Honestly with a pair of koni yellows a gen 4 taurus handles and grips really well. The only down-point is it's automatic. This is a very very poor man's attempt to compete with a bmw m5. Most new cars are ultra mega heavy but have lots of technology in them. The interior is utter junk.

monkeys who make as much as twice as much as their foreign counterparts. overpaid monkeys, EEK!
I have seen the motor during testing last year, very impressed with the motor design, its like jacking one from the japs.
what has japan been doing for over 25 years?
turbocharging small displacement motors to make good power at low cost and better fuel economy.

ford execs are quoted as saying that their liquid assets are enough to get them through this tough time without the bailout. dont know if that has changed, but it is basically GM and Chrysler who need it.

Ford was the one that needed money the least. i think they asked for a line of credit instead of a loan. they sold off most of thier Mazda shares to stay ahead too.

So many biased and ignorant individual in here. Why the hate? Go to Taurus club forums, you'll see their little mod community is getting up there. It's how people used to mock civics yet there are some monstrous civics out there. And the old sho was a descent weekend track car/family car weekdays.

this is true... they did not take any of the 17.4 billion... they have still been pissing and moaning though. Ford seems to have been at the front of the "righting our own ship" movement with their CEO being the first to give up salary and what not.
My comment was an attempt at irony and sarcasm...

Doesn't look too promising when all you can see is a cheap looking dash, a slush-box, and little else.
I'll wait till it proves itself, but it seems VERY unlikely this is going to be in the same league as your typical sti/evo.

They came out with the Fusion and the FiveHundred to replace the 2 buying area's. Fusion sold well to the Escort crowd. FiveHundred was to much of a boat and none sold. So they came out with a smaller version and called it the Taurus.

Interesting.
If Ford plays their cards right this could become a success.
But knowing the Domestics' marketing strategy they'll over promise and under deliver, wedging this model in a non competitive line up.
I guess we'll see.

see you guys bitch that the US doesnt make cool cars anymore. Yet you all rag on this as a stupid, gay, ignorant car, why does ford make this blah blah blah
they are making the car all of you bitch FOR
peroformance oriented cars. Isnt that what everyone was saying US needed to make to compete with foreign makers? Lower priced performance cars? It doesnt get much cheaper than a taurus, and for all you know(since no pictures have been posted) this thing could be bad ass.
who cares if its an auto? it might have some crazy tech like the rev matching paddle optino for hte 270Z. im not a ford fan, but i can appreciate them designing a car that meets what current 20 and 30somethings want in teh market. Power, but carry a family. Not everyoe wants a loud as subaru or mitsu, some people just want the power out of the box.

That's why I said so much hate and ignorance in this thread. I have a gen 4 Taurus daily with koni yellows. Check SHOSource.com (http://www.shosource.com) they offer tons of upgrades. It grips and handles like a mofo. Feels like a 3 or 5 series Bmw and then some. Seriously. They also have mustang cobra brake upgrades, so many other things. 18" rims. You name it. The car is pretty spiffy given a few upgrades.

Exactly.
Well built auto boxes will always perform better than manual versions of the same car, unless you're like Mario Andretti or something, then it really doesn't matter.
Not to mention the auto boxes of today have more aggressive gear ratios and more gears than their manual counter parts, and the performance oriented auto boxes can shift faster than most people can shift with a manual box and a short shifter.
I'm just gonna stop there, but basically, auto boxes of today aren't all POS like the auto boxes of yester years, so I don't see why people still sit here and complain about auto boxes.

The Mazdaspeed 6 was a pretty good car, and Ford owns Mazda still, right?
There is potential here, no need to rule the car or a manual out so early.

Ford owned 33% of Mazda, they just sold off 20%. so they own 13% of Mazda but still own a controling share of the company

It looks cool.
I'd highly doubt that it'll be a straight up automatic.
It's probably gonna have paddle shifters or some other electronic shifting. Regardless, it should be pretty cool - I don't see what all the hate is about anyway.
Most Subaru's, Toyota's, Nissan's and Mazda's in the US market are built in the US. Better yet, a lot of cars are now being designed as collaborations between foreign design teams and American teams.
Nothing in the world comes from anyone country so stop bashing American cars.

I just wish American car companies would build cars that don't have parts fall off in 2-3 years. Working at a parts store and having people come in for ball joints, wheel bearings, tie rods, etc, for their 2006 models with <50000 miles puts you off of buying American.
They seem to be making much better engines (Ecotecs, LSX, etc) and are finally starting to get rid of solid rear axles in their sports cars, but the build quality and attention to detail just doesn't seem to be there.
For instance, why do we sell at least 2 driver side door handles for Chevy Blazers per week? Why do we have to stock stupid interior parts for Taurus' and Luminas and Grand Prix's? They should be able to build cars that don't fall apart. I've owned nothing but Japanese cars and I've never had these types of problems.
I like where things are headed, but it still doesn't seem like American car companies fully understand what their problems are. Putting a bigger motor or a supercharger in doesn't fix every problem. A Vette shouldn't have an interior that feels just as cheap as a Grand Am of 10 years ago except with leather seats.

This is so true. I have a 2004 F-150 and have invested approx. $12,000 in repairs since 2004.
They seem to be making much better engines (Ecotecs, LSX, etc) and are finally starting to get rid of solid rear axles in their sports cars, but the build quality and attention to detail just doesn't seem to be there.

They do this for one specific reason. To make money. Ever car manufacturer is capable of building a long lasting car. But, then how would they make their money?

A friend mechanic of mine told me that the yamaha v6 (for the most part) was apparently two motor bikes together or something. He said they once revved it to 10,000rpm with stock internals with ECU mods (i call bs, but he said it).

last ford I drove with a six speed automatic shifted about 65 times on a two mile run to the quickie mart. it's annoying as hell.. you give it any throttle and after it's ratcheted its way into 6th.. it drops to 5th and then 4th and then back to 5th and then back to 6th.. look I just passed a car.. 4 gear changes..
as to the comment of this is exactly what we've been asking for... no it's not.. well maybe we should have been more specific.. we'd like 300ish Hp turbo car that weighed 3200lbs and was awd. there. giving the public a 4000lb awd sedan that's turbo is just missing the point.. we'd like a wrx that can seat 4 grown adults comfortably but doesn't look like a BS old sedan and carry the stigma of taurus. Also since a taurus currently starts at 25k.. if this car is 33k we'll look elsewhere. and your lincolns don't disguise their underpinnings well enough.. I can see a VIP taurus with a 10k price hike
personally I see absolutely no reason why manufacturers keep stuffing on the weight. 3400lb cars... 3600lb cars.. 4000lb cars.. there should be no reason what so ever that a m3 should weigh 3800lbs. none.
ford I realized that the name of the car was to attract old customers back into the show room but soon you'll realize that if you don't give new customers a positive experience with your cars then your going to try and get a 30 something guy a first time look at your brand when he already has a preference to something he's owned.. and your brand just isn't that strong.. it's got a rep for shitty cars that break.. sure your on a come back.. sure it's a way forward.. but that first car is a strong connection with the consumer espically if it's a POS and breaks down all the time.. and you should try your best to make that "first car" a ford. a focus and a fusion just arn't guy cars. they're like leftover meatloaf.. sure it's food.. but there are certainly more appetizing things to eat in the cubbard.. btw. the little clock in the middle on the taurus doesn't make it an infinity. nice try though.
