$500? Why? I was charged about $70 for one hour of labor, even though it took them about two hours. That was at Fremont Auto Repair, or something like that. It's near Thornton and Fremont Blvd in Fremont. I'm sure Modified Toys Speed Shop (http://www.modifiedtoys.com) in San Jose would also be able to do it for a decent price.

If you are getting a whole new pumpkin then the cost is cheap (I would recommend doing it yourself) but if they need to take the diff apart and install the VLSD then $500 will be the average price:(

if you are swapping guts then you might need a shop

if you are swapping pumpkins DO IT YOURSELF. it is VERY easy. jsut takes 2 - 3 peole, jack stands a jack and tools. very easy except time consuming and muscle strength.

swapping internals, yeah i'd take it to a shop

There is a shop in San Francisco that has the pumpkins for $250.

I'll tell you which one after I pick mine up Saturday ;) j/k. They are called R Crew Racing.

Would you need a matching driveshaft to do this? I read something about longer/shorter shafts but that might be ABS related.

Thanks,
Pelican

The ABS equipped 240's and J30's had the ABS sensor on the "nose" of the diff, so they're 1" longer. My friend used the stock driveshaft with his and later his tranny started to [pee (because **** is censored)] oil. Other people have claimed the stock driveshaft with the 1" longer diffs was fine.
