Wheel opinions sorry to start a new one

I was looking at Discount Tire and found these wheels. I personally think they look pretty cool. They are 5zigen Super Six's. What do you think?

judging by the pic you posted, im guess HIGH offsets

high offsets on skinny wheels=bad bad bad

they are availible in 17x7 with an offset of 40. Thoes were the only ones I looked at I dont know if they come in diffrent heights.

i wont put my personal tastes on this one, but i would say look for something with a lower offset. a wheel like that was most likely desinged/sold it primarily FF car such as hondas and so forth. i would say keep looking, but its your car/money.

Yeah I know a guy here in town with some Rota Circuit 8s on his s14 16x7 with a +40mm offset... They sit about 5 feet inside his damn fender...it looks HORRIBLE.

DEFF look for something with a lower offset.

why do you insist on such a wide wheel? and what's the reasoning behind increasing width with diameter?

If worst came to worst, you could always get spacers to make them flare out a little.

ah no reason, its my opinion on it. 17x7s are pretty lame i think. but as i said, its my preference, not telling the guy its bible, that's all.

The wheel widths he's quoting seem to be those that would give near-vertical sidewalls with the widest tire sizes available in each diameter to fit the car... not ideal, but popular.

Increasing width with diameter is what tire sellers do too... and generally you need a wider wheel to fit the same width tire in a lower profile (i.e. a 205/60-15 fits on a 15x6, a 205/55-16 on a 16x6.5, a 205/45-17 on a 17x7)

My next wheel/tire setup will probably be a 225/50-16 on 16x7 or 16x7.5 all the way around... pending finding proper offset wheels.

So what exactly woud the "ideal" offset and back spacing be for a 17 inch wheel? Not out of anyones personal preference but actuall ideal.

I am sure that would fit well in the rear, but would there be any fitment problems in the front.. ie.. rubbing hitting my springs ect

the only rational reason to have wider wheels is to fit wider tires. with that said, i can't remember how many times i've stated that i REALLY don't think any car that isn't pushing out somewhere in the range of 250-300whp needs a tire any bigger than a 235. a 235 doesn't need a wheel any bigger than 8,'' regardless of diameter as far as i know.

you guys are aware that when you get into tires this size, that the tires weigh just as much if not more than the wheels, and have a larger effect on inertia since they are farther from the center of rotation right?

actually do know that. do care too. that's why i still have 15s for my stock KA. no reason for larger (diameter) wheels.

Let me tell a little about my car, future plans, and what I am gonna do with the car.

My car is an 89 hatch with SR20 with enough add ons to produce the 250-300whp range. I plan on upgrading the turbo and possibly stroking it next winter, or maybe putting a RB25 in it. I want to do drag with it because that is the closest kind of track I have and will be able to enjoy most often.

The wheel type I am looking for is a 17 inch wheel that I can put some fairly wide tires on for hook up reasons when draggin.

If you guys have any options for wheels like this that arent way too expensive like $2000. Please feel free to make suggestions.

yeah........i added the word "most" in there for people like you. i suspected that you were aware of the effects, but based on personal preference would make choices other than i would. that is fine. it is the people that claim to be "maximizing performance" that really bug me.
