The film, Planet of the Apes came out in 1968.
Then the sequels were:
Beneath the Planet of the Apes 1970
Escape from the Planet of the Apes 1971
Conquest of the Planet of the Apes 1972
Battle for the Planet of the Apes 1973
I usually don't like older movies. Especially ones from the 70's because of the 70's quirkyness, but these films are really good.
I've seen bits and pieces of them growing up but never really sat down and watched them.
The plot throughout the movies is sooo god and stays strong through the sequels. I was really surprised.
The films also mirror what was going on in the 60's and 70's as far as racial tension going on our own society.
If you haven't seen these movies, go out and rent'em one at a time. Or do a marathon. They are worth it.

The original is great.
The sequels are pretty horrible, haha, but entertaining to watch nonetheless.

Yea special effects wise they are all pretty bad. That's usually the reason i can't watch a lot of movies from the 60's and 70's.
Night of the Living Dead was different though.

Alot of the kids on this forum may not appreciate the greatness of the classics though. I just asked one of my 19yr old employees what they thought of the original, and they thought the Mark Walburg movie was the only one....I showed clips from online, and they said it looked like crap. I Love them though, politically strong undertones and great overall plot. But i'm a Sci-Fi buff so what do I know <---Nerd :)

Me too Chad, me too.
I can see how younger kids may think the movies look like crap. Our society is so caught up on visuals. Be it visuals in video games, movies, people's appearance. It's hard for them to look past it.

A new Apes movie is coming out in August.
The same cg company that did Avatar is doing the CG in the new one and all of the apes will be CG. At first I wasn't thrilled about it, but now that a little sample of the CG has been shown I'm super excited. This is probably the most realistic CG I've ever seen.
The new movie is called Rise of Cesar. The first trailer debuts on iTunes tomorrow. So excited.

^^^Chimps? No sweat. Silverbacks? I think you're fucked unless you get a headshot.
I'm not really concerned with the monkey's ability to take a gunshot, though. I'm more concerned with what happens after the other smart monkeys see what happens when you point your 12gauge at them & when they start applying their superior speed, agility and strength to your ass.

idk, the chimps dont seem too terrifying.
if anything they seem friendly and appear to enjoy a good party.
Think it would have worked better as a science fiction comedy.
Not so sure it being effective as a thriller, def not horror.

Bump. Saw this last night. Movie was GREAT! One of this summer's best, for sure.
I had been wondering: Which would be worse? Robot Apocalpyse, Zombie Apocalypse or Ape Apocalypse?
While watching the movie, I thought to myself: Even if they're smart and strong, the apes numbers are limited. They can't take all 8 billion of us. Then I stayed until after the credits.
Yep. Ape Apocalype is pretty damned bad.
I already want a sequel where the humans try to mount a resistance.

Just got back from seeing it. What an amazingly well done movie. I LOVE that they covered all the bases. Like you said, you were like "Ok they aren't going to be able to take out the entire human race", then BAM the the part after the credits.
Everything was so believable. I love the quote from the original movie.
All I could think of at the end of it was how much I can't WAIT for a sequel now. It should either take place when Caesar is very old or hundreds of years later. either way I thought they did a fantastic job with this movie. They could have really fucked it up like the Mark Wahlberg movie but they did the source material justice.

My date and I were talking about it and she said, for the sequel, she wants to see how Ceasar deals with competition for primate leadership and Ceasar teaching/passing on his feelings about Humanity while dealing with resistance from them.
Obviously, something must have happened to keep the Humans from being completely wiped out from the original movies. All I can figure is that they were spared on a whim or due to the legacy of Ceasar's compassion.

EDIT* what happens at the end makes it easier for me to envision an ape takeover in today's modern world, what with our technological advantages and what not.
my question is will the apes be cruel, as they were in the walhberg movie.
what are they going to do when they've established their control?
i think my favorite part was when the gorilla, buck i think? pushed caesar aside and took down the helicopter.

i like how they didnt destroy the persona of the apes by not making them intentionally or unreasonably killing the humans. and explaining mankinds demise on themselves rather than a ape on human war.
also the compassion of cesar is kept through the movie too.

My questions is how the fuck are their a thousand Guerillas and Chimps in New York running around.
Total Chimp population - 230,000
Total Gorilla Population - 160,000 to 220,000
Humans - 7,000,000,000 (7 Billion)
Unless Caesar release a insane retro zombie virus it doesn't matter how adapt he is with almost 14,000 to 1 odds.

Nope. We have a hard enough time coexisting with people of different race and religion as it is.
We didn't coexist well with Neanderthals and that was well before the creation of organized religion, geo politics, culture, written language ect.
