so ive been wanting to buy a s14 with sr20 but since in CA its illegal
why dont they make ka24de valve covers for the sr20?

... and just because you got a different valve cover doesn't mean it will be passed off as a ka 24... no you have to shove socks in the muffler to quite the nose and to pass the emissions test...

I think it could work the other way.
A SR 'mask' that makes a KA look like an SR. I don't think that would help california people so much.

But the SR valve cover is soooo large. That is why its impossible.

hollow out a ka motor and shove the sr in there so the whole thing looks stock.

it doesnt matter what your valve cover looks like i doubt a cop is gonna say:

"Oh he almost fooled me! That valve cover threw me off but then i looked at the pulleys and im almost certain its an sr."

its not the engine block itself that cops can tell its illegal. its the fact that ka Valve cover is un-painted, and sr is red or black. its the fact most people run front mounts and the the intercooler pipes are crome/silver. a BOV is sitting right on top of a hot pipe connected to a TURBO and 90% of the time they have an aftermarket air filter. the only way to make an sr look legal is if you have a 100% stock looking sr with maybe a blacktop valve cover. oem air filter box for sure. maybe paint the itnercooler and intercooler piping.

Your not going to trick anyone that knows anything about cars into thinking a motor is another by modding a valve cover to fit another motor

Dont they put your cars on the emissions machine there? If so a valve cover wont help you at all. Sniff test will kill you everytime.

If you are wanting to break the law and run a SR in a state where its not legal - then just find someone that can be paid to pass your car!

Would be alot cheaper then trying to mod a valve cover to fit another motor and still failing!

no you see it's kinda simple. I have a SR24 and it fits great probably works for SR20.
What you have to buy is the valve cover bolts from a Skyline ALSI-2 with the GA30 engine, next you have to modify the spark plugs by removing the KA24DE ignitior towards the rear of the end of the engine where it's hidden, now hook up the red wire to your spark plug plugs n plug them in a series connection making sure to solder everything together. You have to install also the adementium made camshaft PPCB plate to ensure proper flow from valve cover to cylinder head or else you might blow the cover off if not connected.
Well that's my info on how to fit the KA24 valve cover on a SR24

Are you serious? You think that just because an engine is from Japan or has a turbo, it'll be a gross polluter? You can make an SR20DET (or any engine for that matter) run clean enough to pass smog with proper maintenance and tuning.

Seriously though I thought it was VERY difficult even with proper maintenance to get a motor like a SR to pass smog etc in California, other states are less strict

i also live in cali. and i know ALOT of cops and ALOT of cops know me. this thread is pointless. no offense. but cops around here (most of them) dont know sh*t about motors. it kinda makes me angry when they ask me to pop my hood because then i have to get out and exlpaing to them how an engine works and what everything is. my point is.... alot of cops dont know the difference between a sr or a ka. so.. im preeeety sure they wont be paying attention to the color of the valve cover. i think theyll be looking at your exhaust drivin intake that sticks out like a sore thumb ;)
