well this all comes down to matter of opinion. I owned equal length, and now have an unequal length tomei manifold.
Personally, in my opinion...tomei is one of the best, I noticed a much better powerband over the equal length.
Megans are.....ok. its a 50/50 shot on weather its going to crack or not....I ran one for a few years with no problem. Full race manifolds are awesome... $$$ though, but well worth it. JIC, silkroad, peak, etc.... they are all good manifolds and I think they can all be grouped together like this.
As far as difficulty, it all comes down to the manifold design. My megan sucked getting it in and out just because the 3rd and 4th runners always hit the brake lines, so you'd have to wiggle it in there somehow (using stock oil/water lines)
I would suggest though getting taka stainless water/oil lines. Makes install super easy, he just lowered his price to around 110 bucks (used to be 160). You'll thank me later if you decide to do this.

I've heard great things from tomei and from friends who have it. I needed a quick replacement and got one from ebay and it held on over the last 2 years. But i agree...get some aftermarket oil and water lines...makes things so much easier. As far as ease getting the new mani in....takes patient hands sometimes. I take off the water neck to make things easier...but then again i don't have the tomei. Good luck!

I installed a tomei for a friend, and then after driving it, realized I wanted one. lol.
they come with all the hardware and oem gaskets (even a 7 layer metal one, they usually run for 50 bucks alone) along with heat wrap and a 1 year guarantee. They usually don't have any issues with cracking or anything like that, real quality.

Match your manifold with your setup. A tubular manifold will actually hurt you more than help if your not making 300 plus hp. Keep this in mind when your making your choice. Just curious, what turbo are you going to be running?
Full race is fully engineered. Cant go wrong, way over built and roboticly tig welded. Full race if your ballin.
Tomie is ballin on a budget.
Do research on what works best with the turbo set up you are going with. If your gunna run the stock turbo...........keep the stock manifold.

Keep the stock manifold then. Extrude hone it and ceramic coat it if you have to mod it.
There are better places to spend your money at that level.
id stick wit the stock manifold, if you want more flow/responce out of it then extrudehone it.

^^like stated above....deff stick with the stocker. a buddy of mine has a s15 t28 with a stock manifold. thing has rediculous response...he also makes it in the mid to high 11's with his set up. i love the exhaust note with the stock manifold with a full 3" exhaust. sounds so deep.

I know a few people that ran bottom mounted tomeis...
Just don't heat wrap it and you should be fine (esp on a daily car)... otherwise expect some cracks.

my buddy is is running stock manifolds on both of his car
1. 400whp 2.0L SR
2. 500+hp 2.2 stocker SR
he told use that he much prefers stock manifold on any set up that is small to mid size bottom mount set up.
once i upgrade my turbo next season i wanna swap to TZ518 w/ Tomei manifold
my megan has been good but it is a bitch to tighten and untighten the nuts on it...(i've be very unlucky with the whole turbo falling off the manifold/ blowing turbo delimas )

Stick with Stock Manifold, i'm putting out ~330whp with it. Used to own a Tomei manifold, until it cracked on the dyno; so don't even start with me regarding tube manifolds, ever checked the (W.T) wall thickness on that shit!? If I were to go top mount i'd source out a Cast iron manifold, not a big fan of the thin SUS crap. I'm a process piping designer so it will take a lot to prove me wrong. There's a guy on here by name of CodyACE, he's using the stock manifold but extrued/honed and putting out 400whp.

This is the best way right here.
But if OP HAS to spend money I'd suggest the Tomei Expreme manifold.
If op is planning on going to a bigger turbo then I suggest one from Full Race.

If you rock a tomei on your car don't put exhaust wrap on it, especially if you're not running a vented hood or it's a daily driver. If it's a track car then cool, but track/daily... it will crack wrapped on daily duty without proper venting of the engine bay.

Why would Tomei sell heat wrap with there manifold if heat wrap always cracks it? I thought if it was wraped tight enough it would not crack.

best turbo manifold to date would be my alamantium flanged, 1/4 inch thick titanium piping, eual length turbo manifold wieghts less than a pound and stronger than any manifold in existance

Peak boost is really good quality, we use them on nearly every built SR we work on.
I would never run the stock turbo manifold with a significantly larger turbo.
If you are keeping to the remotely stock size - even a 2871R you can get away with the Stock, Megan, Tomei manifolds - otherwise put that snail on the top and open WG dump to scare all the kiddies on the sidewalk.

Why would Tomei sell heat wrap with there manifold if heat wrap always cracks it? I thought if it was wraped tight enough it would not crack.
Honestly, their parts are suppose to be used for, "off road" purposes. So that's why they include it.
The reason it increases the chance of cracking is due to the wrap holding moisture.
And anyone who stayed awake during class would know that rapid cooling of something hot can cause cracking.
It isn't a guarantee that the manifold will crack, but the chances are increased.
If you want to wrap the manifold then go for it. If not, whatever.
But the op should just extrude and hone the stock manifold then ceramic coat it.
That's the best way IMO. I was happy with that setup.

If you do decide to get anything ceramic coated. SWAINTECH. Any other coating is basically just high temp paint that doesnt do shit.
I'm going to have to go ahead & disagree with you on that... Been using Jet-Hot ceramic coatings on several different setups on several different cars over the past 9 years. Works awesome. Plus you get a discount if you're a previous customer. I never had a Jet-Hot coated manifold crack, not even my first SS Autochrome. The biggest reason manifolds crack is improper support of the exhaust system. If you have any broken or unattached hangers, the added stress put on the manifold will lead to cracking.
Heat wrap causes manifolds to crack over time, not from trapped moisture, but from insulating the manifold and holding the heat in, thereby amplifying the effect. There's been extensive testing by Jet-Hot & other companies which demonstrate this. An uncoated manifold heated to 1200F for 12 hours lost roughly 8% of it's mass, where a heat wrapped manifold lost 25%.
Only cost me $120 to Jet-Hot my last SR top mount manifold. I'll keep using it!
