I was going to buy some Suspension Tech. Sway Bars on the group sale they are having. And I was talking to a mechanic/engineer friend of mine and he does a lot of Auto-Xing also. He said that he thought the Sway Bars would put me in a modified or a higher class than just stock if I went to the events. He saids springs are fine and strut bars, but he was pretty sure that sway bars would put me on a higher classification, which I don't want to be in since all I have are Eibach Pro-Kits and no shocks yet.

So does anyone know if Sway Bars do put you in a higher class or not?

thanks a lot

Landon

Actually, almost any modifications will put you in a higher class... You should check out the SCCA rules. I dunno their site though. :(

Going by your list of mods, your in STS right now correct? If so, it won't bump you up any higher I believe. If you are still running gs, you will get bumped into sts which you should be in right now.

he's comparing to STOCK class...

i also thought he should
but looking at the link i previously posted..
you can stay stock with minor suspension upgrades (shocks/spring, aftermarket wheels/tires)

Well I guess I got ****ed by SCCA rules by putting an SR in my car...

In our area, suspension modifications (any) bumps you out of stock.

The intake should move him up too.

Adding aftermarket spring will move you up where shocks won't.
After market wheels won't move you up as long as they are stock size. You might be able to pass with a different width. But not with a different diameter.

So you don't think that if I bought sway bars that it will move me up into a higher class than I already am?

Yall confused me going back and forth with all this, but thanks anyway.

I have an intake and headers plus the suspension techniques front and rear anti sway bars and I compete in STS st. Louis SCCA.

were all talking about scca classes, right??? you can upgrade your shocks, catback exhaust, air filter (not an intake), and your front sway bar (not the rear) and still run in a stock class (in your case GS)...

since you do have springs, you are now forced to run in sts or dsp, both of which allow you to uprgrade both of your sway bars and springs...

 yep. As someone mentioned "Stock" also allows aftermarket wheels IF AND ONLY IF they are the EXACT same diameter AND width as stock, and within 1/4" (6mm) of the stock offset. That means only 15x6 wheels with offsets between +34 and +46.

Pretty sure the intake and headers take you out of STS, but different groups make exceptions sometimes. SR20VET up here in New England ran in STS when he was supposed to be in something like SP with his removed power steering pump. Heh.

Thats great! :D

From what I understand you're right--different areas do different things. I was told none of my mods would bump me up a class--the only thing they were worried about was if I had LSD or not.

The guy who did the tech inspection on my car before I could trial was racing against me in STS with a civic, so I figured if he let me slide then it was probably safe to say it wasn't against the rules! Besides, he frickin made me take the lug nut covers off my wheels which was a pain in the a**--he wasn't worried about the headers but the covers made me fail tech? (sorry I was just venting there)

that's odd... it's not like the LSD (assuming it was a VLSD) would really bump you up a class anyways (the base and SE models are in the same class IIRC). maybe they're afraid of drifters??

well, tech inspection usually is just for safety stuff. I just checked up on the STS rules and headers and intakes are allowed (intakes can be changed up to the TB). Even reprogrammed ECU's, FPR's, and piggyback components.

About the lug covers: that's definitely a safety issue. Anything not bolted or tied down has to be taken off. Since hubcaps and bolt covers are generally snapped on, they have to be taken off. Imagine one of those things coming off while your tires are spinning at a good 40mph right as you pass a corner marshall?? Not pretty.....

They said it would bump me up--to street prpared, I believe.

I gotcha on those covers, it wouldn't be cool if they came flying off!!!

As long as the car (2WD) came with a VLSD as a factory option it is legal in STS. You only move up to STX if the LSD if an aftermarket one.

Geez, how many different classes are out there for Auto-X? With all these classes it almost seems like you could pretty much be competing against JUST yourself somedays.

That isn't uncommon. A few times SM (the class I WILL be competing in) only had 2 or 3 cars, while STS (the class I WAS in) had like 30 or 40. I remember thinking all I needed to do to get a trophy was switch classes :D But uhh.... now that I switched classes... I'll have to deny saying that :p

There are lots of classes in the SCCA to try to cover all cars and all levels of modifications with some fairness. And the 240SX is no where near superstock. SS is dominated by ZO6's.
Classes include SS, AS, BS, CS, DS, ES, FS, GS, HS, ASP, BSP, CSP, DSP, ESP, FSP, STS, STX, SM, SM2, and several alphabetized Prepared and Modified classes as well. Bolded classes are what the 240SX is eligible before with different levels of modifications. I think beyond those it runs EP and EM.
