It ain't happening folks!

The proposed May 2 showdown between Manny Pacquiao and junior welterweight champ Ricky Hatton is off, according to representatives for both fighters.

Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, who represents Hatton, told ESPN.com on Wednesday that he's canceled next week's planned media tour and will begin negotiating with other potential opponents immediately. Bob Arum of Top Rank, who promotes Pacquiao, confirmed that the fight is off.

"The fight is off and I instructed [tour manager] Kelly Swanson to cancel the tour," said Schaefer, clearly upset. "It's off and we are now pursuing our other options. That's it. The Hattons called me and asked again if we had a signed deal from Pacquiao and when I said we didn't, they said they won't sit around anymore. They would like me to explore three fights they are interested in."

As soon as Pacquiao finished off Oscar De La Hoya for an overwhelming TKO victory on Dec. 6, attention turned to the pound-for-pound king's next mega fight, a proposed May 2 showdown against Hatton.

Arum and Schaefer quickly wrapped up negotiations and Hatton agreed to a 50-50 split of the revenue, even though he generates substantially more money in British television rights than Pacquiao could ever hope to generate in the poorer Philippines.

Arum and Schaefer shopped the fight to the big Las Vegas casinos. They struck a deal with the MGM Grand and were in talks with HBO and Showtime about a pay-per-view deal.

But all along, there was trouble. Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) refused to back off his demand for a bigger share of the pie. For weeks, they've gone back and Hatton eventually agreed to give Pacquiao a few more points. However, Pacquiao still had not signed by a Wednesday deadline and Hatton and his father, Ray Hatton, instructed Schaefer to pull the plug on the fight.

"Manny decided not to sign," Arum said. "He was unhappy with the terms. So I contacted Schaefer and I told him the situation and he acted accordingly, which means the fight is off. The suits can posture but it's the fighters who have to go in the ring and fight. But I am not thrilled right now."

after watching the Pacquiao Hatton 24/7 series on hbo, i kind of grew to start liking hatton, he seemed like a nice guy. sucks to see him fall so early.. Maybe he shouldnt have hired Mayweather as his trainer. But it seems that Hatton's fighting style went back to his old routine and he didnt listen to his trainer or the new techniques they been working on, he was more of an aggressive attacking fighter instead of having defense so thats how Pacquiao got him since his team had been studying Hattons old fights and figured out what tactics he would do , so they worked on this new hook which took him out.

as if he cant get better or something? if you have been following his career at all its so easy to see his skills have improved so much. not only that, he listens to his trainer and actually keeps to game plans. every fight its just another weapon he learned and can take into his next fight. and if the plan doesnt work he has so much to fall back on and he can adjust to. i dont see him having any trouble with Marquez or Mayweather. you can analyze what you see from your view of the fight, but you cant accurately state what the pacman sees. you can watch in slow motion and make out what hes thinking, seeing, or plan on executing, just remember that when your the one thats actually fighting, everything happens faster than it is. give the pacman more credit than your actually giving him because to knock out the opponent 3 times in two rounds, thats astonishing.

If thats the case then how come it took PBF 10 rounds to finally land a devasting blow to Hatton. I know that PBF and Pacman has different fighting styles, but dont take anything away from what he has accomplished... the fight between PBF and Pacman will be one for the histories and its going to happen. They're both fast as lightning, have good defense, but i think Pacman has more power than PBF and that will be the deciding factor.


If you watch closely throughout the fight, majority of the clean shots that Pacman landed with his right and left hooks buckled Hatton. Even watch the body shot that he landed on Hatton before he knocked him out, you can definitely see that it stung Hatton.

I think that the fight with Cotto wont happen. I think they are just using that as a leverage to let PBF know that he is not the only one that Pacman can fight.

im assuming most of you watched the fight... hatton is a fool and wasnt prepared from the get go (they also talked about how mayweather sr. and hatton were having training problems). hatton is a hard nosed bruiser and can take punishment but he just walked into the fight with his hands down and no technique. manny shut him down instantly!

I would like to think that this event was not rigged just like the last one against delahoya. Just because Hatton didn't look like what he did against other fighters doesn't mean that its rigged. Pacman did make some fighters look like they werent in shape, like delahoya, diaz, morrales III, and Hatton.. he never ceases to amaze me with his talent.

I guess you didnt read the whole sentence.. What i said was a fast fighter and moves forward... PBF is a defense/counterpuncher.. he lets them come to him... PBF is also lightning fast just like Pac..

people were saying that Hatton's style was going to be hard for Pac, but i guess it was easier just like when they said it was going to be hard for PBF and he handled it.

Both PBF and Pac have their own unique styles which suits them well.. Pac, fast, lethal punches with an bove average defense against PBF, fast, less powerful punches, but with great defense.. this will be a fight that cant be missed.. It wont be a disappointment match like the Hatton fight which ended to early.

BUT in sports debates people sometimes overlook/blind to some of the facts because of their attachment to one of the sides.

actually IMO 12 weeks is too long of training to prepare for a fight... your body will plateau or youll reach your peak too early than start to decline! this extra time doesnt equate into anything pertinant as far as who had better training or or who is more prepared... as i stated before all boxers(or any pro athlete) never stops working out/training just not at the same intensity, they are always in shape though. the reason people dont and cant train year round for years at a time at that high of intensity is because your body... it just cant take it and it actually starts to decline OR youll get injured! thats why there are sports seasons, breaks, etc.

8 or 12 weeks of training matters a whole lot less than whats put into the training... the intensity, type, and focus of the training means WAY more. as stated before hatton expressed issues with training with mayweather sr because of multiple problems. this has ALOT to do with being prepared fully for a fight since this is whats getting you ready for the said fight.

even if hatton was on his "A" game i dont think he could stand toe to toe with manny for 12 rounds and be the victor. manny is a force to be reckoned with and he proves it time and time again. i dont think his last few opponents were good matches for contending with his style though to make it an all out brawl though. manny is such an exciting fighter and i love watching him in later rounds where its less about technique or foot work and more about HEARTTTTT! i dont think there are very many boxers with nearly the heart of manny. i almost feel sypathetic for the fact that he has to carry all the hopes and dreams(figuratively speaking) of all filipino's on his chest for each fight because he knows how much they look up to him... thats ALOT OF WEIGHT TO BARE!!!
