View Full Version : DOHC flywheel/tranny to SOHC motor?

This may be a non-issue soon, as the timing chain growl is getting pretty vicious and I have my eye on a newer KA motorset. This is all dependent on whether or not I get to stay in CA or not.
However, if I stay in CA and decide to keep the SOHC going, I will be swapping a 5 speed onto it (in lieu of the auto). I have a DOHC tranny (S13), a DOHC flywheel (S14), and of course, a SOHC motor. Does anyone know if this setup would work? Is the Bolt pattern on the flywheel different? I know the clutch kit is the same for all years 240sx, as well as being able to utilize the 240z clutch kit (it's on my '91 right now).
Anybody with experience or knowledge, please fill me in.

For anyone who cares, I'll be using new clutch master and slave, new hardline, stainless braided clutch line, and an aftermarket (cheap/free) clutch kit.

it will work fine kevin. I put a Truck SOHC flywheel on my old 91 because hardbody truck KA24e engines came with a flywheel that had a larger clutch surface area. 240mm vs 225mm on our cars.

Ok, thanks, Dave. Didn't you have to make some modification to that flywheel?

nope bolted it right in. I lightened it because it was a little heavier than our stock flywheels. Of course if I had bolted it in without the lightening, I think I would have had one of the torqueist stock DOHC engines, we had ever seen. hahahhahahha.:D

F/S i just completed a swap a few months ago and have KA24E parts/ motor/ tranny etc. available. this is the deal. i know i went about everything backwards but i was not sure if i was even going to swap a sr20det in or not.. so what happened was i wasted alot of money in parts and labor. your gain my loss. i installed on the ka24 that has 140k & is running excelent a injen intake, tsudo stainless headers, fidanza lightened flywheel, stage 2 clutch w/ carbon fiber disc, lightened underdrive crank pulley ( which is incredable in terms of the performance noticed with that mod). the fuel injectors are also recently replaced. an exhaust system, 5 speed tranny also perfect. i'm looking to first let it all go as a package if that doesn't work out then i will start to part out single parts etc. if any interest out there then make offers.
