Some 97's and all 98's are hard to determine the options on them cause it was, "just bolt the parts we have left over on them."

Rear Sway, Fogs and the White cluster are good clues. But almost anything can be added to make it look like an SE.

What is the Model #? It's under the VIN on the Build plate on the firewall. Only way you can tell it's a SE/LE or a Base chassis 100%.

ok cool. i wrote down the vin but what will the model number say that determines wether its a se or base?

The VIN is basically worthless for telling anything about what's on the car. Model # has the emissions, transmission, trim, ect info in it.

you can try using Carfax report with the VIN# and it should tell you what model your car is....

No, it won't. There is no trim information in the VIN. S14's all comeback LE/SE on carfax.

I don't see why we continue to have these stupid, pointless threads. You'd think after all this time someone would have realized the differences.

If it does not have:

Rear spoiler
white face gauges
Fog lights
5lug hubs with 5 spoke 16" alloy wheels

Than it is NOT an SE. Yes, all those items can be added, so if has some of them, but not all, it is NOT an SE. Sunroof is an option on SEs, not standard.

We can also go the other route, if it does not have:

Power locks
Cruise control
Air conditioning
AM/FM cassette with 4 speakers

Than it's not an SE, as these were standard on the SE, optional on base models. They can all be added to a base model, but unless you have the other above items it's still not an SE.

Carfax reports all models as being SE trim, another reason why Carfax is worthless.

You sir probably got ripped off and someone badged it as an SE because my mom's kouki 97 has no ac, cruise control, 4 lug or any of that fancy stuff and its a base.

Nope. Depends on who it was that originally typed it up. Just like Carfax reports, it probably reads SE because it was assumed to be or just guessed at when it was first sold. After it's transferred a dozen times there's no way to verify who made the mistake.
I owned a 1980 Datsun 210 for four years that was registered as a 1979 WPLB310. I also learned they made a model change midyear, resulting in the '80.5, ordering parts for it was always a blast.

yes it does when you get hit from behind. an se will be worth mroe than a base model and you will get more money in return.
