn close to it.

No, what's worse is when you call someone to ask about a car they have for sale, and they're all gung ho about it and so you ask if you can take a ride to see it this weekend... and its like two hours away... So the weekend comes, and you call before you leave so you can set up a place to meet at (I'm not fond of, hey come to my house to see it kinda shit)... and about 30 minutes from where you're supposed to meet you call and get no answer. Okay, maybe he can't hear the phone, or he's busy. You call once you get to the meeting spot. No answer. Wait for 30 minutes, and head home empty handed. Never hear from the guy again

That shit's the gayness.

No whats worse is what happened to me. I called this guy in San Diego with a car for sale. I told him I was coming from Los Angeles and was leaving to come look at it. He said ok. So I leave and cruise down there its a good hour and a half drive close to 2 hours.

Anyways, I am like 3 miles from the exit and I see the exit sign so I give him a ring on my cell. Me.... "Hey I am just about at your exit I will see you in 5 minutes", Him..... "oh don't bother coming down I just sold the car"! I was so pissed, I started cussing his ass out lol.
I was like, fuck you, I came all the way from LA and you knew I was coming down and you just went and sold it without even waiting, or calling me to tell me you were not going to wait? He fucking hung the phone up, I called his phone back and left one nasty ass message on his voice mail.
It was some fucked up shit on his part.

Have you seen most Zilvia for sale threads? I think everyone asks way more than they want to get because they know they'll get lowballed. If you ask $300 for a $200 item the people who know whats its worth will offer you what you really want to get for it. I've never posted what I actually want to get for something the first time I post a price.

On a side note I've gotten some good deals lowballing. My car is worth more right now NADA than I paid for it all those years ago. And some of the parts I've picked up I've gotten for decent prices just by throwing an offer out that I don't expect to be accepted.

I do however have tact and if I can't afford the asking price I don't string the seller along, I tell them I'm not interested and don't bug them about the price

There was a guy on our local forum giving away a free Sr block and he lived a little ways out of the city. Somebody messaged him and asked him if he would pay their gas to come pick it up. Shit, he could probably get like 50 bucks for it at the scrap yard and this dude wanted him to PAY to have it picked up. Now thats messed.

wow the guy i wrote about in my OP wrote this PM to me:

"wow dude real fucking mature, i didnt just fucking offer you the shift knob. i would never need to low ball anyone for fucking anything. money is tight for everyone in the community and everyone is trying to get stuff sold to make ends meet. just cuz i fucking added that to the list of shit i have laying around doesnt mean i was just offering that in trade for something thats worth more. a fucking shift knob for an lsd?! really man? wow"

here are the other things he offered me in addition to the "shift knob"

"i wants but gots no cash, but i do have some fog lights, one pair are yellow round ones, the other are oem rectangle ones from an 89 or 90 hb, i got coupe interior pieces, a pig nose front no lip cuz it got destroyed, fenders, a T4 turbo thats new only mounted never used, i also have mega weighted shift knob i made out of a trailer hitch lol its 1pound heavy. thats all i can think of right now. anything you like?"

thanks man, a pignose front with no lip, interior pieces, and a bunch of other junk.

that's not super unreasonable imo because if you're selling a car for 50 bucks, it's probably a piece of crap that you just want out of your driveway. :hide:

i had a '90 parts car. i bought it for $200 and pulled the Sportlines off of it, swapped on my stock springs. i sold the dashboard out of it for a hundred. then i went to sell the car for $200. i list it on a local forum as a parts car, clean title but needs a LOT of work, for $200. bad engine but it had a very clean frame.

some kid says he's really interested but needs to take a look. he comes over and sees a $200 parts car. he acts mildy interested, says he needs to talk to his dad. okay. he's not going to buy it, he's some high school kid getting in way over his head. no biggie.

then he posts up in my local thread about how shitty the car is. "the interior wasn't even put together, it was all in the TRUNK!!!!!!" and so on. who the fuck does that? what do you expect for two hundred dollars? fucking retards.

Anyone ever thought of doing this? I don't sell too much so I can't comment of having done it myself.

I only ask because yes, I've seen a lot of lowball offers from Zilvian's in the FS section... and they flamed for it.

1) Anyways, agree to the lowball offer.

2) Pick some random out of the way place and tell him to "meet you there".
(Your call, like if I'm in NorCal (San Francisco), I'll tell him to meet me in Sacramento/Bakersfield)

3) Don't go.
When he calls to complain, tell him that you don't like his lowball offer and then try to get justification why he even thought that was fair. When he decides to complain on Zilvia, post what his lowball offer was in response.

Zilvian's will take care of the rest.

Yeah its subjective, but if you look at the majority of 1-sided offers in this thread they would just get laughed at by the rest of the community and show that they're poor. Yes, I will laugh at you for being poor -- why? Because you're not spending it on necessities, but for a hobby.

I think Logan (Aspec) said it best in one of his posts -- (to paraphrase): Don't spend money you don't have. I think he even mentioned that if you come to him hoping he'll convince you to buy wheels from him over more important things (bills, family), he won't sell to you.

I'd love to see the "Feedback" forums flooded with "Bad Seller - Wouldn't take my week-old trash as payment for his Volks!" type posts.

Whats worse is when you call the dude and tell him you're on the way and you'll be these in an hour and a half. 10 minutes away he calls you and sold the car. I was extremely pissed to say the least.

I actually was selling a turbo and some parts one time for 500.

I can proudly say that I have NEVER lowballed anyone. Yay for me. I have gotten many lowball offers though... I was selling a set of wheels a while back, had em posted for 400, some jerkoff offered me 75 bucks for the set.
Another time, I was selling a VLSD with a 4.36 ring and pinion, had it posted for 300 bucks. Somebody wanted to trade me 50 bucks and an open diff for it. lol

Even worse than lowballers are the shady sellers. My girlfriend was looking for a car a couple years ago, and I found an AE92 Corolla GTS for 1500 bucks on Craigslist. Guy said it was a '91, 150k miles high comp, small-port Redtop 4age (which IS the proper engine for a 91), new clutch, aftermarket exhaust, lowering springs, etc. He said it had been in a minor accident and needed a new rear bumper, but that's no big deal, right?
The guy lived in Valencia by Six Flags, and I lived about 65 miles away in Long Beach at the time. So we set up a meeting to check out the car and drove up there on a Sunday (took two and half hours due to shitty LA traffic). We get off the freeway, got lost because the guy gave us shitty directions. After giving us the runaround for 30 minutes, he finally tells us where to meet him, and then makes us wait another 30 minutes while he drives over there.
So, I start looking at the car, and I realize the body damage is worse than he says; the trunk floor is all smashed up. I figured, "whatever, I'll just use this to talk him down." I took the car for a drive, and quickly realized something was up with the motor. It didn't feel nearly peppy as a high comp 4age should... I popped the hood and saw the TVIS plate on the intake manifold, and figured out that is wasn't a redtop, but rather, a basic big-port bluetop 4age. After noticing that, I asked to see the title, and the title shows the car as an '89 model with 220k+ miles.

At that point, I basically told the guy to eat a dick, and we took off. HUGE waste of time - just like this post... HA!

the only think worse than getting low balled is when you put shit up for hella cheap and nobody is even interested.

...i dont even want to get started on honda folk.

Craigslist is always bad for low ball offers. I don't remember any specifics, but I remember something I was selling for a reasonable amount and someone offered me $20 dollars CASH and will pick up NOW.

Just got offered over 30% less than my asking price for my M3 today because he felt he should pay "less than what Edmunds(!!!) thinks it's worth."

I also told him to slow down if he didn't know how to take a corner fast after he lifted hard right at the "apex"(very early) highway on-ramp on the test drive. And he called my stock E36 M3 clutch "really tricky" when he kept bogging it out on the start(it's stupid easy to drive). It was horrendous.

Sold a N62 maf on ebay, Ended up selling for 3.30$ lucky I charged about 9$ for shipping, Just enough to cover shipping and all of ebay/paypal fees. Guy gets it and says his car runs like crap and it must be the maf and wants another one,(He explains problem and sounds like other issues from what he tells me!) I told him I dont have another one but I'll refund his money So I did and told him to pound sand.

I guess thats not really low ball, it was a sale.....damnit I suck

I hate when people ask "what is the lowest you can go." Give me a price that you can freaking afford even if is a low ball sheesh.

This.

I'm selling my Apexi N1 duals for $240 OBO including a header and I get e-mails "What is the lowest you can go"

COME ON, the EXHAUST ALONE is worth more than $240 and I'm giving you headers for free.

I also just sold a 93' Civic 5-spd with 170k on it but new suspension, bunch of new stuff perfect paint and not one ding. I got offers of 'how low can you go' and a $1300 offer. I was only asking $1800, I sold it to a guy for $1600 because he was nice and cash in hand.

Wow I hope you either got that punk kid fired and/or beat his ass.

And ugh... I Guess one of the worse lowballs that happened to me was when I was out Sunday night cruising [it's a tradition everything petrolhead does in my city] and I ran into my cousin and his 2 friends in a parking lot.

One of them looks at my jdm 180sx and says, "I'll give you $1,000 and a [beat the fuck up beater] 91 integra for it." I wasn't even selling it and I just purchased that car for $7.2K and paid another $600 to get it saftied so wtf? To make it worse he kept repeating his offer for the entire night.

I wonder how many people he has tried that with, what a douche.

I had a 2000km built KL mazda engine w/ fidanza flywheel, 365ftlb clutch, awr mounts, a killer single top feed fuel setup which is really rare and so much more stuff for sale for 3k and I got offered 1k because, "Thats all it is worth." I ignored him and he kept PMing me saying, "Did you accept my offer yet?"
I sold the block and heads alone for $2500, and made more money parting it out than selling whole.

What's funny is that everyone that has posted here knows damn well that they are either trying to break even or make a profit on the ish they sell.

First rule of business, always make a profit.

So happens is, we've made ourselves into low-balling monsters, because we have know idea what has been offered before us.

For example, my buddy and I will try to work on someone by calling, offering less than the other. Once the seller thinks "maybe I am asking too much", he eventually sells it for around the middle offer.

The market for used cars/parts is the same way. You won't take the low ball, but very rarely does someone get exactly what they want for their sale. If everyone always got exactly what they were asking, fan-boy cars like the 240SX would all be selling for 20k. That's part of the reason Supra sell for so damn much, because everyone that buys one isn't afraid to drop $25,000 on a 10 year old, high mileage, beat ass car.

how in the world does he know how much is the brand new go for and now he thinks that $70 is reasonble????

I've got one. We were trying to sell my brothers 93 Integra a wile back. It had a fully built engine. I'm not talking about rice fully built, I'm talking cams, valve springs, retainers, stroked LS-Vtec. It was also just rebuilt by a professional shop with all the paper work and such. It had 1000 break in miles on the engine, And around 130k on the body. We had the car listed for 3k.

Some guy comes up from FL to look at the car, (4+ hour drive for him). Gets to the house, Looks at the car, Then busts out his phone and tells us hes some master mechanic and he builds 1000whp engines all day. Now comes the test drive, He stalls it pulling out of the drive way. I can tell he drives performance cars from his master clutch skills. Gets it going on the 2nd try to only stall it again at the next stop sign. OH JOY. So, After about 5 minutes of trying to explain how to use this super hard clutch (stage 3 act 6 puck unsprung) We get it out of the neighborhood.

Car runs good and solid, No problems, Misfire or odd hesitation. So we go back to the house. He pops the hood and leaves it running and gets out. Once he opens the hood he complains about the valve noise. OH MY GOD. Its got a built valve train, No shit its going to be loud. He tells us that its got bent valves and the engine needs rebuilt ect ect. Then offers us 1000.... The rebuilt alone cost 3400, As proved on the invoice.

After calling him a dip shit and telling him that he had NO idea what he was talking about I said "I don't care if you pull 3k out of your pocket right now, Due to your ignorance I wouldn't sell the car to you anyways. Enjoy your trip back to FL fuck face." And went inside.

Here's pictures of said car so you can see what im talking about.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v223/teckademics7420/bros%20car/41ce1c37.jpg

We dicided to not sell it, Funny because with all those ben't valves its been daily driven fine and has good compression and everything.

account activated, here my test post. Thanks to bob an admin for the help getting here.

i have a real staggered (that means 8 wheels i bought total) to make 1 custom set of Rikens 16x8 front 16x9.5 rear 5 lug, 3.75" lip on the front 4.5" on the rear......with tires im asking 1500 (which is a steal imho, just the rear tires alone 295 50 16's cost me $300 + tax + shipping). And btw wheels are fresh from shop 0 miles on them. these were made for a buick grand national. Okay, so this kid calls me saying that he loves the wheels and has never seen a set like em. I reply, "Yea because there arn't any, this is a custom made 1 off set i made after buying 2 sets of Rikens. And I picked the best wheels of the 8 I bought to make this one set of 4" he next words were, "well sense their a 1 off set can you lower the price to $1000, I have $800 cash and we can meet up tonight if you want and I can give you the other $200 later"

I almost got pissed, then didn't. I just hung up on him, and he didn't call back.

I can't speak for others, But I have never low balled the shit out of someone. Sure, If they post OBO im going to ask if they will take a little bit off the price, But I would never ask to cut the price 3/4ths and have them ship.

Oh, And another one. I used to own a White Zenki. It was automatic but perfect body, and interior. Even the engine bay was spotless. I'm talking, Not one dent in the car clean. The only thing the car had was an intake, And some springs. I wanted 4k for it. Some kid said he would give me 1300 and tried to make it like he was doing me a favor. Saying, How there were much cheaper cars then mine.

My question, If there are such cheaper cars... Why the fuck are you calling me? Ugh, If I ever found that kid I would toss him off the Savannah Bridge.

Again, The car.

16x9.5" rears with custom 4.5" lip, 295 BFG tires (brand new)

"The market for rare Rikens isn't good right now, plus the economy isn't doing that well. I will take them off your hands for $900, let me know."

I spent $300 for the new 295'50'16 tires alone lol. Not to mention all the $ I have invested in the redoing of all the wheels or the original purchase of the wheels. Click the thumb, then the pic in the new window again to see full size. Repost I know, but after re reading my first post I shouldn't post drunk :l101:. I hate low ballers with a passion. I like how ppl like to say "I'm just trying to be frugal. If I can get it at half what the seller is asking, then I'm better off". If you can't afford it then move on. If you can, and are just trying to pull a fast one, then get a life. I've always wondered if people haggle like this with places like Aspec and other larger shops. People act like your stupid if you pay close to what the seller is asking. To be hones, if you don't like the price, move on.

godrifttoday

Why do u hate them? I understand what u mean with shops but I belive we are talkig yo private party sales. Shops must take into account cost benefit scenerio, u just can't do it at that price because of the overhead cost and anything associated with that. But why not get the best deal possible? I know I don't feel bad when I get a good deal on something nor care if the person post or complain about about how cheap I am so what! U got a good deal. I think that's capitalism as it's finest, maybe i can sell it for more? For an instant profit. But if I need something but if I don't think it's a good deal I'll just wait, impatience will cost us money almost everytime. But that's just me I totally uderstand when people go from a price to practically 80% off lol that's insane, but overall just get the best and lowest price possible

This is almost on the dot exact 350z I had in mind I wanted to buy in about a year from now.

I have a 1990 240sx with a KA24DE installed and was put togethor from ground up basically the engine and 90% of it's components and what not are all replaced or maintained. Is one of the cleanest engine bays for a 240 around imo. Very clean and low profile exterior actually has a 2008 350z gloss black (G41) paint job... Is used for drifting however all those that know me and know how I am with my car I am on top of my maintence and I overall take very good care of my 240. has 120.439 miles on odometer and Engine has around 102.386 mileage and this Engine is overal a rebuilt. Clean crack free dash! and has 2x red Tenzo-R bucket seats with a gt formula 270mm steering wheel greddy counter weight shift knob. This car has all name branded parts installed for the most part no cheap quality and in efficient parts on this 240. I have all maintence documentation and purchased parts reciepts as well. 240 is 98% rust free and really only has an issue with the drivers side frame, I treated it and is no longer has rust but has a remaining hole in one paticular spot that will need to be patched if you get real serious about drifting and saftey, however this beatiful 240 is still drive able. I daily drive this 240, and would trust it going cross country cruising and state to state driving. I am only giving a rough up on Interior, Exterior, and overall view of my car... would want to do suspension work and buy coilovers next...

pm me if you have further intrest...

Id say all in alll I bought the 240sx fo $1.500 cash and invested and how would you say restored it back to life with a low pro style investment and taste of around $7.000 so with consideration of the price gap and differences and what not I would be willing to possibly top it with and additional $1.500 cash

Idk just let me know what you think and maybe we can start with meeting up to speculate eachothers rides and take it from there...

^that's a good one...

few years ago I was trying to get rid of 95 KA in running condition
but with the typical chain rattle and ~150k miles on it
was asking $100 and people still wanted it for a third of that
one potential buyer in San Diego called me the day he was going pick
up saying that he didn't have a truck or cherry picker and if that I would
deliver it for the same price.

recently I had miscellaneous S14 bits for sale after my kouki conversion
was selling clear turn signals for ~$35 shipped and had a buyer
I asked him to throw a few bucks for paypal
and got a response back saying that these were $30 new and that
he was just doing me a favor and shouldn't have to pay the paypal fee
so I told him to buy the new ones and I proceeded to throw the ones I had in the trash

Ok there is more than meets the eye to people who get bargains. Its not because the people are lowballers per se.

If you think that the key is just lowballing everyone you will get told off by a lot of sellers and be viewed as a cheap skate.

Buying and selling is a talent. People who do routinely get the good deal know to pick and chose their battles. I.E. they do not run around lowballing everyone thinking that is the way to get the deal.

In fact they sometimes pay the asking price because its already worth it and trying to shoot the person done from there would be rude.

The other part of it is routing out the deal. I.E. searching it, going out and finding it. Not sitting back at their computer just playing scatter shot price shooting.

To many punks on this forum have no ability to buy and sell, yet they want the shit cheap without doing the footwork. Therein is the problem with what you wrote above.

Ya but you made the post that elicited the response. Oh and so your friend can do it and may have talent at it. It does not automatically mean you can do it.

Plus your attitude of automatically knocking off the the top of anyone's asking price? Its amateurish in the game.

Like I said before you need to know when to pick the battle. Gauging if someone will accept an offer or not is part of that. I think by your statements thats completely lost on you.

Oh and just to clarify you are the classic example of what we are talking about in this thread. You lowball without knowing how or when.

This thread is talking about the fact that the average lowballer is a clueless fuck who could not buy and sell his way out of paper bag.

He just wants an insane deal, because he may or may not get jealous of others getting deals that he can't seem to get, and wants something for free.

The result he lowballs everyone just like you yourself stated. That is the definition of a lowballer and you my friend have identified yourself as one.

Oh and don't take offense from this post, because you were the one that went and started it all with your initial post. You have no one to blame for being targeted but yourself. You brought it upon yourself.

I do the same thing. You are definetly right about this.

If I don't have a lot of money, then I can't help it if I want something so bad it's worth a shot to offer what you have. Otherwise if I have more than enough money to buy something, I usually will pay the asking price with no negotiation.

Then when you call them on it they try to apologize, but try to justify their actions none the less. Its like fuck you were wrong to do it. Apologize, do not try to justify it and shut the fuck up. Otherwise your full of shit.

it's not always the buyer's fault for lowballing. sometimes sellers have no idea what the hell they're selling. like fd owners trying to sell their cars with 80k and no rebuild for $14k. personally, i'd rather wait for a seller to drop their price to a number i like before offering some bullshit number. and of corse there are the times when you ask the seller "what's the lowest you'll go" and they reply, "what do you think is reasonable?" that's just asking to get lowballed for being such a pussy. sellers gotta say their price is FIRM, not OBO.

Some dude in all seriousness offered me $4,000 for my full built sr powered hatch because the oil seals on the turbo where blown. I originally was asking $10,500 because of the fully built motor, suspension, 2 bride buckets, custom 12pt cage, bn sports aero and work miesters.

4k is too low, but you cant expect buyers to pay your debt for you.

my buddy tried to make all his money back after dumping 10k into a civic. no ones going to pay 10k for a 90's civic no matter whats done to it.

and fuck "whats the lowest youll go?"

people get you to commit to a low price on phone, then show up with even less money. or flake after you took off for the day

Ya I can't even begin to list all the super silly lowball offers I have thrown at me on cars and parts.

I think the best is when you are selling something for $30 and they tell you they will give you $15 shipped, cause usually the item will cost $15 to ship. so its like your just giving it to them.
this is funny but I can't count how many times I did this just to clear up space

Thank god I was also going to pick up a trans down there so the trip was not all for lost.

no offense bro but....I think anyone on here would have taken a sale over the "I'm coning to look at it"

Not to be rude, but A lot of people on this forum seem to think that putting Tein coilovers and knockoff seats and rims makes the car work 6k-10k..

A lot of what has been posted in this forum seemed to be a fair price. Modding a car has very little effect to a cars value. Do not go asking 10k for a beat ass 240sx with volks and brides... Take them out and put the stock shit back on. You will get a lot more $$ with parting. Just my 2cents, you dont need to reply :P

Some of you guys saw the busted ass s14 someone tried to trade for my car with my decent fitting wheels, lots of legit $$$ parts and work too.

He also did not want to "keep our own wheels".

Someone offered me a wii for a fiberglass racing bucket sparco knock i had selling bnib which was a fair trade except my add said "CASH ONLY. Will only trade for oem rx7 turbo parts (listed the parts....), a bee racing rev limiter or 17 inch tires. NOTHING ELSE.

Someone offered me a probably fucked laptop for a set of wheels i was selling when i said "CASH ONLY. NO TRADES" Granted they were some jank motegi mr7's, i wanted money. Ended up trading for a kickass amp and subs almost new which i sold for half of what they were worth.

Someone lowballed me $100 shipped for a REAL re-amemiya super racing 2 way lsd. I wanted $500obo. Sold for $375 to a cool dude i look up to. $100. Fuck. I told the guy "I have a welded i'll sell you for that much. You pick it up though."

I've been offered civics, integras and a bunch of other fwd crap you can find a million of in most big towns for my rx7. After that, i decided i'm not selling my project or trading it. I'll be keeping it until i total it or get that offer i can't refuse because the party wanting the vehicle REALLY, REALLY wants it and knows what it is.

I've gotten the kelly blue book thing several times.

I shake my head. I NEVER use that as a buy weapon. When people do that shit to me over the phone or via email i hang up/cut off contact right then. I know you're going to take a loss sometimes with parts/cars but do not try to use bullshit standards to cheat/rob me out of my shit like i'm an idiot or something.

A few years ago I had a 96 Turbo Talon for sale. I wanted $3,500 for it. Car was mint with 135k on it.

Beyond the regular ATV trade request, some dumbass actually called me and wasted a good 10 minutes asking questions only to then ask if he could trade me his "competition bmx bike and $500, then in a month he could give me another $1,000 that his mom would give him for his B-day".

:cj:

Worst two days of my life, Craigslist is a POS crap when selling, I got +100 emails, a dozen worthless calls. The guy that finally bought it did it the old fashion way, saw the for sale sign in the window, gave me cash and off he went.

Alright, it's a 1992 car for $1000. What's your offer?

$200.
