How do you remove the headliner of a 89 240sx coupe? anyone done it? i have no clue as to where to start.

sure, ill spoon feed you.
its really not hard, just dig into it man, shit.
take off the interior panels that cover near the rear seats and A pillar, then take out the interior lights on the roof, then the mirror, all of those are attached with phillip screws
then just pull it down, there are clips all around the sides of the headliner.

Naturally, its easier said than done. The clips are extremely brittle, so try to pull the headliner off without bending it more than you have to. Once you break a couple in a row, it'll start to sag.

my interior is already sagging and torn up the reason for the removal is i plan to have it reupholstered, thanks for the help, i just wanted to make sure i don't break anything when i remove it

After all the trim panels and rearview mirror has been removed, simply undo the clips and pull down.
Sometimes the clips will break so don't be surprised.
Also coupes and fastbacks headliners are different so don't try to mix and match.
Obviously sunroof and nonsunroofs won't swap as well.
