Okay.... me and my buddies have been dealing with a pretty cool guy... old school lots of JDM parts.... pretty legit on everything so far.
well i'm buying his work CR kai's and i had a question .
today i went a made a pretty hefty deposite... so i decided to check out the wheels a lil close... it was pretty snow tho... so i wipped off 2 of the wheels( they are still on his car) and notcied that there was no embossed Work emblem on either of them.

so i was wondering.... did the earlier versions not have these emblem on them... or is he trying to rip me off and sell me a set of rota torques. He said they 18x.9.5 +12 .... hard to check b/c they are on the car...... so is there any other marking on the wheel i can look for to make sure they are Works and not Rotas...

I would say the raised lettering is a means of showing whether or not they're legit.

If it doesn't have the work raised logo on the rims I would say it is not legit
how much was the deposit? take the wheels and screw the guy outta the rest if they are fake. nothing like scammin a scammer.

okay.... well i'm either gonna get my payment back which was 500
or i'mma pull the cards out of the sleeve and tried to turn this deal around....
as of right now i'm set to pay 1400 w/ a full set of Brand new 235/45/18 tires falken RT-615 i think
which seems alright... but in truth i was only buying them b/c i thought they were CR-Kai
so i'll prolly just take my money back and buy a real set

yea they look like this... and i looked at Work's site and they don't come in this dark of a color.

also i noticed that the Rota's have more of a lip to them, while the Works bleed into the edge of the rim....

those are legit if they have the raised lettering

maybe they were a different color and got them power coated which made the emblems on then be painted..take a wheel off and check the back like jbuckley said they have to say japan on the back side of the spoke!

I don't know about other Rays but all real Gramlights have the Rays G cast into the spoke. I believe Volks have a similar deal and CR Kai's have the Work name embossed into the wheel. I am not sure about other models of Works but I would not be surprised that they would.
Basically its pretty damn easy to spot a knock off versus the real deal. They are telltale signs and the real deal manufacturers have a tendancy to put some form of identification on the wheel linking it to them.

why dont you stop being lazy and pull on of the wheels off and look on the inside. and stop bitching and calling this guy a scammer.
unless he thinks youre a complete IDIOT or he has no idea himself i dont think he would try and scam you, esp if he has done legit business with you prior

so i was wondering.... did the earlier versions not have these emblem on them...
i bought a set of CR-Kai's damn near around the time they first came out and even they have the embossed Work lettering on them. if it doesnt say that i would assume that they are not the real deal

no it's not.
I talked to him today on the phone, he insured me that the emblem is on the back, and that will be taking them off his car for me to inspect next weekend.....
idk, i found out that they are not the +12 offset i thought they were, but they still stick way out, but he maybe wrong about that....
oh well i'll decide next weekend if i'll take my money back, he said he has no problem if i do.

Tell him to take a pic of the casting or w/e thats on the inside of the wheel. I know for a fact that rotas have well... ROTA stamped or w/e into the metal on the backside of the wheel face.
check wheels out in person, removed from car
offset and size will be located on the back of the wheel too
I think your getting a bit ahead of yourself.. my guess it they are legit..
