any exhaust that is aftermarket, will attract cops, will it get you into trouble? maybe, maybe not.. I have an HKS hi-power no problems yet

something stockish looking would be ideal

I would rate N1 a 8/10 for attracting cops. If you get a silencer for it, it definetly helps. It just screams "I'm trying to be legal".

I'm running the apexi n1 catback (pictured in my avatar), along with my buddy. My buddy has got a modified exhaust ticket for it, no biggie though. For me, they saw the exhaust when I was pulled over for somthing else and that I guess tipped them to ask about my car and what I've done to it. I remember I bought I silencer for mine for like $30

Well it actually depends on the motor you have, if your running a cat or not, if its a real catback or straight pipe with a muffler only. KA's are loud and raspy, while the SR and RB both have a clean deep sound. I recommend that you paint it bbq flat black for less shiny attension to the cops.

Dude you dont live in socal where there are cops itchng to write you up for a referee ticket. If its not CARB approved and a certain DB level then your getting pulled over. Which is retarted cause Harley Davidsons are louder than sh!t and they dont get messed with like tuner cars do.

Dude a lot of these guys live in California. It's balls to the wall strict there, cops will get on these guys for anything, like loud exhaust, bov, FMIC, anything and if they find a aftermarket turbo there shit gets taken. It's not like that in a lot of other states. Like here in Illinois for instance, if your car is a 95 or under i can do whatever i want with the motor, shit i can but a big block in my 240 and it doesn't make a difference cuz i don't have to pass smog. Shit as long as i got vaild registraion, insurance and turn signals and head lights im good to go. Cop will never ask me to pop my hood like they ask these guys. Consider yourself lucky.

I haven't lived in CA for a few years now, but when I do go back, it seems that the street racing scene has died down a bit compared to the 90's and early 2000's. Therefore the cops should be a bit more laxed now than they were a few years ago. Just remember, the more headlines street racing gets, the more cops are going to pull over modified cars.

they are actually more strict since they dont want the scene to come back, the part of cali i live in, i see less and less modified imports due to the amount of hassle and harassment of police i assume, i was forced to buy another DD due to the amount of hassle i got, the way i wanted my car was impossible for these streets,if i cant have my car slammed and kitted out with pipes blasting.BOV screamin i dont wanna drive it at all. everywhere i went i was stopped. so bottom line is, depending on where you live, you may or may not be bothered by the authorities

I also run a "N1-style" muffler, my Aspec Long Tip, on a <93db exhaust.

The "shiney" nature attracts cops, but once they tail me and see that 1) my plate is clean, 2) my reg is current, and 3) my exhaust is quiet, I get passed up with just a glance.

I agree, it's a 8/10 on the gimme-a-ticket-o-meter.

"Cop friendly" would be the Apexi World Sport Noir I have on my S13 - quiet, black, and stock-looking.

Well, there's the thing right there
if you don't drive like you think you're Takumi
the cops generally tend to leave you alone

I've daily an SR hatch with a Blitz Nurspec for a few years
and never had a problem.
Like Jordan said, was tailed a few times while they checked my record

Just put on an RSR Exmag on the S14 and

I'd have to agree. I call San Jose, Stockton and the Sacramento area home, and the car scene has been nearly killed off by the local authorities. I have lots of friends and family members who did have to go out and buy another car for dd. I still think the cops are a bit more lenient now than say 2002. N1's are going to bring attention, but cops aren't out specifically to nail imports these days as they were a few years back.

01-04-2009, 06:31 PM
LOL, you asked the wrong question...

240's are not cop friendly. They really dont care about the exhaust, just the teen behind the wheel of a car he thinks is(and prob. is) faster than his cop car.

Drive slow around cops and you should be fine, or make sure your car is all one color and not .6cm off the ground.

honestly, Most guys I know are running stock exhaust and just swap em out at the track.
Aftermarket exhaust like N1 and grapefruit shooters are out.

But hey, put that ratty N1 on there, lol.

Cops WILL pull you over for exhaust. It's just a matter of when.

I've been harassed over my oem exhaust.

Noise has little to do with it.

If they see anything that looks aside from stock, they will pull you over.

If they hear anything related to exhaust, they will pull you over.

And it depends on the city too. when I lived in Burbank, I got pulled over every 2 weeks, got modified tickets with STOCK exhaust.
Moved into Hollywood, havent got pulled over once, even had my front aero and bumper support off for a couple days.

I built/drive a supercharged c5 z06 with my pops, and it's got headers and the Ti z06 exhaust - pretty loud, and don't even get second looks from cops.

The attention difference would be like redlining 1st gear in a 35mph zone in the vette = driving the speed limit bogging in 4th in my S14.

Have clean paint, stock body/aero, and a valid registration and insurance and it will help A LOT!

Multi colored body panels are not your friends.

You're just retarded for asking a stupid question like that.

He's also 18, a noob, and doesn't have 3024+ posts, but thanks for reminding him why he lacks intelligence stand in moderator.

1 Ticket so far from my n1, 100% sure it won't be my last. I reccomend you flat black it and if not, just avoid washing it.
