240sx cams and ka24e truck cams ARE different. So I'm going to have to send in the cam to have it worked on, if I wanted a better cam. Unless anyone knows of a place that sells truck cams.

I don't know yet. I'm going to have to email him back with estimates. A local shop (Flagstaff Engine and Machine) has done a lot of racing engines, and I've been taking flywheels to them. They're really good, so I think I might be able to get the cam done at their place.
Then again, if pdm can do it cheap, I'll send it to them. I have to wait until summer anyway, unless I get a good Christmas present, which is doubtful. Parents don't like me spending money on the truck. I still am not sure if the computer would screw up if I had the cam done. I'll have to ask that in the email regarding prices. I'd sure as shit like to, though.

I just sent another email to Don Nimi, so we'll see what he says. Like always, I'll let y'all know.

Okay, I'm pissing my pants! Only 150 bucks for a regrind! Above 3000 rpm should improve dramatically. Turnaround time is 2 days to a week, depending on business. Low end loss is probably inconsequential. HELLLL YEAH! I'm gonna do it! In case you couldn't tell, I'm happy.

Is don giving you that price?
Have any of you guys had a regind on your dohc? Are there any mods you would recomend before hand (excluding exhaust, intake, wires etc)?

Yep, that's what he quoted me to regrind my truck ka cam.

I think it's pretty standard.

i haven't gotten paid in 3 weeks and i'm going to get paid all at once, tuesday. $300 of it is going to the stage two cam! i get $150 back for the core. i've been waiting for this.
personally i'd get the other stuff before the cams, to make sure i could get all the air in, and all the exhaust out as much as possible. i have the intake, cat, exhaust, and i'm buying a header after this, then they're both going in at the same time.

Yeah, ditto on the other stuff. The engine has to breathe for the cam to really help. I've already done intake, exhaust on the car, as well as the electric fan. With all that, I should get 10 hp out of the cam. Possibly more, possibly less. When I get it installed, I'll let y'all know.

Okay,
But I already have a K&N cone intake, flowmaster exhaust, nology hotwires, and plugs. I'm not going to install headers, b/c I am saving for a turbo kit/clutch/gauge pod.
But with all that considered, you think about 10hp on top of the current mods?
I'm busting out $300 for the cam's + $300 for the core charge, and $130 for the shims. It adds up.

I'd say it's worth it, but then again, I go nuts trying to find every little bit of horsepower as cheap as I can afford. I'm a college student, so most of the time, it's a choice between beer, bullets, or better mods.
Do it! You know you want to. Besides, you should get a lot better pull out of the upper RPM. If not, sell the new cams and go back to the originals. Another thing is you can say, "Yeah, I put in a new cam in my ka." And the girls will flock to you like bees to flowers. Fooling with engine internals always impresses the babes. If s13grl sees this, she'll probably reaffirm. Hehe.

First of all I'm a college student too, so I know all about having no funds for these projects.
Secondly you have your expenses in this order: 1 beer (understandable), 2 bullets (???), and 3 better mods.
What's up with the bullets, Youz guna shoot up billybob? JK
And thirdly I don't need to do anthing for S13Grl to stand up and take notice of me. It's a given.

Yeah, I should rearrange my priorities. Mods, beer, bullets. Hey, c'mon, I'm from Idaho. Everyone I know has an arsenal in their basements. Actually, I go shooting a lot, out at the cinder pits. Just .22. Although one of my work buddies has an ak and an sks. (Chinese copy of the ak) IT's fun as ####. Loud, too.
And Matic, 'bout that sr20det, yeah, I would like to do that. The whole funds thing. I think when I get out of NAU, I'm going to have about 7 Nissan trucks, each with different nissan engines, and all souped up. That way, I can drive a different kick ass truck every day of the week.
Course, when I get out, I'm starting a car collection. Gonna have a lot of Nissans, maybe some RX-7s. The only thing I'm gonna need to do is rent a wharehouse for my living space. That way, I can sleep next to my babies.
