I can't decide between getting a s13 and doing a rb20 swap and having it done by this spring or saving up and getting a 350z spring 2010. Gonna be used for drifting and weekends. The 240 has the upside of being able to tinker on it and still having a 6 for cheap or I can get a z and just do basic stuff and pay the same I would for a fully done out 240... idk?

Maybe you guys can help me weigh the benifits and downside to each. I just kinda wanna get drifting asap.

It's your car you decide...

RB20s suck IMO.
You sound like a fan boy.
If you want to start drifting, buy an s13 and start drifting.

Since you can't drift the vehicle you have now, I'm assuming you have a FWD car or a truck. Thinking that you're going to jump right into a fully built 240 or a 350z and drift awesome is stupid.

Learn on a shit platform. Use the money you were going to use on upgrading your car for track events.

You don't get good at playing basketball by buying bad ass shoes, you have to play the game.

I had a 350z I traided for my daily (yes I relize it was stupid, but when I was paying almost $5 for premium it wasn't) and I had just bought a 240 I managed to roll off the side of a hill (me and rain don't mix). I know how to drive a rwd car I just don't know what's better. I just want a 6cyl... love the tourque. See I know why a z is good but don't know if the price tag is worth it.

So an RB20 is on your to do list? For the torque?

And if you can't afford $5 a gallon for premium, you're better off not drifting until you can afford it.

rb20 = fail big time go ls1 if your going to put in that kind of money like a 350z..

Rb20 is ultra fail.

Get a real car like a 350z.

You'll like it and you'll have the satisfaction of not looking like a guy who's thrown all his money into a $700 car.

I'm with Fries - get an S13, get a diff, coilovers, and a seat, and start drifting if that's what you want to do. Sounds like you already have a DD anyway.

Or, if you really want a Z again, save for that. They supposedly drift pretty well with just a clutch and a diff, but that's a shitton of cash to drop on a car you're going to beat the shit out of.

heh.

Decide what you want to do and make a realistic budget. picking between a RB20 s13 and a 350z doesn't make sense - thats like deciding between buying a condo in the slums or buying nice house in a neighborhood.

If you really want to get into drifting, I would take the advice that a few people have mentioned: buy a cheap car to beat on, learn on, and learn to fix (cause you will break shit).

Well I was at the dealership getting my daily serviced and they had a new 08 z for sale. I hopped into it and remembered how much fun the z was. Thanks for the advice. I'm going to buy a z with 80+k on it for super cheap(8-9k) and gutt it, slap in a diff, do breather mods, and a decent suspension and call it a day. At the end of the day the z is only about 2-3k more than buying a s14, so I figured why not.

yes the z drifts very nicely... even stock, a good clutch kick and a jerk of the steering wheel and your sliding.
