i have several people asking me to ship them my block and head across the usa. i talked to ups and they said they only ship packages up to 125 lbs so i would have to go through a freight company. I was wondering what companies fellow zilvians used and their experiences/rates were.
Thanks alot guys

i work for ups and we get packages in upwards of 250 pounds
but you have to pay the freight charges which can be hefty
the small bread truck weight limit is 150

depends on commodity / classification / density / cubic capacity / length etc.

block and head will probably need to be on a pallet no bigger than a standard size.

will be what is called an "LTL" shipment Less than a truckload

I used:

ABF www.abfs.com
YELLOW MyYellow, Your Online Connection to Yellow Transportation Inc. (http://www.myyellow.com) (ROADWAY has merged w/ them)
Old Dominion (they tend to break shit)

shipping to residential is more pricey, shipping to business is cheaper
does it need a lift gate at destination / pick up?
is it shipper load, consignee unload
drivers generally will not help

Freight via

Fed Ex freight
UPS freight

are pretty darn expensive

Roadrunner freight is not bad Roadrunner/Dawes on the web. they have a site. Your class will be either 85 or 55 if I recall correctly. It will be on a pallet which is 36x36. Be prepared to have the engine strapped down for them and I suggest you shrink wrap it. Tye downs from home depot work great as well as a roll of stretch tight. aka shrink wrap.
