slammed car???

so, i have a 1992 mr2 but i spend alot of time reading on here, and now i decided to join because i want to ask some questions n mr2 guys dont like slammed cars with low offset wheels..

i want to lower my car as cheap as possible until i can afford some coilovers.

my friend recommended cutting springs or heating them up till it gets low enough. or taking some ebay coil sleeves and putting them on the car.

which is recommended or not? i still would like a somewhat stiff ride but ok for streets as i daily drive..

also, i have some starion 16x8 w/ -10 offset wheels that i want on the back of my car but stick past the fender about 50 mm so how to get some serious negative camber in the rear?

why not wait a little save up and get some basic coilovers instead of putting crappy suspension on your car? at least thats what i would do. i dont want $hit ass ebay parts on my car.

Wow... I swear I've heard every idea you just mentioned as a joke about idiots who mod their cars.

None of those ideas are good. Only an idiot would think that they are. Tell your friend to go jump off a bridge- I bet he'll do it.

Save your money for when you can afford parts that are designed to do what you want. Don't do some ghetto job unless you feel like damaging your car.

Cutting the springs usually goes two ways

1. Everything works out good and ride is actually decent

2. It feels and sounds like shit, springs move and clunk when turning the wheel and whatnot

I'd say save up and get some coilovers, basic ones don't usually run too much

+1.... only parts from my car that were from ebay are my exhaust, intake, and intercooler. Suspension parts eeeehhhhhh:naw:...i used my $600 from my refund check and got some basic coilovers

There's no such thing as "cheap" when it comes to your car...or just about any car.

Your friend is an idiot. Stick to stock height until you can afford a real set of coilovers.

If it sticks out 50mm, rolling, pulling, and camber won't help you. No matter what you do, it'll look like ass.

Widebody is your only choice to run that sized wheel. Why not run something more MR2 friendly? Since your offset is more on the positive side, wheels tend to run cheaper.

Again, cars and cheap don't go hand in hand.

Save up and do it right the first time.

Thanks!! i think that is kinda what i needed to hear. so crap parts then, i think i should be able to get some basic coilovers in a few months. i am redoing all the bushings and what not before i get that though.

i guess the wheels are not a must, i love the look of them and i picked up those 2 for real cheap so i thought 'why not' but yea, they might be too low offset for the car.

Yeah i agree with what everyone is saying. Its better to just do it right the first time. Ive always been against cutting, heating, or buying cheap springs. Yeah definately ditch those Starion wheels. A text book fitment on an mr2 is usually x8 F and x9 R +35 all around ( whatever size diameter you want). N thats relatively flush on the sw20. Just a good roll and you should be good to go. I believe there was a pretty decent fitment thread on Mr2oc.com a couple of months ago. I've been on the mr2 forums since about 2002ish and its definately changed. well at least the norcal portion. But yeah dude, if you ever need any info or pointers on the sw just PM me.

yea, i am trying out the slammed thing so i am asking before, my last mr2 (86) was more of an autocrosser, but i have really been liking the deep dish with lots of camber and slammed look.

mr2 drivers that i know like more of a clean look in my eyes. i dont know if that makes sense..
