I picked up a dohc ka motor that i put all new gaskets on paintred it blah blah blah. Anyways the motor was an automatic and i dropped it into my car and put the 5sp tranny flywheel and clutch on. But i was reading in a magazine today that there is a metal dowel thing that is suppose to be taken out of the the back of the crank on the back of the motor right in the middle of where the flywheel and clutch bolt on. I however did not know this at the time and i never pulled this piece out. I bolted the clutch and flywheel all on and they seemed to bolt on without a problem. My question is if this dowel piece is in fact still there would the flywheel still have bolted on fine and will it cause any problems still being there? I really do not want to have to drop the drive shaft and tranny and clutch and flywheel to get this piece out, however if it needs to be done i guess i dont have a choice. Thanks for the help in advance.

Wow. Yes, there's a pilot bushing just like the manual cars in the back of the crank, but it's must larger on autos. I have seen people not remove it without immediate issue, but you're increasing the wear on your input shaft heavily because it's steel on steel instead of brass. I'd strongly advise to pull it, and next time read up a bit before a major job like that. It's easy to get out with the engine hanging on a hoist, not so much when it's in the car.

So i should most definitely pull the tranny back off and removing the bushing? When i bought the motor it had the tranny attached so i just pulled the tranny and torque converter off and thought that was all i had to do. I guess thats the mistake i make for not making sure everything that needed to be done before actually doing so. Once i pull out the bushing thats all i need to do correct? there isnt something else that needs to go in its place?
i feel like a fcking dumb ass for doing this
Devon you trying to help me do this tomorrow when i get off work at 5?

Are KAs the same as SRs? I always thought the tranny wont even go in if the automatic pilot bushing is still there...

I left the auto bushing in when i put my motor in, right ontop of my manual transmission... let me tell you, it really sucked! With the clutch in and the tranny in first it would randomly start grinding and sound like i was just trying to force it into gear... im sure it was bad for the tranny, i dropped the tranny and got the bushing out, put the manual one and all my problems went away

I will just be installing a new bushing and not even bothering trying to get the one out of my other motor
