like the thread title says "trunk key, can no longer open the trunk lock!"

anyone have any ideas on why this may be? it worked fine, then when i closed it and decided i wanted to open it again. i put the key in and it just doesnt work anymore.

i'm using the ignition starting key....

and no i do not have an trunk release cable.

this is for an s14 as well.

ahhh, i really need to get some shit out my trunk help please.

thanks!

can you pull the seats down from inside of the car? should be a way to pop your trunk from there. May need to take the lock to a locksmith to get it re-cut.

put some lock lube / oil or wd40 in where u put the key

also *i think* s14's have different keys for trunk and doors

but if you were able to open it before go with step one

Incorrect.

The cylinder may be just worn or jammed, you can open inside through the trunk opening using a long rod or bar to pull the latch, then verify the cylinder operation with the trunk open. There's another thread with details on this about a month old.

yeah.... that lever is nearly impossible to reach from the inside of the car. and not to mention hard to get to, since that lever thing is right next to the lock cylinder itself.

pb blaster and zilvia to the rescue though. hehe

just sprayed some pb blaster into the lock cylinder and put my key in to turn it a few times to get it lubricated i guess and it works again.

guys with s14s in the rain in california you may wanna spray some pb blaster into your trunk locks just to keep them lubricated and rust free.

i saw a hint of little rust on it, but pb blaster fixed that one!

thanks again for the help. really appreciate it this one.

NO! Spray graphite in the lock. WD40 is bad for locks.

yea, i've been having the same problem...my trunk release doesn't work at all. i keep flipping the switch, hear the noise, but the trunk doesn't release. and the trunk doesn't close all the way easily now. i have to actually press down on the trunk to close it instead of just letting it close by itself...any info on how to fix the release switch? thanks

if it is clogged you have to clean it first.
i would spray some wd40 in there to make it work again.

after that i would spray in some brake cleaner to remove the wd40.

last step spray in some graphite or some grease on graphite basis.

did this to my locks in summer and they work perfectly.

WD40 is bad for locks.

WD40 is bad period. Use it when you have to, but like it was said, always clean that shit off with some brake cleaner and use something proper to keep whatever you are working on lubricated. WD40 will free up most frozen bolts and assemblies, but it quickly attracts dirt.
