I have a ProSport EGT gauge that i would like to install on my dohc ka-t s13. I just dropped the motor into the car and for the most part have everything hooked up on the motor so now i want to install my electronics such as my boost and egt gauge turbo timer shift light ect... I thought that i have seen people install their egt gauges on their downpipes but i thought that the sensor was suppose to be before the turbo i.e. exhaust mani. Now my questions are....
Should i place the sensor on the downpipe or on the exhaust manifold?
Would it be safe to drill the hole on the mani while its bolted to the car, what about the metal shavings from drilling the hole, wont they get down in the manifold and then go through the turbo?
Anyone that has down this before and has some tips they would like to give to me i would greatly appreciate. Thanks in advance and happy boosting :)

Put it in the turbine outlet by the 3 bolt for the DP or on the DP side of the 3 bolt if you are bottom mount internal gate.
External gate in the DP by the turbo. Make sure it sits in the stream.
Manifold just puts another stress point to crack at.

Yea the car is a bottom mount internal gate. So if i drilled and tapped a hole on the downpipe right below the turbo outlet pipe the gauge will be accurate?
I was looking at my buddies boosted honda today and his sensor is right on the manifold and he said the shop that tuned his car said that if the sensor was post turbo that it really wouldnt even be worth having.

I always drill/tap right into the exhaust housing on the turbo. Can't get anymore accurate than that, and there's no way in hell that cast iron will stress fracture like a stainless manifold/elbow/downpipe will.

so wait... not in the outlet, nor the downpipe... not even the manifold... your talking like exactly on the housing? hummmmm...
oh... btw... im running stock exhaust manifold and a muffler shop special downpipe/exhaust... in my case... i will soon add a new turbo outlet... btw... i have stock t25 redtop turbo and will upgrade to a internally wastegated gt2871R in the future...

Yep. Right below the manifold where the exhaust gases first merge. Can't get any hotter than right there.

Can you show me a picture of exactly where your saying to place the sensor? i already have the turbo and manifold bolted to the motor so it would be kind of hard to drill/tap into the turbo housing. Can i put it on the stock outlet elbow somewhere and still be sufficient?
