My 2000 Civic was broken into a few years back, right before Xmas too. :(
Like said above, clear plastic bags and clear tape.

just call some mobile window repair guy come to replace it, i think it is about $150?
your best way is install an alarm system with shock sensor to prevent this happen again, also , dont leave anything looks might be valuable in the car, such as bags, ipod...etc

there was nothing in the car and it's parked in a (gated) garage. alarm wouldn't make a difference. crackheads just smash and grab what they can around here. it's not like i can run down guns blazing on whoever is stealing stuff either.
i used plastic dealer floormats to cover the window temporarily, looks pretty spiffy

Shock sensors are the gayest fucking things on the planet. A glass break sensor would be far more appropriate.

Duct tape.
just like me and S13SilviaGirl said CLEAR TAPE or masking tape(painters or the green automobile one...) dont use duct tape, leave it in the sun a few hours and your gonna hate yourself when it's time to remove it, it happened in my old corolla... never could really get ALL the adhesive off...

I always thought a shock sensor will trigger alarm if the glass breaks or sense any other impact while your car is parked? do they have individual sensor for each window like a house?
I saw a police presentation that glass breaker will tend to pick cars that does not have shock sensor (they will hit the glass to see if the warning goes off), if it does beep because sensing of vibration, the thief will more likely pick other cars instead of trying their luck.
but for the OP, if you think alarm will not help and crack head would want to go in anyway, than i guess your best option is moving out there.
