Well, I had a similar situation...I'll try and help ya out here...this is what happened to me. I bought my car for $3500 cash. About 6 weeks later I totalled it into the back of an explorer. I wanted to keep the car so bad and the damage wasnt too bad. The insurance company claimed it a total loss and told me that the value of my car was around $5000 with tax and all this other ****. Take off a $500 deductible I was looking at $4500 cash coming back to me. I asked him how much would it cost to keep the car. He said "well let me look" and then he called me back and said "$500"...so I said "how does this work?" He explained that when I pick up the check for the car I just sign a little waiver that says I kept the car, etc. Easy as that. I have state farm insurance.

If your insurance is only going to pay off your loan they are pulling your ****ing leg and DONT let them get away with that. DEMAND more money or better yet AT LEAST KBB.

If you need any help let me know.

A quote from my uncle... "Threaten them with lawyers."
The KBB for that car should be about $6k at least. I have a '96 and it's listed at $7880 with 93k miles on it.

If its totalled, you have to talk to your insurance agency to get it back.
I bought my '95 back cheap after it was totalled. Actually worked out well to, parted it out and bought a '97 240 w/ the insurance money and cash from the parts.
Oh, and as for insurance money, i don't know about your company, but I got $10k for my '95 w/ 40k miles about a year and a half ago as a reference.

Did you say $4,700??? That's an awful lot for that kind of damage. I T-Boned a girl, (not my fault) and I couldn't even move my car off of the street. The WHOLE front was screwed. That's when I did my conversion. Well, all I'm trying to say is, $4,700 is a lot, like the other guy said, lawyers is the way to go.
